Well i read it to the latest release and it got me going somewhat..
Wasn't that spectacular but was able to hold my interest, i guess it can show more meat the plot is unoriginal well all manga is not original its been copy and copy over time... But I hope it become a deeper storyline... Please don't end by getting his revenge...BORING

Pretty good, fairly enjoyable, and a good read. Not the best manga I have ever read, but certainly not the worst.

It`s interesting and cute in a way. It`s true the idea isn`t original and all but the image of a new good formed shounen type manga is more than enough to ignore a little things that were said already. Kaintzel can complete with any of the popular characters! What give a little bad to the story is side chars coming with every new chapter and the form that is being designed - anti-hero with his friends going to save the world(that`s the feeling that i get so far).
You think just like Berserk, but it`s not so mature style and there`s not so much space around the the story line
A good story with great potential! 8.5/10

At first you will think that he's unbeatable with his swords but when you read more of this you will soon find out that he's vulnerable and not the fu**ing superman he seems to be :]

I don't get why everyone is comparing Beserk to Ubel Blatt. Nearly every series has some connections to another manga, either by influencing another, or being influenced. Take for example, 666Satan w/ Naruto: Funny characters, major timeskip, kaballah/demon-abosrbing thingy.... (granted the authors are twin brothers)
Overall the characters are coming along nicely, though i think that v0 might've been better off not revealing Koinzell's true identity & purpose (though you can already guess why even only reading like, the first chapter~)

My only question/complaint is that i can only find v0 and the first 6 chaps of v1. Normally, i'd wait for the next scanlations to come out, but i heard that the scanlators (sushi counter?) isn't active anymore. Even if it was, I don't know where to read it... TT_TT

Sure, Berserk is a good manga but that's not a reason to compare each and every fantasy action stuff with the MIURA Kentaro work (reminds of people who compare each and every mecha anime with Evangelion, although a fan of E. myself I find such behaviour foolish).

There's already lot's of good stuff said about that manga, so I won't bother adding praise for this work (for now)... It just 'clicks' with me, a picky old bastard who read a lot of different mangas of various genres and art styles.

You may like Übel Blatt for what it is or you may not, but it's surely not a copy or rip-off of something, so please no B vs UB flame wars.

P.S. Let me dispel some misunderstandings that irk me:
*Ugly enemies - blatant lie: see v0c2, the lady with a harem of young boys. Most men (even evil guys) aren't ugly ether, there's a couple of old farts and ultrabuff freaks but that's it.
*Sex (rape) and gore -- neither are really graphic, violence is mostly your standard mature fantasy manga level, as I've seen a lot of grotesque and unpleasant stuff in Seinen\Historical manga I hope you'll take my word on this one. Plus there's only one brief 'rape' scene so far, per n sex scenes.

Berserk isn't a good manga, anymore it's classic. So I don't compare each and every fantasy action work with the MIURA Kentaro work. But that's not a reason to like other fantasy action work. Sure, there are sexy and standard event too much. I like the story but it keeps going fastly ( Bersek's,too is very slow). I think anymore the manga must be added some event that didn't guess before now.

Sure. there is very much similarity between Berserk and Übel Blatt. But tastes are different. Some years ago, i saw a manga. It mixed Berserk and One Piece. You think Guts wear Hawk-eye's clothes and carry his blade and Guts's woman (i forgot her name ? ) is there same face and same body. Do you think Übel Blatt is very better than it. İn my opinion its rating may not be 10 but not 5 or down.

Shamandust is right. Ignore all of the 10s because those are from people who give perfect scores to anything that they like whether it is actually perfect as a 10 implies or not. This manga is like a really, REALLY downgraded Berserk. The plot is irritating as well. It should have been labeled a shounen manga because of all of the shounenistic themes but it has a lot of gore and rape so it I guess they couldn't do that.

To summarize, this is a a low grade berserk with a cheesy shounen style plot and your typical ugly evil villains and pretty good guys. Main character is born with ultimate capabilites meaning that from the beginning you know that he will come out victorious in all battles, unscathed and of he asserts his own moral thinking on all others and dictates who he wants to be alive and who not.

Predictable, contradictory, annoying and really nothing new or anything special.

Never thought that one day there'll be a fantasy manga better than Berserk. But Ubel Blatt has very good chances to become one!

Despite what you might think from seeing all the 10/10 comments, this manga is actually not all that good. It looks exactly like Berserk, but with downgraded art, story, and character designs (a half-elf? seriously?). I don't understand why this manga is so popular on Manga-Updates. I really hope it gets better.

This is an addition to my original comment, responding to the people complaining that the series should not be compared to Berserk:

I do not compare every fantasy series to Berserk; you're welcome to browse my public lists to view my comments on various series. The fact is that UB has a lot more in common than just being a fantasy series.

Both are gothic action-horror stories. Both are set in fictional countries modeled after Europe during the Dark and early Middle Ages. Both draw elements from German folklore. Both stories follow wandering, lone-wolf, powerful swordsmen on quests for revenge against comrades that betrayed them. Both feature the main character killing evil feudal lords who are able to transform into a 'true', more powerful form within the first couple volumes. Both contain explicit violence and sexual scenes. Both have art styles that emphasize grotesque features in most of the non-main characters. Guts starts Berserk as the "Black Swordsman"; Koinzell starts Ubel Blat as the "black sword". Guts has a scar across his right eye; Koinzell has a scar across his left. Guts has a metal arm; Koinzell wears large metal gauntlets.

A couple similarities might be a coincidence; this many is a pattern.

I will concede one thing: the first volumes of Berserk were not all that great either. It's possible that Ubel Blatt may get much better. However, based on what has been scanlated so far, it is not very good, and certainly not worthy all the 9s and 10s it has received, especially when it seems so derivative of Berserk.
