out side of my inner fangirl..

yes, i can recognize that the plot isn't as 'deep' or 'astounding' as one would hope.

but then again, there are very few manga that could claim to do such and back it up as of late.

Kuroshitsuji at least presents a way for the mangaka to express tragedy / comedy / characterization in the form of a beautiful story all wrapped up and tied with a victorian bow. i personally think that it was done effectively.

and as for the plot, this seems like it would be one of the series where it ties up everything well up at the end and makes you go 'holy crap. that's what it was all along no way aldjf;lasdjfl;asdjfdas' and etc.. so it's pretty hard to judge at this point.

as for the random plot deviations such as the curry cook off.. since when is it frowned upon to have a moment of crack? many other shounen series incorporate it as well. just because the outlook of the first couple chapters looked serious/tragic doesn't mean it has to carry that dark mood throughout. (and it was very reminiscent of Yakitate Japan... which had a bit of nostalgic value for me.)

i love that the mangaka actually took the time to do SOME research. i love that it is set in a different time period that isn't as elaborated as others. i love that the art style is great enough to portray the elegant and stylish couture of the british fashion as well.

not to mention, the central characters have decent flaws as well as exceptional traits that leave me wondering how they actually came to be and how they will be further developed for the rest of the series..

as for the moments of fanservice- yes it hints at homoerotic action. but is it really a crime to appeal to the masses? as in yaoi fangirls? this one doesn't think so. especially since it's never a crime when other shounen series are never blamed for having yuri moments incorporated.. (doesn't really matter for me, i appreciate both ahaha.) the situations presented are also very comical and easy to make light of.

there's very little to complain about if you step back and really take a look at it. but if it's not your cup of tea, then well, whatever. to each his own.

as for me, i love it. <3

Kuroshitsuji doesn't really deserve a 10.

Before you all click on "No" for "Did you find this comment useful?", I suggest you keep an open mind than just act in rage when someone disagrees with you.

At first, I thought Sebastian was a huge Gary Stu (oh no she didn't!). His perfectness was what totally threw me off. Why have other characters when you have Sebastian? The the twist on how his powers came to be, oh my goodness!
As for the "darkness" of the story, I find it to have the opposite of the desired effect. Of course the butler has a tragic past! Though my dislike of Sebastian is great, Ciel Phantomhive is an alright character. He is actually the only round character in the manga, in my honest opinion. All others are static or even stock. The dumb and clumsy girl? The perfect butler? Been there, done that.

In my opinion, Kuroshitsuji is an escapist manga created by the manga-ka for nothing more than fanservice and potential yen. The lack of plot is one of them fanservices. Readers don't actually care about what the plot is supposed to be. All they want are pretty artwork and interaction between characters so that they can squee about how cute Ciel/Sebastian/etc. I actually have no idea why this manga should be considered shounen because of the plot (it's more of a shoujo series. I haven't seen any guys mention Kuroshitsuji ever, but all the girls--well, you can catch my drift.) and since we have such gems of comments about the BL hints. Yes, there are "hints" because the manga-ka knows readers want those hints.

Though it might be my cynicism talking, but I highly recommend that readers read something else than Kuroshitsuj if you are interested in the setting. Kuroshitsuji does not fully use its setting as a creative inspiration (there was mention of Jack the Ripper, but so far it's lacking), and uses the setting to cover up detailing. If it was placed in the 20th century, it could have been more interesting. If you're looking for a good Victorian Era series, you should check out Emma (but it doesn't have hot boys boohoo).

Needless to say, read Kuroshitsuji if you want to escape reality to look at "hawt bois" instead. Kuroshitsuji is not a diamond in the rough nor is it memorable.

great storyline, great art! The butler is just too perfect! XD

Well, for those who say this manga has bad plot, perhaps you should try to read ARIA, or REBORN. Be prepared for massive lack of plot... And huge boredom.

I personally think the story is good, as it reveals Ciel's past slowly and how it became dark (kind of horror and mystery) manga. The plot is yet to be revealed, not that it's that much necessary. Take a look at some manga who has its goal revealed right from ch1: Naruto (I want to be Hokage) or One Piece (I want to be Pirate King). lol. It's been 40+++ volume and both of them are not even near to completion.

Some stories like this is good without even a clear line of how far the story has actually been progressing. Like, Vinland Saga. Berserk also doesn't have clear storyline at the beginning. Claymore (the main char's goal is to kill Priscilla, but I think they're not going anywhere, lol)

So in conclusion, I think the story is good. I'm looking forward for the next chapter <3

For yaoi/shonen ai lover: Sebastian x Ciel is haaawt <3 <3 <3

A six out of ten rating for me....

