completely agree with him/her. At first, this serie was good. But it's getting abit "lame". besides the fact that the art is nice, i can't seem to see the real plot of this manga. It's getting me nowhere now.... Very disappointed. I can feel this will be a quite long manga. I'll wait to see if it's getting any better and any better plot than at this moment. Without "fights to alive" plot at this moment, this manga really doesn't give much impression anymore.

This series was good at first. However, after several volumes I've came to realize that the characters in the series have no deep characteristic, they seem hollow to me. Yuuki is extremely indecisive, Zero is simply full of depression, basically no decent characteristic

The art is beautiful, yet as the series continues until recently updated chapters, I have a feeling that it has deteriorated to some point.

The most disappointing part is the holes in the storyline. It gives me an impression that the author has no fixed ending to the series and just writes anything to end the series.

Kudos to the beautiful art though.

edit: It's been years and I finally read the ending. I'd say it's still disappointing, and deteriorated right to the end. The author, in my opinion, tried to salvage the disappointment by tying loose ends at the end of the story, but to me, it is still a series with no well-thought characters.

A Vamptastic Love Story!

Great series; i don't think it's overrated at all. Not enough to keep you addicted from the start though. Quite boring and too average at the beginning. But as the story goes on, it gets twisted and very interesting. The heroine is VERY indecisive in my opinion. Of course she cares for both guys greatly, but seriously. It sort of pisses me off. The art is great! I love it! biggrin The romance is awesome also. I love vampires and was expecting a -heart-quenching love story, and that's exactly what i got. And, btw, Zero is hawtt!!! XD

Anticipating the next chapter eagerly.

Let me start by saying, I enjoy story and character way above art. I didn't actually want to read this manga for a while, because I didn't like the art, but I'm glad I got over that.

I love a good heroine and I'm always on the lookout for good stories with good heroines. Yuuki starts off as an extremely average character, her nuances in the beginning are irritating, but the mangaka has taken the time to show her complexities and demonstrate why Yuuki is so indecisive, its rare to understand why a character is the way she is. Even better, the character gets over her obstacles and really begins to grow, she has slowly become one of my favourite manga females and I look forward to future growth from her.

The story has plenty of depth and subtleties for those who are willing to understand it. A warning for those who are looking for romance, even though this manga is mainly about relationships, the romance story is very slow and carefully developed and often takes a backseat to the plot.

I did have a hard time initially telling some of the characters artistically apart, but it does become pretty easy once you become used to the artist's style. I've since come to really like the art in this.

The story is very complex, there are subtleties all over the place, don't make the mistake of taking it at face value, because you'll probably only get confused and misunderstand what's going on. Do reread the story and you'll get a better understanding and appreciation. You cannot read a chapter just once, especially from chapter 35 onwards.

@asianromance - Zero & Yuuki are 1st years, the questions about the nightclass don't have any stated facts, but there are easy speculative answers to those questions.

I love vampire knight and I dont think its overrated at all, it has a plot and its getting more and more complicated which is I think one of the manga strong points, because its more than typical shoujo which you can figure out the ending from first few pages, most people complain about how shoujo manga has the same plot...now this is something different, but they still complain...

anyway I think why many got confused while reading the manga is because the slow releases. I am not saying its anybody is fault but thats excpected hence the manga is still ongoing... at first I was confused too and there were many things I didnt understand, but when I went back and read the manga from start to now all together I understood things perfectly, so try do that, it might help...

Great manga, could be better

I am usually against vampire stories-especially ones with romantic overtones- like ew, who wants to be a 2000 year old guy who has fangs, right? The art is gorgeous (yes, since a lot of side characters look the same, it took around 2 volumes before I knew who was who) and the story is also riveting: nothing is revealed all at once and you often feel that there is more to be said-and there usually is!- revealed in later chapters. The characters aren't as lovable as characters in other manga: they almost never go into SD mode and have personalities that range from cold to flat. Unlike one person said- i think this is a plot-drivened manga rather than a character one. So in a way, it has a more shounen feel than a shoujo feel.

Others have said that the heroine is indecisive. I don't think this is true. Yes, if you look at this manga as purely a vampire romance and that there is a heavily defined love-triangle between Yuuki, Zero, and Kaname, then she can be viewed as such. But it more than just a romance. I think Yuuki just really cares for both guys (as in caring for their well-being rather than 'omg, my heart goes doki doki every time i see him') with some romantic inclinations toward Kaname. She feels bonded to the two guys-one who grows up with her these past 4 years as a brother (and whom she has been with when he was deeply troubled) and the other who has always been there for her. The story isn't about her choosing between two guys- it's about dealing with these negative forces. Personally, I like Zero better but I doubt she ends up with him- i hope he manages to find a nice girl too. =)

and there are a few troubling holes in the whole world-creation aspect of the manga: like what grade are they in ? what is the aging process for vampires? Won't the Day/Human students notice if some of the Night students never graduate?

I love this manga, it's interesting and has great art. I simply love Hino Matsuri's drawing style XD

I'd say anyone who likes a good shojo, and smexy bishies, should read this. the plot twists are great, the art fantastic, and the main characters are really interesting (especially the second time round).

The only thing is the plot line is a little confusing. I found that i'd got really confused at about chapter 39, so i went back and reread the whole series, thinking I'd missed a chapter somewhere. Turns out I hadn't, but it made so much more sense to me the second time round.

So if you found you weren't too into it, stick with it. It's worth it.

Vampire Knight

I think the only good thing about this manga is it's art. Although, I find myself unable to tell the difference between a number of the characters, especially the males. If it wasn't for the anime I still wouldn't be able to tell who was Ichijou -.- Besides that the plot is really slow and sometimes appears to go nowhere.

The characters aren't very well characterised. The heroine is extremely indecisive. For all the martial arts and self defence she knows she still needs to be saved every time she's in a bind. She's also extremely indecisive, a trait I really hate in shoujo heroines, - one minute she's all for Kaname the next ít's Zero. The guys aren't all that hot either. Zero is just an angst-ridden mess. The only interesting character is Kaname. Some people may think he's creepy, but I think his mysteriousness is what saves this manga from being terribly boring.
