New Poll - Define Love
Well, it's not February, but it's still good to think about it. This poll was suggested by ShanShan. And before you whine at me, there is no choice called "other" for a reason. Pick and choose. I also find it interesting that of all the genres (not demographics), "Romance" is the one with the most series

You can discuss this poll on our forums here:

You can submit poll ideas here:

Previous Poll Results:
Question: When do you vote on the newest poll?
Choices:
Right when I notice that there's a new one - votes: 7350 (70.1%)
After giving it a lot of thought - votes: 220 (2.1%)
A few days later - votes: 221 (2.1%)
The last moment possible - votes: 27 (0.3%)
Only when I like the question - votes: 2297 (21.9%)
I don't usually vote - votes: 373 (3.6%)
There were 10488 total votes.
The poll ended: April 9th 2010

If I had to choose one of the choices, it wouldn't be any of them (Self Contradiction).
I already know the answer to that question, but if i had to describe it, it would be closer to "Something", that's what love is it's "Something". Just like innocence. We don't know why we're drawn to it, but constantly try to define, and give it a category. Saying something poetic is Lame, Defining it Logically makes you sound stupid. So When you speak about "Love", Claim Ignorance, because we understand it, but don't grasp it's meaning. Anyone Agree?

Love is an emotion? So far that choice has the most votes. I wonder if the voters gave more than 3 seconds thought before choosing that one.

thread

» Akillarian on April 10th, 2010, 6:44pm

Yes I thought about it before I vote. All the other choices seem to be too poetic for my taste.

» SCKing88 on April 10th, 2010, 10:42pm

Love itself is poetic, what kind of nonesense are you spouting?

That said I went with desire, because that's really what it comes down to.

thread

» Akillarian on April 12th, 2010, 11:36am

Well excuse me for not wanting to wan and wax poetry about how I feel to other people to a poll.

thread

» Akillarian on April 12th, 2010, 11:38am

and incase you forgot, there are many types of love. If you only love=desire for your lovers, your life is very lacking of other types of love.

Quite an 'interesting' AND 'serious' topic - the outcome might or could reveal the average age of major voting group of the poll.

Love is NOT an emotion. Emotions are way too unstable and always changing. People get married because they 'love' each other right... if its just emotions, then that explains why there are so many divorces.

thread

» Jooles on April 12th, 2010, 3:24am

Marriage in itself is a tool used by the church. A tool that many men embraced back in the day to ensure that even they could get a woman and keep their bloodline flowing, even though they weren't among Darwin's fittest. (Makes you wonder how many of us would even exist if that didn't)

Men get married because they're dumb and affected by social conditioning. Women get married for the security and because they're affected by social conditioning.

People get divorced now because there's no longer any social stigma to it.

cynical much :/ Also, what about matriarchal societies with marriage. Societies where religion was separate from marriage?

also, lol if that's all you think marriage is. But if that's all it is for you I pray you don't marry.

thread

» Jooles on April 14th, 2010, 1:13pm

Cynical? Only if you're looking at life through the DisneyTM/Hollywood-kaleidoscope. I'm a realist. Marriage is a dumb idea. But it's all part of the female agenda, so I won't hassle you for your views. ...Do please tell me that you're female.

The first paragraph was actually about MONOGAMY, my bad. But sure, you can argue that marriage worked for your grandpops, and I will agree. But those were different times. Why did it work? 'cause your grandpapa "discreetly" had some on the side.

But we're not living in the 50s, we're not living in a matriarchal society, we're not living in a society where religion and marriage are separate - it's all moot.

Do tell me what marriage is.

(You don't have to pray, but I appreciate it nonetheless.)

there is no point in arguing with you because your off in left field and I'm playing a different game.

Also, not everyone cheats. I'm not sure if this has been your experience or the people you know but it is not the reality of everyone. :/

If you're not into marriage/monogamy fine w/e. But just because you're not game with it doesn't make it a farce. Ever thought idk society has hardwired you to disapprove of it?

also LOL at the female agenda.

thread

» Jooles on April 15th, 2010, 4:23am

Let's see, I used to be fed the same kind of bullshit most people get. I bought it. "Aww, marriage, girlfriend, bladdieblah". I was in tune with you and most other people out there. What I'm currently lobbying is way off field for about 85-90% of all the people out there (and that's not counting people that have a cynical approach to love because of being heartbroken or never experienced "love", etc. into the remaining 10%). So, has social conditioning affected 90% or 10%? Give me a break.

Of course not EVERYONE cheats, but that's dumb. There's a lot of people who can't. "Not everyone who is attractive to other people cheats" is actually a valid statement, which I again agree on.

But what do you consider cheating? Sexing someone, kissing someone else (in a lusty manner, 'course), having thoughts of someone in your social circle, having thoughts of someone passing by, expressing ideas, thoughts, dreams that hasn't ever been shared with the partner? All, some, none of the above?

If love was anything other than a figment of imagination, I would approve of it, but love is merely a word for a formula. Attraction -> Addiction + Delusion. Very often combined with not having a lot of other options out there.

I.e. Guy (Schmuck) meets hot girl, omg, she digs him, gotta have her for life.
I.e. Hot girl meets guy who isn't a schmuck like the others, someone I can't control, someone who drives me crazy with desire - gotta have him for life... no, wait, gotta have him until I've domesticated him. (It's part of the female romantic dream.)

The female agenda is no laughing-matter. Scary. ;_;

» moomoo8 on April 19th, 2010, 8:13pm

I'm sorry that your experiences in life have led you to this conclusion. I wont argue with you about it though. I just want to ask you that if you dont think that love exists then what about the feelings between parents & their children, siblings, or between good friends? Is that not love as well?

thread

» kawaiiairbender on April 14th, 2010, 8:09am

I agree. For me love isn't a simple emotion, I feel bad for people that only know it to that extent. sad

thread

» Ichi1 on April 11th, 2010, 10:56pm

Well if you are a catholics or whatever, they say that the Devil was created because he loved God too much (at least that's what he said in "Supernatural"), so I would say that love is the gateway to Hell smile

My life till now told me it's eternal friendship. Emotions are quick and over soon... romance is a... well society-created term. desire is fleeting. luck... *coughs* well sometimes. trouble... we are all only humans, so of course.