I know this manga has a lot of fanbase..but I'm just expressing my opinion on this manga..

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Srsly ppl, the art is epic but the plot is kinda 'OFF'!!
I've decided to stop reading the chapters cuz some of the chapters are not supposed to be in that plot cuz it's so DETACHED with everything!

Examples? then watabout the whole 'Curry Cook-off'...the Fenching..(in between the Indian Prince arc..) and the whole cross-dressing (in between jack the ripper arc)... there's some more 'wasteful' chapters which are arguably FUN to read but you will eventually realised what's the point of having these to go with the main plot? or are there any 'PLOT' to start with??

and yea. Sebastian's hawt but.. what's the point of the manga? Is it juz bout him being a Good..Kickass-Perfect butler? or is it revolve the Phantomhive family n that Devil curse??

Personally, a good manga doesn't necessarily had to have Cool-looking character or a strong theme.. it should also atleast be RELATABLE to the main plot. Kuroshitsuji does have both qualities of having a Strong Victorian era-like theme and interesting characters but sometimes, the mangaka should limit on how the story-telling revolves around that victorian setting and the main plot/arc of the manga.

Godchild is a better manga than this..(not just the character, but plot-wise..)

Well..that's just me.

I am so glad I decided to read this, despite it being a shounen I love it, The summary does not do this justice, All the characters are great and well developed and the artwork is amazing, I dont find any of the chracters annoying at all, even the ditzy maid is hilarious. This is not one to be missed 10+ from me for this series.

You'll want to make the deal with the devil to have Sebastian as your butler.

I've had this in my waiting list for a while but never bothered reading it thinking it was all about how it was a peek in a butler's life, etc. Man, I made that mistake. I finally came to reading it after seeing an anime on this and it's really good. In terms of wackiness, it's similar to Gintama but Gintama is wacky in of itself. The manga still retains its own wackiness, Yes, there is subtle hints of BL in there but it's tolerable. BL is not the main focus (Thank god! I am female but there comes a time in your life, you want actual plot than crappy stories meant for pleasing your hormones). The comedy is fantastic, there has been many scenes where I laughed out loud, especially when concerning the supporting characters (The gramps is my favourite). You'll grow to love their faults. The main character is not whiny, a major plus. He's probably the most mature 12 year old I've ever seen. After reading this, you'll wish you made a deal with the devil to have a butler like Sebastian.

Without spoiling too much, I'll just say the author knows how to write and entertain her readers without making it seem repetitive. She's done her research on the period and wow, it's really well done. The art is very nice on the eyes. Another major plus.

So what are you waiting for? Check this out! Don't put it off on the last minute like me.

I just read 2 volumes, and I have to say it's great. Awesome art for a shounen series, great sense of humor, likeable main characters, and what's more, both of them are hot ^^. As for BL fangirl like me, I also feel the slash so I am more than happy with that. It's been some time since I've read such an interesting manga, so I hope it will get better in the next volumes biggrin

I usually determine how much I like the manga by the protagonists and art. In this case I feel that Ciel Phantomhive is definitely everything I'm looking for in a main character. He's the kind of character you can't help but fall in love with. Kuroshitsuji definitely has it all. There's no bullshit romance, no shoujo topics, and no ecchi. The only character I disapprove of is Elizabeth, but she gets better throughout the story. It reminded me of Nabari no Ou, even though they are in no way similar. The art is alright. It's not overwhelmingly great, but much better than tolerable. The reason "tolerable" is used is because there are certain manga where the art can only be described as impossible, or intolerable. Manga is what puts food on the mangaka's table, and pays their rent; in other words their livelihood, so they inevitably have to do it well. I open a manga with mind that the art must definitely be good. More simply, it is an expectation, and Toboso did not fall short of it, but did not exceed it by much.

It is great, though, to see Toboso Yana do something other than yaoi, I like that Toboso keeps improving and will likely continue to do so, being only 24.

I can see people comparing it to Hayate from the description provided here; though, I see some people can't see past "Hayate is in -debt-!! It is totally different because of that." ^_^ It is different, it is dark.
Not to bad so far, I look forward to more chapters.

The hotness of Sebastian

If this series had to be compared to anything...it's more like Hellsing in my opinion...
Sebastian looks alot like Mukuro Rokudo from Reborn. It has the feeling of Reborn, too. What with all the action plus silly/cool characters. But at least Ciel is not a wimpy, crybaby...in fact, he's pretty cool.
But wow,...Seb...didn't expect him to be like that...Sebastian in action is so awesome...
Very enjoyable. I recommend you read it...though the action doesn't pick up till like, chapter 3-4ish...
