Description
A young Taiwanese assassin codenamed "Glass Heart" committed suicide by jumping off a building, and her heart was pierced by a metal fence. Miraculously, her life was saved by heart transplantation. During her recovery she began to experience strange dreams, which led her to Japan looking for the donor of her heart, who happens to be Kaori Makimura, former partner of City Hunter.

Angel Heart shares the same characters as City Hunter but is not its continuation. Therefore, the events take place in a parallel universe.

This series, being a perfect sequel of City Hunter and just like CH, it's ridiculously good.
The first part of the story somehow seemed a bit off to me. However by volume 3, the story were back on track, and then it just got better and better.
Definitely a must read, also many thanks to Evil Genius for the releases, please keep it coming. biggrin

Really good art. Starts off very interesting, but then becomes sort of a troubleshooter type series. Very formulaic unlike the beginning. I thought I was watching some old 80s detective show with a crime or situation to be solved every week. I read about 77 chpts and I wish I hadn't since it really lost its edge.

I love city hunter, I like Angel Heart.
The two series are good, each has his own. City Hunter is the comedy for that reason I caught it, and do not stop laughing.
Angel heart has emotions to the surface, feelings of Kaori Ryo, the relationship with his daughter, and continued learning.

This one is written very differently from other modern manga.
The reason might be, that it's a spin-off from an 80's manga. At least it really feals like one of these 80's frankobelgic influenced old school mangas.
Since I am no manga, but a general comic fan I don't mind at all, but "modern manga purists" should be carefull, as this is probably not their style.

From chapter 1 I knew this was going to be my best find of a lifetime. I know that the story goes down hill after Glass heart settles down, but it is still an action manga, and the protagonists are kick-ass. This is the manga that got me into being an otaku, so I am very sentimental towards it. The comedy is the best and even my sister (who thinks she is above manga) calls Ryo the "man with balls of steel" and reads it regularly. The only drawback of this manga is not the art or the story, but the scanlators. I am really understanding when it comes to updates, but 200 days for a chapter is really taking the Michael.

After 2 huge hits like Cat's Eye and City Hunter Tsukasa Hojo found himself a bit in a creative dead-end, unable to create something else as poppular as these 2 series. Not that he didn't try, but unfortunately for him F-Compo wasn't too popular, and the other stories he created were rather short. So in the early 2000 he decided to do what most mangaka seem to do, create a sequel of one of their old manga. And so Hojo brought us Angel Heart, set in an alternative world (yeah, sure) where Kaori Makimura dies in the very first chapterand her heart Is transplanted into a female assassin. So yeah, the premise is ok I guess, if only Hojo had the balls to male a standalone story without using characters from City Hunter I guess I would have liked it a bit more.

The drama is good but the whole feel of the series doesn't resemble City Hunter in anyway. It's supposed to be an alternate universe because of the events and history presented in the series but the fact that it's not a non stop action and comedy fest like the original City Hunter makes it feel even more different. While I do like the new detailed art style and deeper longer story lines I miss the fun of the original.

I have heard the term "City Hunter" for like forever and Angel Heart as series has often got updates on where I frequently read mangas, but it was not until this week I actually picked it up and boy it was good. I mean, as someone who actually not starting with CH but this instead, yeah, I'm loving it. It stirred my emotion but not in upsetting way as I was set up by YLIA. Probably because while it has a lot of emotion, the characters come and go. But the recurring theme of Kaori surfacing was quite effective in bringing in drama perspective as opposed to how cool or silly Saeba would look at times.

If I were to sum this up, it's like some very capable war veterans slice-of-life kind of story. And yeah, I kinda love it. I feel it weird the concept of Shanin becoming the child of Kaori and Ryo, but over times, it started to grow on me and the dynamic is very enjoyable. I'll be looking forward to reading the whole series and then the 'second season'.
