One of the best

Probably one of the best written light novels ever. The story is really well written as nothing feels rushed or out of place. Reading this novel though, can really get you emotional as you really do care about the characters.

The MC can be a bit too perverted, but he at least knows when to be and not. He also actually gets with the girls that he likes and knows how to deal with them, well after a certain incident he does. The side characters are also well developed and have a place in the novel. They're just not there to be the side character.

Honestly again, this is one of the best light novels ever written.

I read all 24 volume in 1 week, this is record for me, who basically read novel 50 pages a day. This novel is truly addicting there's up and down but some of it is truly a gem. I especially love how author from time to time take other people POV. YOU MUST READ THIS BEFORE YOU DIE.

This is one of the first Japanese books I have read and let me say it will probably stay as my favorite for a very long time. The reader gets to know and love the MC through out the book, and by the end if you don't have even a little bit of dust in your eyes then you don't have emotions. I get teary eyed just from remembering it. I would recommend this book to any reader that loves
fantasy or just any one with nothing to do, you will not regret it at all.

Huge Spoiler at the end of the book. I absolutely love how Rudeus at the end just walks past his nemesis leaving after watching his descendants finish his work with sealing Hitogami.

Have to give my 2 cents

I've been using this website for over 10 years and have never bothered to make an account, but I need to give my opinion of this novel.

Besides one glaring flaw, this is an amazing read.

Character development is fluid and feels believable.

Supporting characters who don't immediately befriend the MC, who in other stories would feel insulted or jealous and turn into enemies only to see the error of their ways later in the story after losing a fight, instead have more than one brain cell and either grow up or let it go.

The only real enemies are REAL enemies, not comic relief or plot devices. They have things they want and the MC is getting in their way. They aren't really evil, just on opposing sides.

Back to why I made this comment, the one thing I really think drags this story down is the harem factor. I get that the Japanese are obsessed with almost every underage girl flirting with adults and harems where every pretty girl the MC meets falls in love with him or is at least attracted enough to want to get into his pants, but I was really hoping that wouldn't happen in this novel.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Especially him actually getting away with marrying every female childhood friend he ever had...
Unfortunately it did, so I can only give it a 9/10.

The above turned what could have been a near masterpiece into a just a really good novel.

Do yourself a favor and read this book. I won't list on the why it's good, that's something you need figure out yourself. What I can guarantee is that, at the end, you will love this. Unparalled emotional rollercoaster that is pleasing to read

This novel is one of the best I've read in a while. The character development is amazing and at the end, you can really feel how much Rudeus has changed from the beginning. In the beginning, the main character is somewhat detestable. He was just the average perverted freak with no morals. This is slowly changed by the people he meets and events he experiences. He goes from an insecure, weak, apathetic individual to a confident, strong, and caring individual. This shows with his frequent meetings with Hitogami as he is first shown in his old world's body but at the end, he is in the new world's body. This can represent Rudeus's growth and acceptance for who he is.

Everyone has their preferences though, some people may not enjoy this and condemn others for enjoying the novel. That's their choice though. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest light novels/web novels I have read. The only issues I have is that the web novel ended with some questions left unanswered, which is why i gave it a 9.5 instead of a 10. Maybe the sequel will explain them.

Also, a lot of the people are complaining about the harem and how perverted the MC is. The perversion of the MC from beginning to mid-way of the series is definitely a turn-off but after that, it becomes less and less of an issue and unlike other harems, this MC is actually smart and not indecisive.

Finishing these 24 volumes of Web Novel in one week. I feel satisfied, and easily one of the best light novel/web novel besides some VN/LN that I have read. Even though some of the characters are not explained completely till the end, like Nanahoshi, Rudeus' children, etc,.. it's alright since we read the story from the perspective of the main character, Rudeus.

At first, I don't really expect much and even got annoyed by the prologue's main character and decision. But as it got further, I can get the feel of it.

The best character development I have ever read in a light novel. For the story, you had better read it yourself to find it.

I really feel with Rudeus, I felt bad for him when he was sad, and happy for him when he was happy. It really manages to flesh out the characters enough to allow you to relate with them.
The Novel is always on the perspective of someone, mostly Rudeus, and It really feels like you are watching from their eyes, with their personalities affecting the way the world looks. We have a character growing, and not just with a few "Oh, I have grown" or some super specific decision at times that he wouldn't had taken before, like most books do, but rather with his whole perspective on life changing little by little as he grows older and wiser. You read Rudeus's thoughts on the first few chapters, the middle point, and at the end and can see the same person but different, it's weird enough to be hard to describe.
I would also like to mention that not only were the characters interesting and well done, but so was the world they lived in. It was well defined enough to give you a feeling for it, and vague enough that you didn't feel like a spectator but rather a citizen, you didn't know what you couldn't know, but aside from that you got a good feeling of the common sense of the Universe of Mushoku Tensei.
The battles were well done, and the main character wasn't invincible nor overpowered, while still being strong and growing stronger as time went by. I don't want to say more on this subject so as to not spoil it, so I will limit myself to say that he was well defined.

Anyway, what I loved the most is how nicely it was wrapped. The ending was great and I defy people to try going through it all and not feel even the slightest bit emotional at chapter 260-261

A true masterpiece of Japanese anime literature.

Its finished now, but I'll flesh out my review as time goes on.

A masterpiece, of the hundreds of manga, light novels, anime that I've read or watched, this comes into my top 10.

It is a work on the perseverence of human nature, the power of unconditional love, seasoned with perfect slice of life episodes that make you feel you are living another life.

The author shows you beautiful scapes and introduces you to fantastical but incredibly human characters.

The pacing of the plot, along with meaningful and compelling character driven storytelling makes it unique and truly one of a kind. In 10 years I have yet to read a light novel from Japanese culture that addresses the issues of death, life, redemption and observes the sheer darkness of the human psyche while bringing to the forefront the battles and struggles we go throughm; this work sheds volumes on the human condition.

It is ended with a denouement that leaves no gaps in the work. Overall and absolutely amazing story that will remain a hallmark of all light novels. A true epitome of Japanese otaku culture.
