This manga is most definitely my favorite shoujo manga. The development of the characters and their relationships is handled with great care by the sensei. I love every single character, even the minor ones. The plot is fantastic and each chapter is truly a gift.
Edit: 10+ years later. It's been going on for too long... It's really sad when good stories overstay their welcome and end up loosing quality as a result.

Skip Beat is a disappointment, honestly. Kyoko's intensity was refreshing but she turned into a sappy, helpless heroine after getting together with Ren. I dropped the series thereafter.
The art isn't too bad, actually. It gets better.

1st of all, if it's not for you (you didn't like it)... Don't start whining in the comments, just don't read it and don't bother us with useless feedback. If you still fill inclined to announce your intense dislikes... Please do it in a constructive fashion, so that you're actually helping other users decide if they might want read it or not.
Just saying it's crap and you didn't find it funny tells us nothing and only helps in degrading the comment section.
--
Good story with steady and continuous character development. Some might call it slow, but that's probably only if you're reading it with a romance manga in mind... Which, in my opinion, it's not.
It's the kind of manga that after reading a couple of volumes, you get the feeling you're actually going somewhere... Instead of simply getting more of the same with different backdrops.
Sure, it's not perfect (what is?) and not all is good, but it surely has it's highlights and at times even has some very good story going on... But, most of it, it's entertaining and makes you want to keep reading.
There were a few bits/arcs the manga could really have done without (the part with the Beagles and Valentine), actually all the times anyone tries to force themselves on someone else... I feel it didn't really add anything to the story (filler material) and actually made me skip a few chapters (which I normally never do).
The Heel sibling arc is starting to get interesting and can't wait to read more... Hopefully in better quality than most of the existing scans.
Also to those saying the Art is crap, it's more decent than average and most of the time it's the poor scanlation quality that makes it feel like crap.
Though, I must admit. If, at any time, Kyouko starts to develop feelings for anyone other than Ren (i.e. going back to Shou or enters some cliched love triangle), I will stop reading the manga right there and consider it 'finished'.

I read this manga in three days without being bored once.
This thing is hilarious. Nothing I like more than magical realism like this. I like characters that have unique personalities, because if it isn't there, then you're reading twilight. Actually, how much I dislike a character has everything to do with how much personality they have. This girl is definitely likable, yet not a bore, weak, or stupid. She's innocent, due to living in a fairy tale land where she seldom lets things bother her. This is completely natural for a smart person. Reminds me of me when I was in elementary school and had my first crush, only I was a lot more unlikable. She's one of those happy geeks.

Well, to be honest, this is one of the very few shoujo mangas I've read that I liked. Really liked. Followed even. But to say it's 10/10 is an overstatement. Since people who seem to review this are people who are totally in love with it and see no fault I will take time and just point out the flaws in it while still being in favor of it. An attempt at a useful review, rather than gushing over it.
On the downside the art is something to get used to. The lines are too angular for faces to be considered (realistically) aesthetically pleasing, the body is too elongated. Up side is you can get used to it and Nakamura-sensei has a knack of depicting movement in her art which is a talent often overlooked.
Downside , it starts slow. Too slow, for me it got interesting during the Princess Revolution which meant agonizing over 10 chapters of close to worthless storyline with brief moments of amusement. But upside is if you do see the good in the Princess Revolution arc (read: determined lead character, depiction of acting in an art and I can only emphasize the fact that Nakamura-sensei makes the characters MOVE.) there are loads more in store such as actors generating a new character.
Downside, the romance bit is overbearing. With the age gap issue and the lost heart or whatever. Upside is humor, it is pretty hilarious if you like over the top humor (well, not totally over the top but it does get ridiculous).
Well, I guess that's it. It is a good read. Not a ten out of ten but it still goes a little beyond average. At least in my opinion.

This manga does not in any way deserve this high a rating.
I tried to read it, I really did, but I just found it extremely annoying.
Kyoko's motivations are completely insane, and it makes her stand out as stupid rather than strong and determined. I just can't get emotionally invested in someone like her, she's got no real depth and is sometimes hard to take seriously. Ren bored me as well, not a ground brakeingly original male lead.
The plot itself did have some potential, but it's so poorly made that it just makes me feel sad that it's become so popular.
The art is also beyound terrible. Shojou art has definetly fallen to a new low here. The characters are stiff and the anatomy is laughable at points, and the faces have more expression when they are in super deform than when they are normal. It's just painfull to look at.
There are plenty of better shojou series out there. I don't think this manga deserved 1/10 but I'll vote it like that anyway to balance things out.

After reading the latest chapter 176, sparks are flying and it's inpsired me to write a review for this amazing series which I should have done a long time ago!
Skip Beat is a rare jem in the shoujo genre guys and girls would definitely enjoy. Although the premise of 'show-biz' has been used many times, Yoshiki Nakamura pulls it off brilliantly and completely transforms the theme.
Minor spoilers:
A good mix of shoujo romance, comedy and drama, Skip Beat is a MUST read for those who haven't already done so!

The story starts off strong but towards the middle of the 176 chapters the plot seemed to slow down without Sho making an appearance. It's all worth the read however, as the latest 'Heel Siblings' arc brings back the charm. I have strong expectations for this turning point in the story, it seems like the plot is starting to move and more of Ren's past will be revealed, as well as progress in Ren and Kyoko's relationship ;) Sho Fuwa's reappearance is nigh peeps!
