rate 9 for about 50~first chapter. Later become grinding , loli show, tsundere, harem king (in both mean ). In short dragging 4ever.

Sad to see my used-to-favorite became like that. I still follow it because it's unique, but I rate it now 7 at best. or maybe 6

Edit. At chap 129 I've skiped about 5 chapters because It's crappy, 6 rating for now, still hope for some anything else, any but not the things is happening is fine. Agrrr

Strong start but then...

The gamer was great starting out, and I still find the training and grinding fine, but the story thus far... repetitious. A majority of the story is just 'save the princess' under different conditions. I came into it wanting something not done in the majority of novels, comics, and games for centuries. But it's just like the rest.

The TLDR on The Gamer is:
1. MC gets power
2. trains
3. saves a princess
4. comedy,
5. repeat steps 2-4, 4 more times.

congrats, now you're caught up.

5 rating because average is average.

6/10

The gamer is basically instant gratification. You enjoy it because you desire it. The gamer's ability is what keeps me coming back. Who wouldn't want a power where you can instantly cheat life its self? Are you struggling with money, then just kill some monsters. Are you unsatisfied with your grades? Then raise up your intelligence and wisdom. Do you feel physically unfit? Raise up your strength. The list goes on. Instant reading books, having perfect health, skill creation, strategy mind abilities, flying, any power that has ever existed in games you play can be achieved with time, and then some.

So all of that sounds amazing to have! That is what keeps me wanting more, because I can't help but think how much more relaxing life would be with The Gamer's ability! However, when going into a story you expect a lot more than just level grinding. You want an adventure, a story, connections to the characters, and overall a good time where everything continues to move forward! That is exactly what The Gamer lacks. The author has stated himself he didn't do well enough on writing a plot. There is barely any character development, or story progression in the entire 100 chapters. Now I can tell reading the most recent chapters that the author has been trying to improve. I see a story coming. Although the biggest problem being, not enough progression in 1 chapter, which you have to wait 7 days for. It is slow, but not slow as you would think. Slow as in, it seems the author is too slow to decide what direction he wants to take the series in! So it has basically been a standstill of just the MC leveling up, and training. Mind you, I do enjoy his grinding. No overall development for the story, the potential in the series is really good, especially when you see the threats from the abyss (The Golem/giant thingy fight). After that the series just regresses.

Tl;Dr - If you're looking for something with an MC who basically gets to cheat life out with close to no overall story development, that has massive potential and keeps messing it up, then this is your story. No doubts about it.

Started out good...

The story barely progress in 100 chapters. the Writer even apologize about it at the end of season 1 but season two come out and the same shit happen. Barely any story progression.

P.S. i think the high score is because people voted when they first just started reading this and didn't know it was gonna be a story that has no progression. If you check the date of the review you would see that most of the newer review in 2015 think it sucks.

it was really interesting from chapter 1 - 22 ..im no one in this world.. but as i started reading chapter 23 ..(why would a gamer say something like that?, and a "gamer" means that a person is frequently playing games even if that person is NooB..)

Season 2

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
Hmmm what should I say I think it will get pretty exiting soon but there needs to be more of a story now its 10 short and i mean short lines of text per page if you dont read it on webtoon the content i feel should me more otherwise the chapters will feel short i can read season 1 in a few hours max 12 hours but i doubt it.
The Art has improved which is good and now there is some building of the story and plot but far from what i would wish to see.
I still rate it a 10 because this is so far one of the best on going im seeing at the moment.

Instant gratification with no plot
by Mizura

The Gamer basically played on instant-gratification, as the protagonist gained one cool ability after another at a ridiculous pace. Once that period of easy gains was up, however, the faults of the series became all too apparent:
  • A lack of meaningful world building. It's just there so that baddies would show up.
  • A lack of character building. The characters have no depth and are just there to serve as foil for the main character, and the female characters are especially hilarious in this respect because of how they all conform to harem stereotypes.
  • A total lack of plot. This one should have been obvious from the start. The only thing driving the series was instant gratification, and the moment it tried to squeeze in a semblance of a plot, it fell flat because of the lack of world and character building. (for example, it's painfully obvious that the protagonist helping one of the girls is just a half-assed excuse for the author to add her to his harem)

Read the start for the instant gratification, then go find something better to read when it starts to feel draggy, because it won't get any better.

Had potential

The Gamer had such a good start and still does. I even reread it a few times waiting for the next chapter. What I loved most is that similar feeling I get when I'm playing rpgs (especially skyrim) and my character slowly becomes a badass as he/she levels up. The Gamer emulates that experience and I believe that is why it was top rated in the past. But around c.70(the quality was dropping before that chapter but I don't think it was taking away much overall) feeling drops drastically. The best way to describe it without spoiling much it is to compare it when you are watch someone right next to you play the game you want to play but they will not let you. Secondary character interaction is important but not when their conversation boils down to:
"I'm more powerful"
"No I'm more powerful"
"Ah, you are powerful but guess what? I am more powerful"
and so on and so on.
If I wanted that I would just read any generic shounen. I read this because I liked the gamer experience that I was getting through the MC. Hopefully it picks up again but for now 7/10

lol the guy going about the harem tag in the forums was right. lmao at the ppl saying he didnt know what he was talking about. you got the classic red head tsundere, big sister type, the innocent type, the more daring type, and maybe loli with the earth elemental. You're in denial if you say this doesnt have a harem subplot.

Kinda like Tower of God, had some serious drop in quality. My guess is, the writer didn't actually have a story in his arsenal since now the setup arc period already passed, and he's currently wasting more than 10 chapters just for 1 fight sequence with secondary character.

Like a lot of webtoon/LN writer, this author is in need of a writing class.

Dropped.

drops harshly in quality

Chapters 60-80 were so bad I dropped reading this. It had potential but is absolutely lost at this point. Both the art and the story have suffered and the author just keeps abandoning and ignoring important plot developments.

Everytime something comes up that the protagonist would be expected to investigate or have interest in the author comes up with a horribly illogical battle that drags out over several chapters. The latest battle (that made me drop the webtoon) was longer than any form of characterisation the entire series has seen.

None of the characters seem interesting. Their powers have no obvious limit so basically every problem could (and some already did) end with some form of deus ex machina. Choices made by the characters seem illogical and disconnected from reality which would be alright in a gag environment but the webtoon puts on a serious facade quite often so it just doesn't feel right.

The high ratings this series got are probably from earlier chapters where people were hopeful towards the direction of the series but right now I'd doubt it would garner anything close to a 7, even from a young audience.
