Description
Daisuke is a 23 year-old new schoolteacher. He ends up being put in charge of a 3rd grade elementary school class since the previous teacher quit, and in that class there's a girl who's quite a troublemaker--Rin Kokonoe. You could call her a masegaki (used to describe a kid that acts more like an adult in some ways), and she's also part tsundere (though more dere than tsun).

Modern Lolita

You may have heard it from various newsgroups, gossips and one particular book back in 1955 that sensationalized the very term that would have most normal people lose their lunch. But honestly, it's a kind of reality that is already happening, and usually well hidden in the dark.

Kodomo no Jikan is a poignant story from the brainchild of Watashiya Kaworu, which focuses on kids and and the act of maturing way too much for their own good. Of course, we tend to scold kids to stop acting like brats, but if faced in a situation where a girl would 'playfully' invite a 23-year-old teacher Aoki Daisuke to acts of... erm... debauchery... what can morality do?

Sure enough, the fan service (for the usual freaks) were more accidental and highly coincidental where adults would pass it off as innocent teasing. But in the eyes and mind of protagonist (or might as well anti-hero) Kokonoe Rin, she is one child who has gone through a personal life-altering event that forced her way to grow up rather prematurely. The same thing would go through her surrogate father and cousin Kokonoe Reiji, who has to struggle to keep up with his financial intake to support a child at the same time with his own personal demons of his childhood, thus the adult-hating adult becomes overprotective to the point of being obsessive towards Rin.

In all things insanity, Kodomo no Jikan is a kind of morality set in comic format as an eye opener for those who fear to tread through the subject. Japan has been a nation full of diverse fetishes and fads ranging from shops selling high school girls' used underwear to loli fashion. The present world has placed a boon that protects children from such realities, while only a number may use it to their advantage in order to gain a favor or two. Either the teacher was caught in a trap or willingly sets it off himself, the artist of Kodomo no Jikan abuses the very rules that governments from all nations to protect children, has found a way to gain a foothold into power.

Kodomo no Jikan is considered as the comic world's uncharted territory, where risk is involve for those who wish to enter. A little perverse, funny, clever, dramatic, as well as moving, this is one story that has broken through the boundaries between conservative ideals to realistic acceptance.

And until now, people still find it hard to tell a child on where babies come from.

Potentially Great manga

To all who have read only a few chapters and gave up on it just becoz its lolicon or any other reasons that make u guys skeptical..THIS is not a mindless ecchi, lolicon manga just for the sake of fanservice or loli fans.Instead this manga is BRILLIANT..why do i think it is?

-The 1st few chapters makes u think "bueehh another plotless-fanservice-lolicon comedy manga" but heck i was so damn wrong when i started reading this until chapter 35..for me so far this one of the best psychological lolicon drama manga i have ever read

-Yes, the 1st few chapters contains loli pantyshots, lewd jokes and "what the heck with this loli girl perverted behavior(Rin-chan)" reaction from you..but that is just an introduction of what the author has in his/her mind which lies hidden unless u read thru the latest chapters so far...as the story progress the author will reveal a very interesting but disturbing yet make sense deep psychological drama which i think is very original in this modern society about some certain characters..in which is the main reason why ive been stuck reading this ever since and which is why i recommend u this manga. And i have to praise the author for how he/she balance the comedy and the drama so that the storyline wont get messed up

BTW..dont get me wrong im not a loli fan..my tastes are hot moms or hot mature women who are abit older than me (or in other words in this manga - Aki-san,Rin-chans hot mom) =p

An Open Mind

Well, after reading 30 or so chapters of this manga, it really has evolve from it's lewd and dirty jokes. Now it's more serious, disturbing, and all the actions by Rin in the first few chapters really starts to make sense. I really like how it touch upon what most modern societies have tucked away in the back of their closets. For those who are going to start this manga, the main story picks up late and when it does, it really makes sense. I will agree with others that the story with Reji really has taken a disturbing turn but all the disturbing events in this manga are connected in one way or another and if you can't see that, you are not really reading the manga. I won't give it a high score because the story isn't revolutionary but it is well told.

8/10 as in a B-

I have to agree with lah kouhei because this manga is a lolicon which means that there will be inuendos of the sort not only that but the real attacker is Rin and i honestly feel that is not that big of a deal. I think many people have different views depending on how they feel they were at that age, myself i was quite like Rin to any teacher i liked...although perhaps not as specific and not about intimacy but relationship wise.
On another note, i feel that Reiji is a bit confused because he sees her mother in her and thus is reflecting his unrequited feelings for her towards Rin. In fact from what i've read so far on volume 5 his feelings really give me the creeps. While sensei seems to be genuinely be captivated by her. Perhaps my views are derived from watching the anime before i read the manga.

Interesting story

[edit by mod, may contain spoilers]

Now we have got to the point where the 3 girls have their "apples of their eye" rin=daisuke, kuro-chan=shiro-chan, usa-chan=reiji. Now that shiro-chan is taking kuro-chan's attention, I wonder how that will pan out. That was a big suprise for me. How will reiji take the fact that he is losing to aoki-sensei? Will he give up and take usa instead?

The story is so great right now, I understand there won't be a weekly release, but I'd sure like one. I need to find out what magazine this story is in.

I was watching the anime and it seems that there is a whole lot about aki, that I don't remember, I need to go back and read. Well I want to re-read the story anyways before there becomes too many chapters.

even when they look pedo related?! This manga surprised me greatly in the fact that i actually enjoyed reading most of the chapters. Sure there are some disturbing scenes but the plot is solid, the kids are cute (although somethings a bit wrong with the main character child) and it also makes u think psychologically about children's mental development. I would give it a solid 9 even though two of the three female children really think like an adolescent child or older not a, 3rd grader.

i think it's kinda cute! i mean, girls always think like that when there were young about their teacher (male)... only because that's a grown up and not your dad(ew if you think about it) and young girls dont usually think of guys their own age

Good but be wary.

This should go without saying but do not let the kids read this.

Great art, great story and lots of sexual innuendo with some more graphic stuff popping in once or twice so far. This truly is loli. If you can get past that, be wary that it carries a strong dramatic element to it at times

So far, it feels like it's been a roller coaster that hasn't hit its apex yet. It frightens me a bit to think if/when it all comes crashing down.
