Personally, at first sight .. this manga isn't quite eye-catching. The art wasn't as attractive as other shoujo art are. But you'll get used to the art anyway. smile
After reading it (and chinese raws up to ch 40+) , there are some ''doki-doki''
scenes which makes you feel excited and makes you want to continue reading it.

The scene of Sawako and Kazehaya is simply CUTE!
Spoiler (highlight to view)
They finally confessed!! It's soooo sweet! GOSH!

The romance was okay It just gets better and better (as we can see more development)
between Sawako and Kazehaya ..
(actually, i think that... the romance part is kind of draggy =.= ..
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Sawako is REALLY Super super Dense. *goshh . this makes me want to support the girl more >w<

Nevertheless, It's recommended! Strongly recommended! It's pretty good and the plot is still developing. ;D
Spoiler (highlight to view)
It's great to have someone like Kurumi in the manga. Luckily, the mangaka didn't spoil this character's personality by having her to destroy everything that Sawako has now.. or smth like that. XD

Great story, Great manga.

The only manga that i'm so obsessed about. wheehee.

I've been reading manga under the romantic genre since pre-teen years. Now that I'm 19, I have to admit that Kimi ni Todoke has been one of the first shoujo manga to pique my interest despite such jaded plotline. Original plotline is difficult to find, however, Shiina Karuho transcends the normal expectation those plotlines often depict by using character development and interaction to substantiate and create a story that shows depth. The interaction between the characters are realistically portrayed excluding the highly superstitious classmates. Sawako's naivete makes up a lot of her personality at first, but as you continually read on, you find that she has individual strength despite such strong rejection in the beginning. That individual strength develops as she begins to understand the need for human companionship and friendship which fuels the connection among her and the people around her. Concerning Kazehaya, I was slightly wary of his personality (the easy cheerfulness) but you find that despite such happy outlook in life and in friends, he easily agonizes over the developments in his relationship with Sawako. His desire to be with Sawako creates creates a pleasant tension but because the tension continues, it gives us a chance to see their friendly development not just as individuals but as a couple. That sort of slow romance is perfect for the pace of the story line. The supporting characters (Yano, Yoshida, and Sanada) are surprisingly realistic. Each are well-rounded in their interests and personalities. All of them are also very different persons. That gives the character interaction a more interesting perspective because Shiina uses their perspective to help move the story along. Their involvement is incredibly natural and amusing, as well. The story is not without its trials and sufferings and Shiina utilizes it well, allowing her audience to relate to each situation as the character's reaction is authentic to the youth portrayed creating refreshing and endearing moments that won't let you stop smiling.

Don't Give up on this Manga!

The people who keep giving Kimi Ni Todoke a "bad" review most likely has not read past volume one...I almost made the same mistake and wanted to stop reading it after the first four chapters. But I decided to give it one more try and was really shocked at how better it got.
For example, the main guy Kazehaya is "Not" a plain 2 dimensional character. As you get further into the series you find out he is a very sensitive and caring person who puts others needs before his own.The way he treats the main female lead in the story is very cute and highly realistic for a normal healthy teenage love story.
I've read countless shoujo stories were the main guy displays an unhealthy relationship that borderlines sexual abuse. However, Kimi Ni Todoke is the "first" manga I have read that shows what a normal highschool relationship really looks like when the two people respect each other.
The only negative part I found with Kimi Ni Todoke was the first chapters in the series. The mangaka should have not have describe Sawako so similar to "Perfect Girl Evolution" character. It sort of took the charm out of the beginning of the story for me. And truthfully, the first couple chapters was not funny. Overall, I understand why this manga is so popular it's because it's a wonderful story about a gloomy loner who with the help of the popular guy in her class comes out of her shell. So, please don't give up on this series and continue reading it past the awful first chapters. Believe me it gets "Way" better...

it's sweet, the part when Sawako had troubles with Yano and Yoshina honestly teared me up I swear I'm not going to lie just because this manga is such a refreshing work. Not necessarily the best manga but it's probably the most refreshing and one of the purest manga. it really makes reader feel for all the characters. I love it! and also how the mangaka does every character justice like Kurumi-chan, looks at everyone's point of view which leads to all character being likeable for who they are really. It's a good one smile it irritates me how the scanlation is really slow though bigrazz

GO ON READ IT smile

At first when i read this manga, i though it was crap. Poor plot, bland 2d character, and typical shoujo art.
And 2 years later, after having watching the anime(which was decent), i decided to go back and read the manga just to realize what a load of crap this manga is >>The 2 main character is so fucking dense and retarded. Even after confessing to each other
Spoiler (highlight to view)
they still somehow magically view that as a rejection began emo and cry their ass out cause they got dumb.
=.=
I dunno what kinda crack people smoke to think this manga is good but it's really isn't. The main girl is a fu*king idiot and the main guy a flat as hell.

it's a good romance manga. mild and cute. the flow is somehow not dragging and not slow...just right. it gives me the feeling to want to fall in love and experience it.

i would not think the protagonists are just thinking 'too much'. i would just love to think that sometimes we need to give a big thought to small things even if it's gratitude or simple kindness. maybe that's tying my knot to this manga. Sawako thinks just like me. haha. and to think it that way... you'll get to love life easier and most likely she'll become fragile in the future.

Also, friendship in this manga is something you'll really want. This is the first time i get to see friends who would really think that way(care if a friend likes her or not). How i wish whenever i think about my friends that they also think about me just like those three.so for this...*thumbs up* thanks for the good time!!

I have to say this manga is very sweet and light. I am enjoying it very much.

This manga really brings out the feelings one feels for those really close friends of your own. And it shows how much of an impact they have on your life.

the second shoujo genre manga that i've ever seriously taken my time to read... its defin one of the better ones out there; usually i cant even get past the first chapter but "Reaching You" is just so interesting. the lead girl is too kind/innocent though; its not a bad thing but it makes it tough at times to keep reading when these stuck up chicks start trying to bash her
