Odd but charming

Yukarism's very interesting. The characters are adorable, and the artwork is lovely. The plot is consistent and believable (within the realm of the story) and has a nice pace to it. However, the plot lacks direction, and the only conflicts are 1.) it is unclear how Yukari's past self died, and 2.) two of the characters seem to hate one another for some reason that neither can explain. While this lack of direction would usually doom a manga to failure, Yukarism is just so gosh-darned interesting and charming that it makes you (or at least it makes me) want to delve further into the world just for the sake of discovering more about the characters and their circumstances.
Overall, Yukarism is a head above the rest, and I recommend it.

Now this is one manga that is a tad different from the regular ones about body-swapping, reincarnation, time-travel and such. At least I was pleasantly surprised at the twist. Wonder how the plot will develop should it resume after hiatus.

Very Good

I am hoping desperately that this manga returns from hiatus soon.

The manga handles the easily convoluted concept of reincarnation with deftness and humor that many other series fail to do.

Unlike NG Life, a rather similar manga (which I actually did not like much), where the emphasis seemed to be that reincarnations are in the end now different people and should be viewed that way, Yukarism's view is that even if they have no memory of the past, their soul is the same and therefore they remain the same even if they have changed appearances.

To quote one of the characters: "It's amazing how much a person's tastes, thoughts, and life path are similar as their previous life."

This is proven to be very true, and most certainly with Yukari. Some people might be annoyed with Yukari's detachment and "cool guy" personality but this is a direct reflection of Yuumurasaki, who, despite her smiling exterior, was empty inside due to the harsh world of the red light district.

Mahoro is the same as well. She displays the most differences due to having lived as an ordinary girl - being a girl, particularly that of the usual, regular family, means she would have absorbed society norms of what a girl acts like - but her core personality remains very similar to her past self.

Considering Mahoro's past life,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I think it would be very interesting if in the end, Mahoro will be the only one to remember the past. Takamura said he is an outlier, so likely Mahoro is the same as well. Souls don't change, after all. Most likely, all of them would forget the past, but I do hope the mangaka would forgo such an obvious ending. (Hopefully this is one of those series where they -don't- forget once remembered. Takamura/Mahoro's ability to cast spells is very cool and it'd be a damn shame to get rid of it. Haha)

I'm really liking this manga. From the main character's lax attitude, to the excellent execution of the story, so far. The only thing I can complain about is that there's so few chapters available. sad

I have the say, the main guy annoys me. He just acts "cool and calm" but in a completely unrealistic way. What I mean is, his character lacks depth and he doesn't display any sort of strength or confidence. So it seems out of place for him to be acting the stereotypical "cool-guy" character.

I didn't like this at all. Plot seemed interesting at first. But the execution is sub par.

I have read Chika Shiomi's works of Yurara and Rasetsu. Those were good but there was always something about it that kept me from giving those a complete 10 out of 10.
THIS ONE, on the other hand, I am ready to give it a 10. I know that not a lot of chapters are out, but the storyline is definitely amusing and cool. Characters are fresh and funny. It was intriguing from the very first chapter. The art, I have to say, looks like it has gotten even better than before.
This manga from Shiomi has definitely capture my attention and deserves more readers and on, because I get the feeling that there is a lot more to what is going on with Yukari and his past life.
If you are a fan of Shiomi, this is a MUST READ.
even if you are not a fan, you should give this manga a try. It is really interesting. I can't wait to see where it goes. smile

I can't rate, yet. Yes, I followed most of her series and loving them but I will need to see how this going on. She tends to make sense of mysteriousness and creepy plot get the best of her and nothing wrong with it, could be her signature. But at the same time, it got me bored. And probably other fans, she has the amazing artwork she could improvised with a LOT better plot.

More fantasy theme I guess with this one, getting the feel of the characters and look forward for more to read biggrin

Is it just me, or the two characters in the cover look similar to Kuryuu and Rasetsu/Nee-chan in Rasetsu's Flower? *giggles* Sounds like a revenge-project for Kuryuu fans* ^,^

Maybe I am biased when it comes to Chika Shiomi (heck, I probably am.)
However, Yukarism, is another new awesome series by her.
Crisp, clean artwork; interesting plot line; and loveable characters. What's there not to like?

10/10
