This isn't a happy love story

This isn't a happy love story, and that's why I like it. The characters are seriously flawed and struggling with their desires. It's the story of how so many other BL mangas would continue, if they weren't confined to happy stories. This one is a fight for the happy ending, and there isn't even a guarantee of one.

This needs to be read after the prequel for it to provide the proper emotional impact, but it's a great palate cleanser after too many "nothing can go wrong (for long), love is easy" stories.

I stumbled upon this sequel and was intrigued by its high marks. I thought it was only right to read the prequel, The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese, beforehand. It was amazing! And since the sequel got an even better score I had very high expectations! It was all going well up until somewhere in the middle of the 3rd chapter… After that everything went downhill remarkably fast. Imagase changed completely.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
In the prequel Imagase saw a chance to be with the person he loved and ran with it, always knowing exactly what he wanted and he eventually succeeded in winning Kyouichi over. But in this installment he was unreasonably insecure and became f*ing hysterical blaming everyone but himself. After Kyouichi gave in and was content living the way he was and was actually in a functional relationship, WITH HIM, Imagase doubted every single sign of affection and reassurance from Kyou. Instead of being confident and content with all of Kyou’s doting he was a self-sabotaging, whiny little b*tch. One stupid text message made him go apes**t. It’s simply annoying the way he spent so much f*ing time declaring his undying love for Kyou and then so suddenly and irrationally changed his tune. What was the point of doing that? Was it a test to see if Kyouichi felt the same way? I mean it was painfully obvious he cared a lot about Imagase. He got exactly what he wanted; why put that in jeopardy? It’s absurd. Or was he trying to do the “right” thing and step aside? Wasn’t it a little too f*ing late for that? And he also ignored the fact that Kyou said she didn’t mean anything to him. He pushed away something he worked so hard to attain, for no reason whatsoever! So he left Kyou heartbroken and alone to lick his wounds, which gave whats her face a chance to move in; then finally realized he made a huge mistake and came back after Kyou developed feelings for the girl. It was so exasperating seeing Imagase play with the emotions of the person he would 'love till he died’ like that.
It’s like hunting an animal for food and after it’s at your mercy feeling bad for injuring it and you nurse it back to health; but when it’s all better and ready to go back to where it came from you end up realizing you still have nothing to eat and kill it. Utterly pointless.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Imagase can’t simply accept the fact that Kyou really loves him and finally be happy by his side? What’s all this about eventually getting bored of him and leaving him for some younger, cuter guy? Am I misunderstanding the definition of undying love or what?
RAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!

Imagase’s overly dramatic mood swings, extreme fickleness and overwhelming insecurity made my head hurt and left me wanting to destroy everything in sight. It’s the same goddamn indignation I felt when Edward left Bella, except this was far worse, lol. The last part of the story was so frustratingly bad,
Spoiler (highlight to view)
even if it did end with a “happy” ending, if it can even be called that;
it left and incredibly bad taste in my mouth. I’m so disappointed, bawww ;_;

Unfortunately not even awesome manlove or super hot gay butsecks could save this irritating I love you/ I love you not debacle.

Since the story crashed and burned I wanted to give it the lowest rating possible, but I initially enjoyed the flow of the story before it got out of control, so I’m guessing a below average score is only fair.

Next time I read it I’ll probably just skip everything I hated, maybe even rewriting it to my own liking. GOOD MANGA SHOULDN’T MAKE ME WANT TO DO THAT!

Couldn't really get into this one...

The prequel was pretty good because though there was some melodrama, the mangaka employed it quite well and thus, the conflicts, issues and other themes seemed meaningful and rather realistic.

In this title, it was like the characters became 100 times more melodramatic and bitchier than in the prequel. And to me, the things they were conflicting about, started to lose their meaning and purpose because the characters kept moving from 1 fight to another.

Sure, people fight and conflict all the time but to do it such an extent was really annoying. Both sides were just as stubborn and determined to have things their way, being unable and unwilling to see each others' viewpoints. Yes, they managed to call it a truce at the end of the manga but I really doubt such a couple would work out for long because they still seemed to have a lot of left-over grudges and problems that were left unresolved by the end. Furthermore, I am not very sure if they really acknowledged one another, or not.

In short, the whole story felt like a soap opera to me. The sex, I admit, was pretty hot but it didn't really make things any better.

Great sequel

This is a great sequel, that packs more of a punch, and emotional impact than the first story. It picks up right where the first one leaves off, but intelligently returns to expand on the unsolved problems buried beneath the happy feeling the first ended with. The story deals with some heavy issues, and there's a lot of arguments and more betrayal... but the feelings are stronger and more powerful to experience. This story goes across territory rarely covered in so much depth by a BL story, as things don't go entirely as we expect. But it's an amazing story, all the same.

I'd even love to read a third installment.. but that is surely me being greedy.

I loved the prequel a lot so I was really glad when I found this sequel. The sequel is simply amazing for the most part; it made the prequel even more meaningful and there were so many times when it made my heart hurt. Oh, the angst ♥

I especially love how this manga tries to keep things realistic and does a good job of showing character developments. You get to see just how these two have progressed and changed throughout the story due to various circumstances.

That said, I must say that the latter part of this story was somewhat of a disappointment. There were many times toward the end when Imagase got on my nerves and when I thought Kyouichi was acting way too irrational and out-of-character to fit with the overall flow of the story. I do like the ending, though, but I just wish that the last part wasn't so over-dramatic D:

I'm not a fan of drama yaoi (though I read many of them). BUT I can say this is one of my favorite yaoi manga! The story is really beautiful. it's realistic than any other yaoi manga that I've ever read. I love how kyouichi denying his sexual preference as a gay..no..bi! It's like I were reading a true story. I'm so sad and my heart feels so hurt whenever they are broke up just because some misunderstanding. yeah... Kyouichi always think that Imagase is only playing around with him when Imagase always think that Kyouichi always prefer woman beside him. A real case in gay life

One of the few manga that managed to make me cry (well, actually shed a few tears, not really cry).

I am easily drawn in by the emotional turmoil of characters and this was no exception. I found Kyouchi and Imagase's personalities and traits so powerfully displayed that I found myself caring and hurting for one as well as the other. Their pain and their struggle to understand, accept and include a difficult love in their life is so elaborately presented that it makes the story more than believable.. it makes it heart wrenching, sad and real. It's not a sugar coated fairy tale. It's a roller coaster of emotions, words and actions that, as in real life, sometime hurt. It might have a happy ending or it might not. It's life.

I don't think there are any manga that come close to this level or realism and depth of emotions. It has more than earned a 10+
