a good series

I agree with you. Feng Shen Ji is not a masterpiece.

In my understanding, we only slap the masterpiece title on something that redefine art itself. And Feng Shen Ji does not redefine the art of storytelling.

It actually just a good series. With a good art, decent plot and surprisingly deep character development.

The truth is, there's a lot overrated manga out there. But Feng Shen Ji is not one of them.

Mahalo.

@akiradesu
and you don't even make a little review about the story. made me curious if really did read this so you called piece.
anyway it's just a review from people so don't too butthurt about your fav manga and usually masterpiece is given to specific author for their hardwork.

it's a good story with action, tragedy, love etc.. cliche?? atleast it's not only powered by willpower then you become ass-steroid-strong.
the art? clean drawing + full color. what can you ask more??

so, people, i don't know your fav genre or preferences but give it try for this one.

The time has passed, seasons changed... But Feng Shen Ji staled, as under the colorful art hides simple, generic shounen plot carousel.

It's not bad, it's not good.... It simply... Exists. You can compare it to that TV show you used to watch when you where a really small child. There where people... And they where... Doing stuff people usually do...! Did you remembered now? Well, I didn't. Because I simply don't care anymore about it. And that's the point.

Caught up to the latest release within a few days, and I can't hold back the anticipation for the next one.

The artwork and story thus far are both god tier.

Thank you Easy Going Scans for getting the releases out!

epic

This is so epic, and the fact that it is a manhua is even more surprising. Usually I find manhua works lack the pacing and the emotional depth that certain manga may have, but this is certainly not the case here. Great characters, very interesting story, and epic read overall. The beautiful color art is just an added bonus

The best manga i have ever read

This is not a common compliment that i give to manga - which i read quite heck lot of. Feng shen ji (series) is without a doubt the best manga I have ever read, not "one of the best - which would be the manga tier of tower of god, berserk, and such epics. FSJ I would be in my mind among one of the best - it has absolutely stunning plot, characters, and art - but the true emotional resonance, for me, starts near the end of the first part (FSJ I) and really develops in FSJ II when everything comes together and they invade the land of gods. A pity that it is still untranslated for non-chinese readers! It is an absolutely human work of art that would probably stick with me for my life.

To really get into this manhua though, you would have to be pretty familiar (or at least not discouraged) by the way martial arts and internal energy (qi) is portrayed in many martial art epics especially among popular oldies like ones by the author jin yong. The dramatic style of action and "overpoweredness" draws heavy influence from that type of portrayal, except enhanced to a whole other level of glory with the fantastical possibilities that the manhua world can give to a series like this.

I honestly cannot say anything bad about this manhua. It captivated me from the very beginning and has been getting better ever since, if it is even possible.

Besides how believable these characters can be and how heart wrenching their stories are, I would like to note the cruelty of the bad guys in the series. They are not just physically cruel as you see in many series, but psychologically so - yet when you hear of their stories (far from half assed), you can't help but feel bad for them as well. It's really hard to see who you're rooting for and development is far from predictable. The line between good and evil is also very thin in this series - not all humans are good, not all gods are bad - even the ultimate baddie may have had a soft side.

Excellent art+Facsinating story=masterpiece

The color drawing is very impressive both by the coloring and the scope. I particularly like the full pages of awesome combat scenes. It gives an epic feel that you rarely find in mangas/manhuas. On that aspect I would relate it to a french color comic called «Chroniques de la lune noire», check it out.
On the story side, I'm a sucker for Initiatic journeys and this one is extremely well developped. I would put it on par with a lot of the Epic Fantasy classics. The evolution of the hero's personality is believable and it helps a lot in keeping the reader engaged, especialy as it's linked to his powering up.
Finally, there is something that combines all that and make this manhua remarkable: rythm. By that I mean that there is a good balance between battles, flashbacks, story and character development in a very deep and well developed world. Ican't help but compare it to Tower of God, one of my favorites, with much better artwork.
Well worth the read. Enjoy.

Awesome manga, the only negative is how long the scanlations take to come out. The main character is a very small child with a naive look on the world, but I cant wait to see him grow up physically and mentally, until he becomes even more badass than his father.
