reading through the 17 chapters i feel like reading encyclopedia or a diary. The protagonist encounter new creatures kill the eat it, over and over again. there're no plot, no mentality development, no emotion involved. i wonder why the mangaka choose to do the story this way, there is no point to this manga other than learning buch of creatures which i dont even want to remember.

Hating on a Great Series

This manga really surprised me, i mean i did see a high rating and good reviews but i was still pretty skeptical of it but after the first chapter you become really curious where its going then you get hooked. I love the premise of "ranking up" or evolving and the RPG style of this manga. Also once i learned this concept is when i understood what the title pic was and it made me really look forward to when it happens and beyond. I really have high hopes for this now and i really hope im not let down

Update: Honestly i still love this manga and the MC is one of my favorites, i love his do "whatever the hell i want" mentality. Plus how tactical and ruthless he can be. This is a pretty great RPG manga to me. I of course know its not for everyone considering its structure but its great still. People are complaining that it has no story cause it have a Diary type of walk-through in its chapters but thats just a different and interesting take on this manga. The most complaints i hear come people who are just too cynical from watching alot of other stuff to give this a true chance, or people who demand perfection or people who cant stand something doing something different. Just drop it already if its not your cup of tea instead of bashing it cause its obviously good with others.

So far it's ok

I liked so far, i am kind of a sucker for stats, evolution, types and skills, and monster with different skills ( kind of resembles fire emblem and pokemon and other rpgs)

Did not like the magical playboy character at the beginning (as soon as i hear the word esper on a manga or anime that's it for me. i am fine with sage, wizzard or mage )

But as things switched to goblin world i found it interesting and different . Deep inside, i kind of know this probably will be one of those online rpg fantasies (that for me is the worst type of thing ever hahah hate hack and sword art, i like the animation but i can't get into it, the fake thing blocks my imagination and immersion on the history : P )

I will keep reading while they maintain the illusion of real, i expect the history/gameplay will evolve more, since now he has a good level to explore the world... if not it will be a shame : P

What story?

This reads like a horrible biography. While the setting made me interested at first, that interest was lost quickly enough when there was no development at all, just the guy powering up and enjoying his harem. Nothing noteworthy about any of the characters, but what bugs me the most is the uncompelling narrative.
I guess I have to agree with Immortal bear’s endless rant, while it’s still not the worst of such stories I’ve read so far, it’s certainly somewhere down there.

Exactly what we wanted, a story about an over powered monster becoming god and ruling the world due to a cheat ability that he had before but still managed to die... Yeah I think it would be a great plot twist if goblin E or one of his lovers kills him out of jealousy just like in his previous life. smile

As far as the story itself goes, it's poorly written and has bad naming tastes. It Lacks development and has very little "story content" in it. It's simply a wish fulfillment story but so what, I kinda like it.

Some ACTUAL issues to keep in mind...

Given that this is a full-blown wish fulfillment kind of story, either jump on board if this is your shtick, or stay as far the fuck away from it with a ten-foot pole. Do give it a try if you really are that curious, because by all means, you yourself should be the one to determine whether or not you find it enjoyable. Always remember that for any series you're willing to give a shot at. Now, onward toward the issues at hand!

I love the sheer concept of having to work one's way up from the very bottom of a food chain, or some kind of power structure, all the way to the very top of it all. It's fun to watch the development of it overtime, seeing the different stages of said protagonist/character. Sun-ken Rock's a great example I read couple years back, and so I was really hoping that this would go in a similar direction.

After months of waiting around for the manga's chapter releases, I got impatient enough to see for myself what the original source's LN had to offer. Turns out that it's got some detailed violence and sex scenes going on, yet the manga version doesn't quite have that when it managed to catch up to those parts... Perhaps the mangakas cutting corners; perhaps he's doing it so that it could reach out to a wider audience based on the mag it's being published in. Either way, I simply want to point out how some of the juicy parts are being left out, and yet people praise it as a great power fantasy or "wish fulfillment at its finest." The light novel may just as well fit the bill for such praise, but this version's so far not living up to that. And as for the art........

Really good art. Girls are really cute.

So, the overall art's really good because the girls (who don't get to be shown all the time) are really cute? I'm sure this wasn't what you intended to mean, but the way you framed that sentence leads me to see it as that... ._____.

