Still on the fence about reading this one?

When I started this manga last year, I used to stick to yaoi manga where the two aren't related at all by blood. Adopted children? Fine. Step siblings? Go for it.

However, I think this was the manga that definitely changed my mind about it. I mean, sure, it's just a piece of fiction so it'd be silly to get too upset about it anyway. I started this manga knowing that it was a father/son relationship. I definitely thought I was going to be disgusted but I decided to give it a shot due to the high ratings. By the middle of the middle of the manga, I was rooting so hard for them to get together. ;-; Seeing their emotions so clearly that I could feel them was so beautiful. You can teelll that they're so compatible and their compassion is beautiful.

I highly recommend anyone to give this one a shot if you're on the edge.

Beautiful!

I haven't felt like this in so long. This manga was just so absolutely mesmerizing. Easily a favourite. The plot, if crazy, was nonetheless magnificently executed, so much so that I surrendered with little to no effort on its part. The characters are fleshed out to near perfection, the art is simple, lovely and gorgeous, the smut is great--- ah, what's there not to love about this work.

I don't particularly care for child-parent incest but I have read my fair share of them (of course, otherwise I wouldn't know if I cared for them at all). Therefore, I must admit I was quite ready to turn this down after the first chapter or so, even before I reached beyond the cover. I was not prepared, however, to fall so deeply for these characters and their tale. It was a turmoil of emotions page after page: the subject of incest regardless of genre is hard enough to swallow as it is, but here, with time-travelling as a major plot device (surely we all noticed Konomi and Ryou weren't the first to undertake on this adventure), the whole issue is put entirely into perspective under microscopic lends. It's not a matter of why is this love between a parent and a child, which started so long before the latter was even born, wrong or unhealthy or morally reprehensible. Ryou knew who Konomi was in the past and he still couldn't stop himself from falling in love - perhaps because that Konomi wasn't his dad yet, and yet he was. Where does that leave Ryou's mother, the older woman whose eyes were of such a strange brown Konomi would have never seen before if it was not for that man who once appeared in his yard out of nowhere - who, again, was light years away from ever existing. What of her, who was but her own child's replacement in the past and in the future. What of Masa-kun, that man who Konomi loved or think he loved but was, then, someone else? And what of Konomi himself, where does he come from when his own grandmother, we know, has seen her husband suddenly appear on that same yard (far worse than not knowing how he did it, we don't know from which future/past/dimension he came)? The web of relations is much deeper than you would imagine, that's why I say this is not merely a case of taboo and morals - of course it is also that.

I'm sure that, whenever I reread it (because I definitely will) I'll find an even greater world within it, ahah.

After reading the summary and a few comments, i decided to download it! kinda intriguing right? While reading chapter 1, It reminds me of the Time Traveler's wife ~ any good book if made into a BL style makes it really really REALLY fantastic! It will really get you hook up! so go n and read this manga! ~now, i should finish reading it > smile and check out the ending

This is just so wonderful. While reading it, it gave me a heavy feeling that I was able to feel what they were going through. For me, it was really tough and affected me. But this only means that story is beautiful. I love their very complicated love story, being father and son at the same time both guys. I love it. I hope Ike-sensei will write another wonderful and unique story like this.

A very unusual story from Ike Rebun...

In a good way, if course. I'm not aware, at least from the one's I have read, of any other story drawn by Ike Reibun with this kind of angle to it. That is, while it does contain a certain amount of smut, there is actually a plot, with some angst thrown in for good measure, that makes me want to continue reading it. The incest angle is taken somewhat seriously (as seriously as you can get for a yaoi anyway, of course), which is a nice change, because I started this half expecting nothing but smut, but was pleasantly suprised to find out that it's not.

Long story short, if you like yaoi with plot and plenty of angst, read it. I certainly thought it was worth the time.

Transgressive but really moving

I read this on a whim because the time travel element intrigued me. I didn't expect to almost cry! That doesn't happen often at all for me. My heart ached for these two. Konomi was so very sweet as a boy that I couldn't take his adorableness, and beautiful as a man; while Ryo was so earnest and tender in his love for Konomi. Yes, this story contains real incest, not the fake "we're relatives but not by blood" incest, but it was really well done in spite of it being biological father and son. It wasn't creepy because it was the only rational choice given the entire situation. It's a first love story like no other, and Ike Sensei made me believe that their love wasn't wrong, which I believe is a testament to her ability as a writer, especially since incest can be cheaply exploited for shock value. She made her characters actually mentally struggle with it, so there was excellent tension throughout, especially volume two.

