Okay, so I know that this is an overdone cliche, and I know that the ending drags out a little too long. But at present and ever since I laid hands on this particular manga, I have fallen in love with it. This is the THE manga that got me started into the whole shoujo, cross-dressing, reverse harem, all of the above romances and whatnot.
As many would comment, the artwork is beautiful. It was a little longer than it needed to be, but I couldn't help feeling a bit sad when the ending came around because I loved this series so much. It was funny in the right places and romantic and cute in other places. And it's full of bishie goodness.
The characters were awesome, most of them unique, and Umeda Hokuto-sensei oozed of delectable, sexy bishie-ness (despite, and in spite of, his orientation).

Beautiful Bishounen but Story Drags

Pro: Bishounen. There is a ton of eyecandy here. Pretty much the only reason to read any of this.
Con: Some of the side stories were more interesting than the main plot. Like many of the other reviewers, the story drags. I think this would worked better as a 10 volume series rather than 23. After a while, it's sort of ridiculous that Mizuki isn't discovered. She is pretty much an idiot.

it's main character is typical in some ways but Sano is worth it. and the lead is not *not* cute... i enjoyed the characterizations for the most part and that doctor was HOT. one of my first and a big reason why i still read shoujo. good stuff.

Hana Kimi is a great manga. I had fun reading it! Not to mention I love Sano.
Although like others have said it can be boring at times, it DOES drag on for some time, there are alot of pointless chapters. Its a very cliche shoujo manga. But then again its long I like mangas that are long and not all these short fast paced mangas that leave some cliff hangers like in the shorter mangas there's usually a time when you finish a manga and think to your self *what happened to that guy?" in this manga its not really like that (well it wasn't for me anyway lol) the ending is... satisfying... doesn't leave you wondering.

one of the best gender benders out there!
the characters are awesome. it's a bit long but each chapter contributes to the story. the comedy is also pretty good.
these are one of the few that i wouldn't mind rereading

It dragged on a bit. I flipped through quite a few pages without missing anything important. I had to overlook some of the cliches. However, it was a fun read. I think the protagonist was refreshing for a shoujo manga, and she stayed true to herself, the setting, and the plot.

I think Hana Kimi was the second manga I ever read, and it's the reason I got hooked on the whole franchise. It's amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing. I can't even describe how much I love this series - I've read the whole thing at least six times now, and it just never gets old.
Art: Beautiful, simple, and I especially loved the flowers. You can't tell it's from an older generation of manga at all. (I actually like this style a lot more than some of the newer stuff, with the enormous eyes that take up half of the face.)
Story: So original that I almost want to say that every gender-bender manga has copied this in some way. (Only this tops all of them anyhow.) The pacing can be slow sometimes - well, sort of. There are filler arcs, I mean, but it's not that the relationships don't develop during them; they just develop more dramatically during other parts of the story. And the entire manga is so funny. Like, I'm laughing out loud most of the time I'm reading. It's awesome.
As for the ending . . . I actually liked it. It wasn't too abrupt, although it almost started that way, but you could tell when the manga was winding to a close. And the way it went down really seemed to come out of the blue to me. I'd really thought I knew exactly how the Hana Kimi was going to end - when it twisted. And the omake at the end was really sweet, and I felt it really tied up all the loose ends.
Characters: I love them all. ALL. Ashiya because she manages to pull off being an innocent, cheerful, completely-oblivious heroine without annoying me; Nakatsu for being the comic relief/
...And Sano, for being the God of Sexiness. Because he is. Lovelovelove. Best bishie ever.
Downsides? For me, personally, there really aren't any, but I'll list a few things other people might find annoying.
It is cliche - optimistic, oblivious heroine, love triangle, school setting - but only because it almost created the cliche. There are quite a few filler arcs, which, while I find them funny and certainly worth having, do drag out the story a bit. And, there isn't a whole lot of major conflict: They have their problems, but they aren't big and dramatic, and they generally only take a few chapters to resolve. There is very little angst in Hana Kimi, so if that's your thing, you might not love this.
Just read it, okay? Please? It's so amazing, it'll be worth your time. (I'm off to start re-reading it for the seventh time )

love-rival
/best friend character who everyone pretty much has to love, Namba-sempai for being the most awesome playboy (with a reason! How often does the playboy character get a reason for being a playboy?) yet still being a nice guy and a trusted older brother figure, Nakao-kun for being such a gosh darn cute, adorable little tsundere......And Sano, for being the God of Sexiness. Because he is. Lovelovelove. Best bishie ever.