In all seriousness with the art, I can't seem to be engaged with its lackluster fight scenes. It's not exactly terrible, but it could definitely improve in quality: Re:monster's artwork compared to Gate's pretty good artwork and Berserk's SUPER HIGH QUALITY artwork.
Same can be said for the backgrounds; having seen many typical forest and cave backgrounds throughout many other fantasy series, I really don't find myself immersed. Immersion is a key factor that aids the entire "wish fulfillment" aspect for the reader, and when the art fails to deliver that part, the experience loses out on the potential it's holding. Again, look at great images like Berserk's, Gate's, and heck even the sci-fi Knight's of Sidonia's!!!
The character designs are fine to say the least. Goblins look like goblins, monsters look like monsters, harem girls look like harem girls, and some of the stock human enemies look like everything I could've possibly dreamed for.

TL;DR
great_k, I get a bit agitated hearing you say that this is a proper seinen manga, as it's been neutered of its own violence and sex featured in the original material. So I don't see this as a good adaptation to its LN, but for anyone who can still manage to dig it, I can at least understand why.

As people have already mentioned, this whole story is a giant wet dream for people unsatisfied with life. The narration and even art gets pretty terrible, and the world-building is inconsistent--we are not given the rules of this world; instead, the author seems to pull new stuff out of his butthole every time the situation calls for it.

The wish fulfillment is on point, though, I gotta say. The main character is worshiped as a god to these lower beings (goblins) but oh hey even though he was originally one of these lame goblins, he killed and leveled up! Great! He even has human females after him! Muy bien~! I can imagine people fapping to this as they experience their fantasies vicariously.

i can't blame them, but the author could have put in more effort to make this a GOOD wish fulfillment novel. But nah, it barely passes for a story.

antihero rpg / dungeon keeper type plot
BAD BAD art
kinda lame but doesn't fail to crack you up every time
MC is totally a "magnificent bastard" type
author delivers by teasing you into totally expecting something, then seemingly taking a different approach, but suddenly reversing into doing what you expected to begin with after all with some "sooooorry, didnt even wanna, but you douches gave me no choice~" comment from MC

A proper seinen manga

Positives of this manga:
Really good art. Girls are really cute.
Strong MC that is constantly evolving. This is what true hard work is, not the regular shounen bullshit.
MC shows excellent leadership skills. Like the hierarchy system he introduces combined with squads and jobs.
Like the fact that the MC has abolished the mistreatment of human females.
Liked the fact that he violently executed the goblin scum that attempted to rape the human females, to set an example.
As you can tell, I like the decisions the MC makes and how he conducts himself.

A lot of seinen series are just shouen masquerading as seien. i.e. typical shounen lead and scenarios combined with sex and violence to make it "seinen". This series is what I consider true seinen for older readers who do not have childish taste's.

Wish Fulfillment at it's Best

I haven't read the novel and have no plan to, so you won't see any details here other than that related to the manga itself.
This manga is at it's core wish-fulfillment, in that like previous mentions is what a rpg gamer wants out of his game. Slowly leveling up, gaining new abilities, fighting bigger and bigger monsters, getting the girls, interacting with npc's...you get the list, it's all here.

There seems to be a lot of confusion to the fame of this manga, and honestly its quite simple. Many people picture themselves as the protagonist and thus going through a journey in this heavily narrated tale is like doing it yourself. The story obviously won't go down as the next Romeo and Juliet, but it's simple and detailed enough to fully immerse yourself in the world.

This honestly breaks the mold in manga and novels (fantasy ones), with a gary sue like character. It's almost impossible to find a character that wins a battle because he just that good, it's always an ass pull, lame as training for a specific attack that he'll do that one time or sometimes when the author can't think of anything else: plot armour saves them.
One major problem though with these kind of characters (gary sue), is boredom - predictability. So far, it's just been setting the scene for the rise of the goblins, so we haven't encountered the problem yet, but when we do get to it, I'd like to see how it's dealt with.

I don't like calling people out, but the review by Immortal bear is filled with so much malice that I can't over look it.
1. The goblins are a weak race and any resemblance of strength comes from Rou (from formations to training)
2. Golbins don't gain powers by eating things, that's what makes Rou special
3. We have yet to see what Rou's backstory has to do with his current life, so we can't say it has nothing to do with the story
4. Rou is not a twisted character, he doesn't eat the flesh because he likes it, he does it out of necessity (he needs their powers). The parts where he ate the women that golbins rape is not shown, further showing the obvious disdain from the act the author and in extension Rou has for it
5. There have been no sex scenes of yet
6. I agree that so far some of the side characters are kind of 1-dimensional, but for every character you show that is one dimensional here I can show you 20 from a plethora of other mangas
7. It's kind of obvious that the girls would fall for him, he's just that strong, handsome and a great guy. I've seen shallower relationships form in real life, my mate and his perpetual need to swat away the amount of girls that are in love with him is testament to it

TL;DR if you don't understand why this appeals to such a large audience and rakes them in, then the human psyche isn't something you understand.
