just a bit...

I agree with most that the art is beautiful (hurrah pretty boys) and the detailing is exquisite (almost even comparable to Princess background designs). The manga had a great start especially with the interesting plot elements (day/night class, vampires with special powers and such) but the storyline was often shaky and then it got WEIRD just as it became interesting: when Yuki found out about herself AND when Kaname's identity was revealed. It could've gone a different direction. Incest is just ... too "please don't go there".

There were already a lot of dark emotions and secrets already being thrown about in the story, I don't think something like brotherxsister love was needed. I was really looking forward to more than just a love triangle and was expecting a deeper character development or story development; and just maybe that is coming... hopefully. since Yuki *did* just recover her memory.

I love the art in this manga, and the way the "fighting" scenes were drawn were very good, not too pretty and not too much angst/violence. I would suggest reading this manga only after ALL of the chapters have been released because some may just end up frustrated at the pace or at the direction it is currently going. It's an OK read, not a great one at this point, the first few volumes might interest you but other than that... it's almost, ALMOST a typical shoujo story.

Read on for gorgeous Kaname and hot Zero smile

Good Shojo

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
At this point in time, I think I can safely say that almost all shojo has the same cliches and stereotypes: the wild one, the bad boy, the calm and mysterious one, and of course all the good looking ones in between. Even though the characters fit into the cookie cutter almost too well, this manga is a good read. It explores the depth of the stereotype, you might say.
Yuki (the main character) may be iffy some times in chosing the guy, but who can blame her? Feelings are feelings and you can't do anything about it. After going through what she did, of course that would happen.
As for the manga, Hino-sama (hehe) pays close attention to details. If you don't look closely, you can't appreciate this manga to its depths. Look not only at the characters but the surroundings and the detail placed into the architecture. Its simply amazing. And the guys? Simply to fall for!
But as usual, this is a shojo manga and a supernatural one up to boot; which means: suspension of disbelief! Don't get too caught up with something and forget the rest!

don't get me wrong i love VK but the past chapters is a little disappointing (chapter 50-51)...cause (spoiler alert!)
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I'm beggining to hate Yuki she's being selfish.. i have to agree with the other comments .. why can't she decide doesn't she already pick Kaname-sama. She's hurting Kaname -sama and Zero in the process. I'm a fan of Kaname but i rather her be with Zero than see Kaname hurt.

I generally agree with the post below, the balloon scene was as stupid for me, and yes yuuki IS selfish in the beginning. But the thing is, she doesn't know anything about herself and her past, therefore acts very frighten and unstable. If you don't know about your past you can't understand yourself and you'll be frighten within. This fear will lead to some unstable actions and might make you behave selfishly without you ever realizing it. So she doesn't actually know she is acting selfish.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
So in the end when she gets her memory back, and starts to understand her feelings, she behaves much more composed and confident with no longer selfish acting. She decides quickly and doesn't linger unnecessarily.

I think these feelings is actually what the author intended to show.

Horrendous. Contains true yet offensive material.

The pun is as awful as the manga. Actually the manga was slightly better than the anime which I watched for a few episodes after I read the manga.

I give it 3 points because...
1) It's well drawn.
2) It's not just a love triangle plot.
3) The story is interesting.

But let's leave the praise there. First off I have problems with almost everyone in the manga except for the side characters. Sure this manga is absolutely wonderful if logic doesn't apply to you. No I don't mean logic as in, obviously vampires don't exist, logic. Let's go with this and see how this seems really really odd...

Yuki is in love with Kaname, well not love per say but has a crush on. Zero loves Yuki and stalks her and follows her about though she never knows because she's an airhead. Okay... that makes sense... but this is when everything gets twisted. Kaname likes Yuki back and it's so apparent and obvious that she's either in denial and actually refuses any thought that he may like her because she secretly doesn't even like him that way (be it because her feelings aren't all that romantic or because he's a vampire).

Let's go with it is because he is a vampire. Now that doesn't make any sense does it because she has no problem siding with Zero over Kaname and here is Zero biting her to death and Kaname saving the day.

