i think everyone is getting the wrong idea. the incest is'nt supposed to be incidental to the story. it IS the story. and though i find it disturbing, it moved me (note, i applaud any demographic that can move me emotionaly, whether in terms of hating an evil character or crying when the heroine dies). (though on aside, the age gap i believe is also to show the brother/sister relationship more obviously.)

the concept of siblings... falling in...whatever (replace 'whatever with the right word-forgive me for being squeemish) is'nt an original one. but the way the mangaka addresses the idea is.as i mentioned before, the incest isnt meant to be incidental-say, as a 'romantic spicer'-rather, its what the manga is all about. while kissxsis for example, is a funny romance that involves ('semi') incest-koi kaze is supposed to be a poignant look into what we, as the reader, view as 'love'.
case in point. two orphanes in my community were brought together by mutual friends-and fell in love. it was only after (i think it was...) 2 weeks into their engagement that it turned out that they were full brother and sister (and no they did'nt get married).
in a similar vein, koi kaze brings out the idea of no control over whom you fall in love with. if you logicaly think about it, you'll understand that sibling relationships, age gaps, whats 'right and wrong' are'nt what determines our emotions. rather, they're merely brakes and controls to our thoughts and even our preconceptions. but even as 'love at first sight' is accepted, the idea that that love might not always be whats 'right' is understood as well.
I dont mean to defend the mangaka (on the contrary, had he presumed to force the readers view to follow a specific train of thought- i would have stopped reading immediately). instead, i'm merely trying to say over what i felt the mangaka was trying to convey to the reader.
the concept of falling in love with a sibling is a disturbing one, granted- but the mangaka unveils the story in such a way that despite the disturbing feellings it brought out in me- i was still moved to applaud him.

Pedo incest... must have made some people happy. With that said, the story could've easily been written as step siblings like in KissxSis and no one would've raged. Other than that, I must say the drawings are a bit emotionless, as with his other series, one of the reasons why I like newer generation mangakas. The ending is a bit ambiguous, well only one part of it and like others have said, the people in this manga are just too "okay" with the incest going on.

But hey, its manga, if you take it seriously, there's something wrong with you, not the manga.

Great story i love the psychology of it

I read 20 something pages and realized this was going to be bad and stopped.
I have read plenty of incest manga, and one with a very similar premise.
Why did I stop reading? Because the logic was fail.
Are you telling me a highschool girl will fall in love with a big fat old loser with one glance?! REALLY!? He looks like some creepy pedophile!
AND THEN, to make everything better she asks him on a date and he is with a female friend/co worker and she encourages this older man living at home with his father to date a high school girl. Will NO ONE be the voice of reason in this?

After that I couldn't read it anymore because I realized the author was just lol'ing while he made this.

MAYBE there is some deeper meaning somewhere down the road, but I'm not going to put up with stupidity in the first chapter.

There are so many well thought out, valid and educated commentaries already about this stunning masterpiece. A few great ones to check out: Monkeyvoodoo, Littleyellowdress and Geese1's.

This quiet, poignant tale about the human condition touched me deeply as the narration flashed back and forth from significant memories to future choices. The tension was almost a living thing as the reader anticipates the two main characters' moves. The secondary characters' lives all enhance and compliment to explain the motivations of the primary.

If ever there was a manga that opens up education and university-level debate, critical thinking or discussion, this is it. The mangaka has a dramatic way of creating a thousand words with one picture. Intense. For example, when Nanoka says, 'why can't we love?' other than being moved to tears, I was also moved to think. Using genetic problems as the reason for banning laws regarding such intimate matters is lame; we don't ban women over 40 from having kids, and the risk is just as high for genetic problems...

This manga also is brilliant at educating readers regarding incest: It's called Genetic Sexual Attraction in scientific circles. Freud said that we are attracted to those we recognize as similar to ourselves --more trust worthy, prettier, get along better with because of personality traits, etc. He also said that society's taboos evolve to prevent incest. Westermarck said the opposite: we biologically evolved to not be attracted to our siblings, but only those whom we 'imprint' with from early life. He said we have no need consensual bedroom laws; social laws are mere morality exercises in control and domination. This explains incest between siblings who meet later in life if you combine the two theories. Westermarck's theory "out-Freuded Freud" because Freud may have been erotically charged toward his mother, but he had a wet-nurse, and did not imprint with his mother.

Who says manga is not informative?! North American culture downplays the significance of 'comics' as being valid and viable commentaries, equivalent to serious literature.

This story really didn't sit well with me, and suprinsingly it was the execution of the story and not the incest itself that made me dislike "Koi Kaze".

For starters the story is presented in a very realistic setting but then reader is bombarded with logical and moral fallacies. Since this story is a departure from the typical ecchi-comedy route it relies on different plot devices than most incest stories, both characters become extremely tsundere for each other after the discovery that they are siblings. The age gap was also troubling and often overlooked, I have never met a highschool girl who was interested in a man nearly twice her age (whom in this story has no outwardly redeeming characteristics). In turn the male lead seemed to have unreasonably poor judgement for a man of his age, coupled with a propensity to half-ass everything: he never really seems to take strides to have a normal brother-sister relationship. Secondary love interests are presented but underdeveloped and immediately swept under the rug by both siblings.

In the end the message I got from this was do what ever the the hell you please and be selfish with total disregard for this around you, it's ok as long as you are being true to your feelings. In the end I would recommend "KissxSis" or "Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki ja Nai n da kara ne!!" for a light, humorous incest related read. Admittedly I do not frequently read romance novels but this book seemed less like a romance than a fall to temptation.

im a big enough otaku that im pretty used to incest, so it wasnt a problem for me. That said, both the anime and manga are like the most romantic and sweet things ive ever. since i finished it, whenever i have a free moment i find my mind drifting back to this story and just smiling. Highly recommended, if you can deal with the honestly, sub-par drawing.

Incest is a topic that I find hard to stomach, even during the course of the series I find myself squirm with discomfort due to the subject matter.
But the story itself is an excellent portrayal of an incestuous relationship. The mangaka did an amazing job addressing and exploring issues that arise from the forbidden relationship that is incest. The problems that the couple face as brother and sister in romantic love with each other are dealt in a realistic and somewhat bittersweet manner. I've read other mangas that try to portray an incestuous relationship, but Koi Kaze by far does the best job in dealing with the sensitive issue.
Another aspect that deserves praise in this manga is the main characters' relationship development. As well as their development as characters. Some might think it is slow, but I personally think that the development is just at the right pace. And by the end of the series you look back and realise that Koshiro and Nanoka have both grown and matured a lot. All in all, this is a great manga in dealing with a sensitive subject matter.

The line work and story was simply amazing. Such texture! I wont lie, the topic did bother me but I felt immense sympathy for the two and enjoyed not knowing what would happen next. Such a well thought out and written love story going back and forth from each character's perspective. I feel sort of proud?... that they felt guilty but still followed their hearts. It's a difficult situation to be in but shows depth. Very moving. Definitely recommend it.

I just love the quirky aspects and cuteness.. But I really couldn't decide to be happy for them, or be sad that their relationship wasn't approved. Seriously, their sweetness was so cute, who could say that their relationship was a monstrosity?
