...then don't bother with this manga. It's basically a series of episodes from the day-to-day of a farming village in a secluded corner of Japan that details how the people there cultivate, prepare and eat food, through the eyes of a very independent young country woman. Since the villagers produce the majority of the ingredients themselves from scratch, as a city girl who's barely even been to a village in her own country I found myself very much entertained by the descriptions of vegetable growing, paddy farming, fruit harvesting, fish/meat preparation, etc. It was nicely written and illustrated; the mangaka obviously has a good deal of experience on the subject.

There's also an underlying existential theme and a strong respect for - and understanding of - nature, which provided a thematic link between the stand-alone chapters that I very much appreciated.

And as for the comment below mine which actually dares to compare Igarashi Daisuke's magnificent and unusual art style to "something a 5-year-old could draw," well, I have nothing to say except: roll laugh

Having just read and been captivated by Majo (魔女, Witches) by the same author, but being underwhelmed by the description of Little Forest, I thought I'd glance over the latter's first chapter before moving on to something else. While Little Forest wasn't as mind-blowingly stunning to me as Majo was, before I knew it I'd gone through all available chapters, and all I wanted was to do is eat mochi while reading more about the world view of the protagonist.

I will absolutely read any other chapters I can get my virtual or actual hands on.

Nothing happens in this manga but people making food in a very superficial way.
Each "story" makes me cut myself to make it end quicker.
I'm not one to complain about drawing but if there's no story I can't help it, this is something a 5yo could draw.

Zero value.
Zero quality.
Zero enjoyment.