Is she an idiot? The mangaka tries to make her a very good and selfless person but at the same time she is the most selfish girl I have ever seen. She tramples on Kaname's feelings and she refuses to let Zero go even if she can't return his feelings because... she's selfish and doesn't want him to leave her side because she thinks he's too weak to even stand up by himself.

And the part where she is attacked by the vampire and drops her weapon out of fear. WHO DROPS THEIR WEAPON OUT OF FEAR?!?! HOW DOES THAT WORK?! I mean first off she was paranoid that vampires were out to get her. She sees a little kid who left his balloon behind and tries to return it to him. The little boy runs off without taking the balloon and she chases after him to give it to him.

Okay here is the author making her seem like a good person once again yet failing to do so because it makes no sense whatsoever.

First of all... the kid doesn't want the balloon back or else he would've taken it from you in the first place instead of running away. What makes you think that after chasing him down as he is trying to get away from you will make him want the balloon anymore than he did? In fact if he was a normal little boy he would've been scared out of his right mind.

Second of all if you were so freaked out by vampires one second ago how stupid are you to go running off into deserted alleys like that?

Though Kaname is very pretty, don't get me wrong... he is one creepy guy. The guy is practically moaning her name as he watches her from his window. Not to mention the whole... incest thing.

Zero... OH ZERO... Yes he has every right to be the angriest SOB in the world... but his attempts to Yuki are really pathetic. Everyone here is squealing at his anguish and his desperation for Yuki but let's face the facts here... in real life this is the worst scenario ever because the girl never freaking even knows he's suffering for her. Doesn't that totally defeat the purpose of the suffering bishie?

And finally the worst for last Yuki. The girl who can't has everything all messed up and backwards. Logic has no place in her mind so the only thing that's in her mind is whatever people have said to her and perhaps random flashbacks of the snowy night every five seconds and feeling bad for Zero. Yeah we know you feel bad for Zero, you would be one heartless person if you didn't feel bad for that. I feel like a good portion of the beginning focused on her feeling bad for Zero... and maybe SOMETIMES... you know the guy she likes Kaname, maybe sometime for five minutes during the evening her heart will race for half a panel as she sees him.

Hopeless... I really couldn't read it anymore. Yuki fails as a Mary-Sue. You think she's capable but... no... let's not go over that part again.

The author needs to actually go outside and get a life and see how people actually interact and how the human mind actually works.

However if you really force yourself not to think about the inconsistencies and Yuki's dry dishrag of a personality I'm sure it can be an enjoyable manga with only the bishies, love triangle and dark vampire plots.

However... a normal person who knows something about actual people (and I hope I would know since I'm a Psychology Sociology Major) would find this so confusing and irritating that it can no longer be read.

i share the same feelings with yuzuru.

i really like the start of the series but i cannot fathom the incest happening here. sorry. this is really not my kind of thing.

i'm not dropping this manga since i'm almost there (yes, i barely made it up to the latest chapter) but one thing's for sure, i'm not as excited as before whenever a new chapter is out.

Lovely storyline

I really enjoy the dark storyline and the fact that the plot is not completely centered around romance. There is a lot more going on in the background besides a simple love triangle. Near the middle chapters, it gets really confusing, but it gets clearer and better later. I much prefer a slightly confusing story than one in which everything is laid out in a simple and linear manner.

I think the art is beautiful and seems a bit at odds to the dark story since her drawing is kind of bubbly. But after a little bit, it feels normal, and I couldn't imagine it any other way!

Im ready for this manga to be over. its getting too long and I'm getting bored. not because its boring, its just not exciting. It seems like the author wants to keep going just because he or she doesnt know what to do with the characters yet rather than there actually being a plan,

Uggghhh...The idea of a Day/Night class and the vampires was quite interesting. It could have been such a good story but...MEH.Cliché,shallow typical characters, uninteresting and unoriginal plot and generally this manga takes itself more seriously than it should...>.>If it weren't for the good artwork i wouldn't have stood to read till ch49(i'm still wondering how i made it).I won't drop it though.I'm curious of what kind of stupid oh-so-dramatic ending it will have...Vampire Knight is just the lulz....

I'd only recommend this only for those who don't mind anything else if the art is good.
