Ending redemption

Keeping in mind what everyone's said here already (which is all fair, everyone's entitled to their opinion and for the most part I do agree with them), I have to say I liked the ending and the way it ended. There was meaning to it and it made sense. Sure, it was cheesy, but it fit. So it redeemed itself there for how meh/crappy it was throughout.

LOL I'm living for all these negative comments. Everybody said what I wanted to say.

I dislike the art. The pacing is awful. The logic behind the after-world did not make sense (seriously, God, what were you doing?! and what was up with the last arc?!). The plot was good, but the storyline was, as everybody said, too convenient.

The entire premise of the story was for Shihoon to act as a judge for the contract between Faust and Mephistopheles. But that got completely derailed, which I don't appreciate.

The growth of the characters also did not make any sense.

Ah, so many complaints ... I'm sorry for that. The author worked hard on it. I will give it that much. 🙂

It starts off strong but is ruined by poor pacing

The pacing for this is all over the place and about 2/3 of the way through it just gives up any pretence and turns into one giant battle which becomes tedious as there are literally no breaks from it. Sadly its at this point they give up on characterisation and try to cram in twice as many cast members as before. It has its high points but the execution renders it mediocre overall.

Too much plot convenience in any fiction

Reading this wasn't all bad admittedly, but the series has so much plot convenience, Faust in the final arc had impossible logic leaps to deduce time powers. Other Faust deduction and intelligence was serviceable or more so, but the final arc and other arcs as well had too much convenience that was foreshadowed or hinted and felt it was made up just to help the character win their opponent.

Still it had's fair moment that I enjoyed, even though the author admitted some of the explanation wasn't good here's to a better work for the author as that is what he is striving for

Typical but Fun

Soul Cartel is a fairly straightforward action, adventure shounen webtoon in which the protagonists fight monsters while going from point A to point B. It doesn't really add anything new or interesting to the genre, but it's a pretty fun and light read on a slow day.

While I agree with the other commenters that the plot and characters are generic, I do honestly enjoy reading this series. Even if all the characters are flat caricatures, they actually fit the atmosphere of a (admittedly shallow) adventure series well. It's not a work that will change your opinion on a genre you dislike, but if you like this genre, Soul Cartel falls nicely within it. It definitely plays it safe, but it does so enjoyably enough that I don't entirely mind.

The worst part of the plot, though, is definitely Faust. Faust is, in a nutshell, perfection incarnated. He knows everything about what's going on, and he never risks defeat. He's probably the most powerful person in this entire webtoon, even more powerful than Mephisto (who actually seems to have trouble with some of his fights). He has such great plot armor that this plot armor basically extends to every single other person he comes in contact with, and so there's basically no tension at all when the "good guys" fight the "bad guys"." The good guys will obviously win because, after all, Faust is with them!

That's not to say that Faust is a dislikable character. No, he's just a bit of a disappointing character because there's so much potential (such as an exploration of the backstory of his current incarnation) that is overlooked or forgotten in favor of making Faust a super powerful figure with no weaknesses. Once you get past that initial disappointment, however, and accept Faust for what he is--an overpowered plot device--the scenes with him become far more enjoyable. And it even becomes kind of fun to guess precisely how Faust will utterly destroy his opponents this round.

The other characters have slightly more personality and development, though not much. They're all very shallow, but, as I said, they fit well into a plot that is also shallow, and the whole series isn't really meant to be taken that seriously. It's like one of those hollywood action blockbusters in that it isn't really about the plot or the characters, it's about the cool explosions.

But, if you tried out this series and didn't like the first few chapters, I wouldn't recommend continuing. It doesn't really get any better. It's a consistent series in that it never forgets what it is: a cheesy adventure series, and that might just be one of the main reasons I like it.

The pacing of this manhwa is sooo slow I began to wonder if anything has happened although there are over 90 chapters at the moment. The humor is predictable and barely forces a smile from me. The characters are also generic and worst of all unrelatable at all. They are all shallow, cut-outs and lack any redeeming qualities that would make them interesting in any way. Reading this was rather painful. While what happened with the protagonist's parents seem to be an attempt at adding some weight to the story, I couldn't this seriously at all. The oblivious stupidity of the devil is laughable (and not in a good way). As a result, you never feel the drive to root for the protagonist. You just feel detached from it all as you continue to scan through the panels - dying of boredom. This was below average for me.

This just kept boring me and boring me. It probably gets a lot better but I had to give up about 15 chapters in, it was getting on my nerves.
The main character was too weak for my liking and the focus of the story seemed to be pointing away from him at Mephisto and Faust. And it just kept getting worse. *possible spoiler here* he manages to get some kind of interesting role as the judge of mephisto and faust's contract, but then a chapter or so later his sister gets in on the gig and shares it.
There's only so long I can read about a lame main character. I don't have all the time in the world!
Needless to say, despite the manga's potential, it didn't make me want to keep reading so it got discarded. Whether the main character becomes awesome or not, shilly-shallying about the matter is a real turn off.
Grrr.
