Not worth it to me, sadly

To me, this volume, despite being a short story, isn't a nice read.
It's written by someone as a part of dealing with the grief of losing their cat. I mean, I sympathize, but that doesn't mean I'll pretend it's better than it is, at most I hope the author felt that this little story could give them some closure.
Onto the actual review, it's about some middle aged dudes that loves cats and an assassin who lost his cat and a whole conspiracy where cats seem to be involved everywhere because all of them love cats so much.
It honestly gave me a lot of josei manga vibes, what with all the old "dandy" guys, their love for cats and well, just in general.
It reads like the last volume of a crime/mystery story with half-baked "comedy" which only presents itself in the form of middle aged dudes acting a bit too silly and affectionate with cats, to the point of being highly irrational, oh, and the cats make some funny faces. The drama overshadows the comedic parts a bit too much. The thing is, why would you care about their stories when you only read what feels like the final chapter? It's like missing all the build up and going straight to the end, it simply doesn't make for a good read. It's filled to the brim with forced comedy and overdone drama that ends up feeling fake to the point where they appear to be staging some kind of theater play. Imparting overly complicated feelings/intentions on cats' actions makes it feel even more forced.
The only reason people read it at all is because it's short and can easily be read in 30 minutes, which is probably less than a third of a typical movie and 1.5 anime episodes. It'd likely be dropped pretty fast otherwise. I can tell you right now that I felt very bored even halfway through one volume, if there had been 2 or more, I would've dropped it a third through the first one.
The author clearly didn't write this with the intention of making a truly good story and that's to be expected since the author actually did admit why they wrote/drew it. It is and reads more like a personal project made for fun and to deal with some sadness.
If you recently lost a cat, and maybe you're a girl too since it feels a bit forced with all the middle aged dandies, the cats, their actions and speech patterns, then this might be a nice story. Otherwise I wouldn't really recommend it.
5/10, 2 for the art, 1 for the pretty funny cat faces, 2 for the message it wants to get across. I hope that now, after 5 years, the author has since long ago taken in a new cat that is now living happily in the prime of its life and providing them with a lot of joy and warm company just like my 2 maine coons does to me.

I really liked the art and a good story. It has dirty cops, cover-ups, a hitman, revenge and lots of cats. It's a surprisingly serious story in a comedic setup - big, bad men doing deals in a cat bar. It even has a touching moment or two. Overall a nice short read.
