I like all of this author's work so don't mind me, lol. I think Shimura has an amazing way of making what would normally be a repulsive character sympathetic and likable. You kind of want them to get their act together rather than hurl them out a window. 😂
But yeah... I didn't like it lol. It's weird, even for a brocon reader. It's supposed to be weird.
Neither of the characters are likeable... they're both pretty gross personalities.

I think people are frustrated because they want to see the romantic thread resolved and see this story going nowhere, but I think its point IS to go nowhere.

I think these brothers genuinely love each other, but they twisted each other's love from an unfortunate incident. The younger brother idolized his brother and probably had this super masculine and cool image of him. This was ruined discovering that his brother was gay, and in a position of submission, at that. To cope with the ruining of that fantasy and feelings of betrayal, the younger brother lashed out at the older brother and became promiscuous. He wants the previous image of his older brother badly, and even offers rewards for his brother's tutoring (an activity they did previously) even though the rewards and his brother's behavior disgusts him.
And then the older brother adored the younger brother to a point of unhealthiness. No matter what awful thing the younger brother did to him, he accepted it. It seems there is a point that any attention, even negative attention, the younger brother gives to the older brother translates into sexual desire for the older brother, which only disgusts the younger brother more. It's a vicious cycle of desire, disgust, despair and desperation. It's only broken during brief moments where true brotherhood slips out between the two, which is painfully bittersweet.

Not really sure what to take from this manga now that I've finished it.. This is such an unusual plot progression, and the conclusion (or lack thereof) of the main characters' feelings makes me especially unsatisfied. Are they going to run around in circles like that for the rest of their lives? Or will either one become too fed up with the limbo and end up wrecking it for good? Not quite sure what the future holds in store for them, but what I do know is that I won't wish to read this again any time soon.
It'a quite messed up in a way, and the closure is quite lacking. I'm even surprised that I finished the whole manga. It doesn't really get to my emotions but it did have me finish the whole manga (felt empty inside, but nonetheless)
Although i love the step-brothers relationship, i don't see their both feelings are mutual or maybe it's just me. I have mixed feelings when reading this manga some annoys me and i don't know whether i should pity or feels that those characters are pathetic. Kinda one-sided feelings i may say.
..but somehow, the mangaka manages to make this an enjoyable read. The character interactions and their various expressions just amuse me so much and the disjointed storytelling suited the style. The art style is simple yet gives off a flexible feel. I've read a lot of BL but this one in particular stands out to me (positively). lol "pitiful brothers" indeed (as the mangaka called it). I can see why some people wouldn't enjoy this though since there's not much of a story and the main characters show more flaws than anything. However, I found them to be part of the charm. The only thing I didn't like was

that Natsuo became impotent out of nowhere. It felt like a too convenient plot device.

I thought it was kind of disjoint to be honest. Present-time progression is weird and how their issues are just kind of solved bothers me. The characters didn't make much of an impact either. The older brother was really underdeveloped and I think the reason he dropped out of school should have been dealt with in a more serious tone. Overall, his character was not fleshed-out enough for me to like him. I don't know if it as a problem with translation or not but their dialogues were annoying, also. On the plus side, the art was sketchy-like and I liked it very much. The younger brother had interesting traits too, but the way they were presented felt kind of flat. Truth be told, I wish the chapters were organised in a different way, in order for us to see more of the young brother instead of the older...
this is the most enjoyable manga that i read from Shimura-sensei, is a really good read. The construction of the characters and the background are simple but effective, and the design is really good. I read TONNES of yaoi so this was a happy found, because is not unecessarily romantic or dumb or melodramatic or porn. There is a story, who is pretty weird, but it make sense, i think that is coherent with itself (i don't even know if that word exist)
Whatever, if you like the genre, you shoul totally give it a try.

It's amazing. It's pretty messed up (ok, very messed up) but it's different than most of what's out there which makes it really refreshing and enjoyable (and super perverted). It's twisted and a bit painful but still sweet and hopeful. It's definitely worth the read.
