It's a nice light read. One criticism I might have is that the plot seems to be holding back, it has the potential to go somewhere yet it never does. Even the issue revolving universities and their futures never really go anywhere, we don't even find out Kusakabe wants to do in the future. They touch upon it very briefly, but they don't really explore the societal implications of being gay in a Japanese society.

Love, love love this manga. The art is rather unique for a shounen-ai manga, but its no less pretty (: and the stories are ridiculously sweet. Trust me when I say that you'll get hooked on this~

This manga is cute, sweet and all. It was cliche, true.
BUT: The mangakas herself stated it was her first BL, so she didn't mind if she used overused and cliche plots. Therefor, it earned itself a 7; it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was decent enough.
NOW, the reason why this is my favorite series is because of the sequels and side stories: They were more original, deeper and all of this was mixed with her atypical art style and warm ambience that gave a peaceful feeling.
The full series had a very bittersweet feeling.
The sequel was more realistic, and very bittersweet. It wasn't just fluff like this one, it went deeper into the thoughts and feelings of the characters.
i RECOMMEND this manga, because it is the start for everything. To be honest, I have read the sequel first, then I discovered there was a prequel. This one is how everything started. I didn't find it as touching as the sequel, it was fluffy and warm, but not as touching and emotive as this one. This is why I gave it a 7.

This was the first work that i've read of Nakamura-sensei, and it's my favorite BL. The time I read the first chapter, i knew from the cover it wouldn't be my style of art. However I was still drawn into it at first glance. Doukyuusei is a work which made me feel like "first love" isn't so cliche as it is in many other manga. It's pure, sweet, and yet very realistic at the same time. One of the thing that drawn me into this is the developments which the characters shows, it's very cute, and adorable. Their feelings are also very re-latable. The art to add, it's just.... simply beautiful. What more, the kissing scenes makes me heat up .

I am completely in love with this manga - by far my favorite BL manga out there.
The art is just so unique and interesting that I can't help but fall for it, and I love the character's dynamic.
I think what really draws me to this manga though, is not so much the plot (which is simple, sweet and refreshing for a BL) but the storytelling itself. The mangaka's pace, paneling and tendency toward poetic narrative completely captures the interest of the reader.
This manga is refreshing, sweet, and totally manages to express that "first love", and convey those simple yet hard to explain feelings to the reader. I highly recommend this!

So wonderful! One of my favorites! The only thing I disliked was spending the time on the teacher. He’s creeping on students and it’s gross. Also he’s a bit dull and I’d rather have had more time with the main two guys. They’re both fantastic!

I was reluctant to read this manga because i'm a big fool and mistook her style for "Kami no Kodomo" authors' (who's works i found quite creepy ^^. So, when I finished reading this manga, I was gonna write smth like "this is the first work by the mangaka that i liked and liked a lot".
It's really hard to find "yaoi/shounen ai" stories to my taste. And it looks like Nakamura sensei's other works will also give me the same poignant but nice and sincere feelings.

This manga is one of my favorite shounen-ai's so far. A pity it isn't updated more often.
The writing and art conveys such a pure love. It's very emotional, relate-able, and just a joy to read in general.

So, yeah not a bad read, but I really don't understand the high scores. There really isn't that much depth to it. Most of the "depth" is just other cliches that have been done before. The Kusakabe is interesting although not very fleshed out, but Sajou is just dull and boring. The art wasn't bad, but it just looked a bit odd in places. If someone can tell me what they think is so good about this, please pm me and let me know why you think so, because I just don't get it.