It was just really great...highly recommended. And thankfully this work was nicely translated by FB.

Enjoyable!

I had written my entire review without even mentioning the incest. That’s because I don’t really care for it or about it. First of all, that’s just a concept created by society. If you’re not able to conceive (as two guys, for example), it doesn’t really matter if you’re related or not. You, as yaoi readers, you be more open-minded. Furthermore, if you do have a problem with incest, you haven’t read enough yaoi. I’ve been a yaoi reader for almost 15 years and I’m young, so there is really nothing I haven’t seen yet. If there is something you are getting surprised about, that just means you haven’t gotten deep enough into the genre.

Now back to what matters. I've started reading this manga because someone said it was the best portrait of yaoi incest they’d ever seen. While I can't agree with that statement, as I've read better ones with that theme, this is one of those rare, deep, intense stories that you should stop everything to read. But beware! After reading the first volume (roughly 130 pages), I was thoroughly disappointed. The first volume is a complete cliché. Nothing special, except the time-travel (which is never, at any point of the manga, explained). Though I like sci-fi, since this wasn't a story about that, I think it's better off that they did not explain the time-travel. However, the story was quite boring. Being transported to the past, having to make your own money because you have none of that time's currency, having to adapt...none of that was original for me. Also, the way Ryou and Konomi fall in love in the first place wasn't even surprising. Thunder, hugging and leading to kisses and sex, in two weeks? Boooring. And Ryou didn't even hesitate to kiss his father. However, I do think that can be overlooked as Ryou’s feelings might be a little more interesting. Even though that was not put out there at any point, I think part of the reason he fell in love with Konomi was because he wanted to feel close to his father in the first place.
With that being said, in the second volume, I understood. I finally understood why this manga is popular. The way the volume begins is already heart-wrenching and it only gets better from there. They struggle with their feelings the whole volume, like it should be always, in every single manga. After all, it's not a matter to be taken lightly. While I didn't shed a single tear, and I cry with just about anything, I do think the pace was just right: slow and difficult. One of my favorite things about this manga is the sexual tension. Since they are holding their feelings back so much, every time they see each other, it's so deliciously angsty. I also really like how there are no stereotypical attempts at making this manga like any other yaoi. No situations where a girl comes in and the other character is jealous and screaming (even if the extra is about that, it's just a cute, short story, nothing dramatic), no sleeping around until they realize their feelings for another...nothing. This is purely a story about feelings, and years and years go by before it can be resolved.
The artwork is quite good, though I don't really love Konomi's face. As for their personalities, I love Ryou. He's not a particularly outstanding seme, just hot, a bit sex driven, nice, a little but pushy and stubborn. Konomi is not my type of uke at all, as he's so whiny and annoying. I can't stand him when he's 14/15. When he's older, though, it seems like he gets a little bit better. There is actually a great point in this. It is very clear how Konomi has a different maturity level than Ryou, both when he is younger and when he is older than him. Past-Konomi is still a kid, scared and exploring the world. Adult-Konomi is actually more reasonable and, unlike Ryou, who acts on his emotions, he is very realistic and it shows that he is an adult and not an adolescent / a young adult.
I don't really enjoy how they cry so much in this manga too. I understand it is a hard thing to go through, but it seems like they are ALWAYS crying. The flow of their thoughts, on the other hand, is really good and well-constructed, and frankly, quite different from everything else I've ever read.
I did like the sex scenes. It's not always the seme that has to attack and give the uke pleasure - it works both ways. And I've seen mutual affection in the sex scenes in this manga. I do think the way they finally end up together is weaker and quicker (the scene on its own) than I expected, but the dialogue is absolutely beautiful and astonishing.
To summarize, this manga has both positive and negative points. I cannot give it a 10, as a lot of people have, because it is NOT perfect. But I will give it a high rating because that's what it deserves.

A Masterpiece

Ill be upfront: I don't like incest. I mean it's up to the people themselves, but the risk of pregnancy is possible and it can effect the child greatly. But since men can't bare children I'm more accepting of such relationship but I try to avoid in manga. However, I cannot express how BEAUTIFUL this manga is. I was so moved by it and it's one of the most remarkable story I've ever read. If you can look past the fact of incest I GREATLY reccomend this.
