the artwork is great (maybe the best)
plot is confusing at the beginning but slowly takes shape later on (about time after 17 volumes). Just hope that oh! great will continue the pace of the story at is now

the art is good - I like capable heroine smile girl with katana? ^^~

but the story quickly degrades and failed horribly trying tobe phylosophical by adding more complexity than needed.

the main character fails - typical shonen stuff

Great..and yet annoying.

I love this manga, but at times I find it quite annoying.
I think this is because the so called main characters...are annoying. "Aya and Souichiro"
Especially AYA!!!
At times I really want to to just skip through the pages with them.

The greatest pain about this series, is that the most promising character is already dead..SHIN. And in truth, I only keep on reading it because I hope that somehow he will return, and of course i really like Maya, Masataka, Bob and Bunshichi.

I think the storyline is sometimes way too complicated than it has to be, and the fact that the whole thing is as holey as cottage cheese doesn't help matters any.

In my opinion, one of the main problems with this manga is that the I totally hate the main characters (Souichiro, Aya). They are such a royal pain throughout 80% of the chapters they show up in that you can't just help but hate them. Rather, you get much more interested in the support characters, like Masataka Takayangi, than many of the mains.

The plot also is also dramatized many times, and the numerous flashbacks blog it down tremendously. The lack of continuity between events also makes it much worse than it could be.

Nice

The series is pretty nice, from the first dozen volumes it is relatively fast paced and nice but after wards it slows down considerably and is a bit less enjoyable since everything is put into a much larger scale than before. From just fighting school scene ---> potential war, it takes away from the light and enjoyable atmosphere. This is still a very nice read though.

Deva is bang on.

Deva is completely bang on. Oogure Ito should go the way of Obata Takeshi. His art is incredible, but he's never been the author of any of the series he's worked on. He's always been the artist, following the script given to him.

It's a shame really.

Disappointing

Like others, I was also annoyed with how the story-line basically deteriorates after volume 6. For someone who has so much talent for drawing, it really is a shame that Oh Great! has such major issues with plot coherence and character development. Maybe if he was forced to do a shoujo or a shounen-ai, where big boobs wouldn't count as a substitute for a good story, he might learn how to write decently. But I wouldn't hold my breath on that one...

Its painful at times to get through this manga. The story jumps around like a mad man. The art is nicely done, but with a plot that has no pace its utterly meaningless.
-----------
The first 3 volumes are tough to get through and probably turn away many potential readers. After volume 3 things get more interesting and start becoming more understandable, there's still a small problem with pacing through.
