Dang. I read this a while back and there weren't so many comments on this page...
I guess getting printed by Tokyopop did wonders for this manga's popularity.

I agree with a lot of the commentors: GOTH wasn't truly a scary manga. From the cover and the summary, I expected something very edgy and dark. Or, at the very least, something very mindblowing. But the truth is, GOTH is just a fun spin at playing scary.

It gets you interested into the genre of psychological, but it isn't very horrifying at all(the only part that came close to this was the part about the serial killer). I'm more interested in the main characters themselves. Kamiyama is the brooding type who's supposed to be very 'dark'. Yoru is like this mysterious girl playing at being creepy. She's not.

And the ending wasn't creepy at all. But the story itself is very interesting, and keeps you thinking about it. I wouldn't mind a sequel for this one.

So it was nice.
I liked the coloring and shades of black everywhere. I think it contributed to the story well.

The plot itself was a bit weak, and unclear.
Either he was looking for criminals or for something about Yoru...
The damsel in distress part wasn't much to my liking either.
But the ending was actually sweet lol.
It wasn't depressing at all though.
I wanted more romance>.< ))

This story was a bit too morbid for my tastes. The manga has atmosphere but the stories and events are presented in a disjointed fashion. It doesn't help either that the characters are so cold and passive that you can't sympathise or relate to them.

The writer, Otsuichi, also says in the comic's afterword that he never meant to describe the mindset and deepest thoughts of abnormal folks or how they feel while in the process of killing. All he wanted to achieve (and was foremost to him) was to make readers think it's interesting, so he felt throwing in a suitable amount of abnormal psychology would keep their interest. I interpreted what he said as simply not going in-depth, but dishing out just enough to titillate.

Good Art, story is nothing special

I read this manga about 3 years ago. There's is no "Horror" on this manga. Sure the art was good, but there isn't there anymore than that? I understood it the first time I read it and I was like... oh so he killed this and he killed blah blah... ok, now what?
I read the comments and they said its has good psychological aspects. So I re-read it again thinking I must have missed something, but still nothing really. It was simplistic, very easy to understand, there was nothing complicated about it at all! The mindset of these psychopaths were passable.

Nothing striking really. The plot was pretty good, the twists were a ok but lacks something. While the twists on the plot was likable, I didn't enjoy it that much overall. I didn't find any Horror, only a bit of Psychological, Mystery is meh, no Thrill at all in fact it was boring... and a whole lot of Shounen material which I don't like much...

If you're a long time reader of Horror/Psychological/Thriller mangas, don't expect much. Too overrated. Good for starters though.

I don't know if I should consider this story a horror one because it didn't scared me at all, instead it kept me in constant tension, more like a thriller, which makes me appreciate it even more. While horror stories purpose is to simply scare you using terrifying images, this manga has an interesting plot and the characters have puzzling personalities. The dark atmosphere and the mistery surrounding the characters make this one of the most addicting series I've ever read.

I use to say that I have a weak heart, so I tend to ignore horror mangas. But I tried this one out, because it interested me. This manga can play tricks on your head, and it will leave you mindless for a second to figure out the 'why' and 'how'. But I assure you that it is not confusing (sometimes it can be, but you'll recover quickly) and rather understanding (not from the characters point-of-view, though!).

I love the main characters, especially the guy. I think it's awesome how smart he is. And the art is one of my favorite part of this manga.

this manga was no more... yet no less than what i expected it to be, it was just right and did not over nor under exceed it's possibilities. the art was very pleasant and fitting to the story, in all cynicallity i believe that it has accomplished it's purpose. i would recommend it to anyone that i knew with the same twisted and understanding viewpoint, this series receives and deserves a perfect ten.

A nice fun read. definitely something I'd recommend for the family. I loved the two main characters, they had great lively personalities and went well together. The strong point of this manga is that it isn't drawn out and gets straight to the point.

I randomly found out from IMDB that they're turning this into a live action movie, with Kanata Hongo!! I'm guessing he'll be the main character. A sadistic role like that probably suits him.
