Unpredictable

As other people have said, you can not guess who's going to live and who's going to die in Gantz. The manga takes a huge variety of different people with (relatively) realistic backgrounds and personalities, then puts them into brutal survival situations. The outcome is never what you expect.

I like the fact that the hero does not start out strong -- or brave -- or noble, selfless, kind, or smart. In fact, he's kind of an *ssh*le at first. Nobody gets a shounen-type personality, and few of the characters are even that likable.

The only thing I can't stand is the way the artist draws the female body. All of the naked women in the manga (and there are lots) have ridiculously narrow hip bones and enormous, pendulous, lopsided, tube-shaped boobs. They all look identical - and just plain weird. Take a note, Oku: Yes, some women's shoulders are twice as wide as their hips, but these women are not in the majority, and they are rarely professional models and actresses. Rather, most of them are Olympic swimmers, pro-wrestlers, or lumberjacks. Honestly, half the time it's like the artist has slapped a pair of enormous, saggy tits on a dude.

Best thing about Gantz. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. The development of the main character, the way he changes and becomes a better man, the relationship between him and his girlfriend, the way he changes after he met his girlfriend... just AMAZING. I grow quite attached to the main characters as i read on. However, I find it hard to grow attached to some characters, since they die so #^$%ing fast, which is a good and bad thing because it keeps you guessing who dies and who doesn't die.

In terms of action, it is also well done, the fighting scenes are detailed and enjoyable (the abundance of realistic gore and flying body parts is a bonus)

Fanservice? Yes please. (there is a moderate amount of it, but it doesn't go overboard with it like such mangas as "Yakuza Girl" and blah blah blah)

Overall, amazing manga with amazing character development, unique story, ultra detailed, clean, drawing. However, the pace of the story has slowed down to a snail's pace as of late and that is why my score went from 10 to a 9.

this action manga has possibly the greatest character development have ever seen, as it truly makes you like the characters and feel sorry for them, which makes it all the more shocking when they die. It is refreshing to see a manga where the characters that die are not just 2-D cannon fodder, but actual people with dreams and desires and reasons to live

Art 10
Action 10
Plot 8
Characters development 10

Strong points of gantz : very realistic characters (except katou ) .Art is one of the best i have ever seen or should i say the best . Many people are saying that plot is crap but believe me it is not because it is really hard to find a manga with so many unexpected twists in the story . And action scenes are beyond awesome . Oh and for all people who thinks that this manga have to many of fan service just look at the girlfriend of kurono

Good concept. Bad plot.
It's like one of those movies that couldve done so much better with an actual screenplay (plot).

So many "Holy shit did that seriously just happen" moments that I lost track after a while. And though it may seem repetitive, trust me, it isn't. A few moments are screwed up in terms of how they're shown, as in it's supposed to be an overly dramatic moment but it happens randomly and only lasts like several pages.

Other than that...Just an overall kickass manga. Gore. Romance. Guns. Samurai Swords. Vampires. What more can you ask for?

This is my favorite manga. The art is fantastically detailed, both external buildings/interiors and character clothes and faces etc. The personality of the characters feels so real it's like they are real people, the emotions feel intense. The plot is unpredictable (in my opinion) and never gets boring, even when re-reading. The main character actually has very good character development which helps the reader attach to him. Sure there is Gore (lots) and sex (some) in this manga... but it has sci-fi horror elements, and i like the way sex is in the manga sometimes but isn't a key focus point. Overall a manga with an amazing twisting plot with believable characters and exciting/scary cliff hanger style scenes.

Very interesting plot, but the story goes really slow and although the drawings very out of the ordinary i think it relies a bit too much on sex appeal for it to merit a better score.

well, as many people have said, it's very gorey, lots of nudity and sex, and the art is very good. it is fairy repetitive, and i cant see how it's ever gonna end, but i like it enough so far. story isnt too deep, at all, with probably the "will to survive" being the only theme and focal point in the entire series. from here, it's a bit of a spoiler, and i dunno how to do the special spoiler thing, so if you're reading, dont read this anymore

since the whole revival thing is brought into play, i really started to like it cause there were alot of surprises in character deaths that i didnt want or expect to die. it makes the whole thing kinda cheap, and really makes me glad that people are scanlating since the writers could make so much money just stringing it out for all the people who would have been buying otherwise.
