This series gets a bit of hype from the shounen crowd. It's not all unfounded, if you enjoy straight shounen, it's a very good read. Interesting fight sequences, fun arcs, good cast of villains, and an interesting adventure. My major problems would be the art, as shallow as that would be, bad quality can be extremely distracting. A lot of the characters are fairly shallow, mainly Gon (who is only tolerable because of his friendship with Killua), and the plot is fairly standard.

Despite this, it is definitely one of the must reads if you enjoy adventure shounens.

the story is alright and the characters are fine and interesting, and im somewhat of a fan of yu yu hakusho but the releases of this manga are so awful and every now and then you might get a chapter that was very crudely put together. but for a shonen this isnt bad.

Contrary to popular thoughts, there is an argument going on with SJ over this series. So expect this to either be continued by Weekly shonen Jump, or another Publisher if SJ does cancel it. But during the "crappy" art you are talking about, the reason the" takobon"?" is different from the magazine release is because he continued to draw those AS he was recovering from something like a stroke/heart attack. So like during a physical therapeutic treatments. Then he later Redid them for the Books. But then again i have no excuse for the bug arc. it is sad.

Personally, i highy recommend reading this series. it has everything i enjoy including monsters, duels, test, powers, and a adorable main character. The only downside is the often drop of quality that takes away some interest but overall good! I'm not going to read all the way through until i know the series will continue, so im stuck at around 200

This could be one of the best shounen ever, no kiddin'...and also the most unstable art (as someone mentioned before), and a victorious-underrated one, that is...Plus, it looks like the author seemed uninterested with this one of his masterpiece, and rumour has it that this will no longer appear again, not 3 years, not 2 months, but forever...I could imagine this will be like his earlier work, Yu Yu Hakusho, that they said ends with a crappy ending...And I hope this is just another false rumour

Whaaat? IMO, the best arc is this one, and the weakest is the hunter exam arc, when that God-damn Hisoka still acted like some bad-ass from nowhere...

And if you complained about the crappy art in the middle of the arc, well you could try to find the chapters from the tankobon ones, otherwise just buy it when it's published in your country.

This is one of the best manga ever written!

I do agree that the Chimera Ant Arc is a bit sad compared to the first few arcs, and that the king looks like Cell from Dragon Ball Z XD

But I'm still hoping that Togashi-sensei would get back into momentum and revive the amazing story of HunterxHunter.

Excellent. One of the best shounen ever for me. I don't like it when it goes off to the chimera ant arc though. The plotline runs off toward a more seinen-ish place, and the artwork really does get sloppy(I think it had something to do with Togashi Yoshihiro being sick) It crosses the line with death and the whole "taking over the world" atmosphere

The series started off VERY good but then when it got to that "Chimera Ant" crap, it got too weird and stupid. The art got bad and it went WAY off topic from the story. It got to the point where I was like ._. WTF IS GOING ON?

I completely recommend it until after the "Greed Island Arc." Cuz after that it just turns bad

damn, to bad that the manga has taken another break and shonen jump wouldn't say when the manga is returning..
well, we just need to wait..

Definately not like any i have come across. The story makes it seem like you are progressing with the characters and it helps you develop a bond that are based on more than just actions but deep thoughs too. I find everyone well rounded with a reason to live.

This is an awsome not repeditive manga. Sure there are times when you want to put it down for a breather but when you pick it back up you will feel sorry you ever put it down.
