Romance?

The romance in this is very subtle I mean its obvious but its not really apart of the main plot at all. It's more about a group of kids learning to dance, leaning to love it and how it kind of helps them to improve on their own lives in some way or another. So if your looking for a solid romance manga this isnt it but if your looking for something a little lite and more about personal development with some subtle romance go for it its still worth a read.

showing ones age

As someone (male) that learn't ballroom, along with old time, latin american and jazz to the point of silver medalions back in the '60's and '70's, (showing my age but my Manga experiences start in the middle '70's with one appearing in a box as packing), I find that the chapters released so far are a good representation of how a beginner goes.
The first six months is hard work, learning the basic steps, but then it starts to pay off and quickly becomes fun!
So i've rated it an 8 for now.

For those with two left-feet or are awkward in games or sports, you should at least try the basics, it helps you to sort your body ballance and movements out, especially during the years as you are changing. Most of our team players were expected to participate as it helps you to handle quick turns and direction changes. I also note that for women who have had a first child over here it's sugested to have a go for the same balance reasons.

And of course :-) you get to be with and hold the opposite sex in contact legally, good for those of a shy nature or not use to being around them.

A Great Read

I read this manga in one sitting, and was only dissatisfied with the fact that there wasn't more chapters to read from as the manga is great!!!

The manga is not finished yet, but I would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in a manga that will be uplifting, humorous, and not an overtly dramatic shoujo or shounen. I felt like this would be good for many ages and I wish more people would read this as it is a fantastic read so far and I doubt will disappoint in future chapters.

This manga is not what I would term as a romance as this isn't what I feel is the sum up of the work. This manga is more about realistic character development as they are exposed to new experiences through joining a ballroom dance club. The characters are different in personality, but manage to mesh together in a perfect, humorous way. The characters are displayed with their strengths and especially their weaknesses. This manga has substance that I find lacking in many other manga. Yamashita Tomoko did once again a fantastic job with this one and I am very much looking forward to future volumes.

Everything I wanted!

The guy obviously has social anxiety.
I was exactly like this. Imsecure, shy, anxious and I would hide my anxiety with rude comments.
I like the charavters around him. I like how realistic they are.

Yamashita Tomoko is a treasure - this is not a point that's up for debate. I love her yaoi, her josei, and her shoujo, but this seinen is (I think) where she might demonstrate quite how good she really is. The first chapter alone is pretty effing good, character-, plot- and art-wise, but there's an indefinable something, a kind of life that she brings to her projects that is impossible to ignore right from the off, and that she shows *super* well in Butter!!!.

Above all that, however, is that the empathy for her subjects comes in buckets. It's lovely.

There's only a few chapters scanned right now so I can only give my evaluation about the start of the series, but!

I think that this is something that has a lot of potential.

There are six characters who seem to be central to this story, and all of them have their own quirks. Nothing too 'extreme' that you sometimes see in other manga, but they are definitely not boring. For instance, between the president and vice-president at first, I thought we were going to get a run-of-the-mill situation.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The president is just a 'figurehead' and the vice-president is the real talent or brains. While that seems true to some extent, it's clearly not all there is to it!

I wasn't sure about the main male lead either - but then I realised that he's a very accurate portrayal of social anxiety. The other, likeable, good-looking male character seems a bit shallow at this point, but I do like their interactions.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
When Kakei glared at Takahiro after being brushed off. I think it shows that he isn't just a token character and he may have his own opinions.

The female lead is very charming, and I really look forward to seeing how she develops!
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Not so sure about how quickly she 'overcame' her disappointment over not being in a hip hop club, though. On one hand, it could be just part of her character to bounce back while on the other, it may be lazy writing. I hope we see more of her insights!

The dance aspect is also very, very interesting and - I think - well illustrated. It's not overly glamourised. I myself have no idea about ballroom dancing but the very fact that it's got be interested speaks volumes about how it's been integrated nicely into the story.

Do pick up this manga and give it a try!
