Unexpectedly GOOD!

Slam dunk is definitely not my type of story. It was on my wish list and I just picked it up randomly probably because of its incredible art, and maaaaan I was amazed. It turned from a manga i chose to pass time to a manga i would find time to read.

Even though most of the story focused on them during their games but thats what makes slam dunk exciting! I still think it would be even better if we were more involved in the characters personal life. for example if we took the story lead sakuragi, we dont really know much about his life outside of the school and games.

finally, I expected more from the ending but I'm not complaining about it, it was kinda.. Nice. All in all I loved this manga and really enjoyed it, big recommendation here! (9/10)

It's an amazing manga, but...

-1 point for making me force myself to get through the first couple of volumes. Sakuragi was so obnoxiously arrogant, I couldn't stand him. Dropped after the first volume. Returned after couple of weeks. Still had to force myself for couple of volumes, where more secondary characters got more space.
-1 point for the ending. I wouldn't say that it has ended too soon, because if it did continue, it would've become stale. Last arc already felt a little bit too drawn out. The main problem is the way how it ended. Some stuff never got resolved and I don't like this kind of open endings.
Other than that, it's a truly great manga.

It really is. Its not the first manga to get a 10 from me but Slam Dunk really is the best manga I've read. Its just really fun and that is something I feel stories seem to lose as the go on longer. Also the most important in my view: long manga always seem to stagger at some point before becoming good again but Slam Dunk never had this problem. It was ALWAYS good ALL THE TIME throughout its run. And that is something that I can't say for even the very best manga out there. Its fun. Its hilarious. Its emotional. Its THE BEST.

Ok, so it's been...what, 7 years since I read it. Yet I still remember it as the best sports manga I've read (granted, I haven't read a whole lot) as well as one of the most hilarious manga I've ever read. I remember trying to watch Dear Boys soon after reading this and I just couldn't, it was just so shit by comparison.
Great amount of drama, hot-bloodedness, comedy, sports and I love that ending. Really, really hope those talks of a sequel after the mangaka is done with Real are true.

This is such an amazing manga. Worth reading all volumes. I'm not the type that reads very long mangas nor shounen actually, but this one was worth the while. The artwork is amazing, I love the characters, I became attached to all of them through the story. This manga made me feel the intensity and power and all emotions of a perseverant basketball team.

The only disappointing fact is the ending which felt a bit cut short, but still emotionally connecting and done in the most realistic way possible

Slam Dunk was voted as the best manga of all time (GOAT) in Japan by over 70,000 people beating other classic mangas like DBZ, Sailor moon, Yu Yu hakashu etc Shohuku vs Sannoh still remains the best match ever portrayed in any manga/anime series EVER, That was high class high intensity stuff which is unmatched even till today

Funny Manga + Epic matches + Likable Characters = Epic WIN!

MUST READ!

This is probably the best basketball anime/manga that will ever come out, even though ending was not the best, it written with a lot of realism. I recommend watching anime and reading this as anime has extras scenes and movies that cover some more depth of some of the characters, especially about Sakuragi. You can tell the mangaka really understood the game, all the rules and styles and incorporate it into this. You don't see basketball animes/mangas with fouls incorporated anymore. As I was reading on, I couldn't stop myself from cheering Sakuragi, just hoping he would do something crazy every episode or chapter. The stunts pulled in there kept me laughing and never once did I think this was boring.

Watched this in Cantonese when I was in Elementary school and now re-watching and reading the manga to finally find out about the nationals. One of the best sports anime/manga ever! There is no need for special moves or crazy abilities to make this good, just hard work and will power to never give up.

An all time classic!

I created an account just so I can give a review on this masterpiece. It's an understatement to just say that slam dunk is the pinnacle of the sports genre, it's a classic and ranks right at the top even when compared to other genre.

Amazing art, amazing character development, amazing humour and story-telling at its best. The most magical thing about slam dunk is that you will come to love every single character, even from the rival schools. My favorite character in the entire series does even come from the main team.

Even after 14 years when I first read the series, my love for this series remains strong and I still take the books out to re-read once in a while. The ending was epic in it's own right. As much as I prayed and pestered inoue to make a sequel, I knew the ending couldn't have been more perfect. Inoue sensei knows it too, that there is no way he can make a sequel without risking slam dunk's legacy. The only wish I have is to at least finish the anime version right to the last chapter, damnit!

Truly an all time classic! The fact that it's the best ever selling manga per volume in Japan speaks volumes!

Although the ending was disappointing, it was still the most realistic ending...so I'm both happy and sad at the same time hahah

If I could, I'd give this manga a 100/10 bigrazz definitely recommended. The art was kinda ehh and the beginning, but it definitely gets better (muuuuch better! biggrin)

Well i watched the anime and manga, and at the end of both i got a little upset , because there still things not ended yet, like what is gonna be sakuragi future as player, he was improving so well , i think a sequel should be made, cause it is a great manga but the ending is not that proper, i like the new manga that the autor made , but still would be nice Slam Dunk having a sequel.
