Unraveled messy plot
by PJ1

This was the first manga that really hooked me. I loved the spunky, outspoken Yuuki. I was obsessed over Zero, the ultimate and greatest tsundere to ever be drawn on paper. Kaname was appealingly ambiguous. I was enjoying this story... words could not describe it.

Then Yuuki's mysterious past is revealed,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
her parentage and her vampirism. She transforms not only physically (longer hair), but her personality as well. From being a "guardian" known to defend herself and fight besides Zero... Yuuki becomes a Kuran princess. Her personality was sucked dry at this point in the manga. Any inner-monologue she has is dedicated in love with Kaname (her older brother!) and their romantic relationship.
She became the stereotypical, silent, powerless shoujo heroine who can only sigh and blush when the super popular, handsome and rich hero shows up to make out.

But, I still continued on reading. If you're a fan of something, you usually keep up with it during sucky points. I was positive it was just a bad arc and things would pick up again.

So I waited... and waited... The plot became even more convoluted. Let's kill purebloods, let's work for purebloods, let's kill Kaname, Kaname will kill all the purebloods.

Just... a MESS. I don't know how this went from being my favorite manga to being totally headache inducing.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The heroine is lame, her love interests are an emo boy and her possessive ancient brother.
The storyline does not come close to making sense. Well, there's the art! The art gets better and better.

It's Losing Its Specialness

I loved this manga to death. LOVED. It was my first manga series ever, but Hino has created a tragedy to all Vampire Knight fans.

The Plot
The plot at the beginning was pretty damn good. It had the right amount of suspense and mystery and the romance was developing not to fast but a little slow, which was great. There was action and scenes that made me blush. *Oh those Zeki Scenes* However, and I'm very certain that everyone will agree with me here, everything went downhill when
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Yuuki, the vampire gal, went to live with her brother, Kaname

After that some mysteries were cleared up, other mysteries were brought up and the manga told me things that I shouldn't and didn't even want to know. It was a bunch of irrelevant information. Nothing interesting happened between I think Chapters 40 to Chapter 60 or 70. Except
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
They had that ball, an event that had so much potential, but even then nothing interesting happened.

Then when things start to pick up when
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Yuuki started the Night Class again
but it was just confusing and I had to reread some chapters just to understand what was going on and who did what.
It then began to get interesting when
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
they had that ball and Zero and Yuuki kissed
I loved that chapter so much.
Then IT happened, it changed EVERYTHING
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Yuuki erased Zero's memory of her and was 'deflowered' by Kaname
in Chapter 89. I know a lot of people loved it or hated it, like me, because I'm a fan of Zeki.

It's picking up now, but it's still kinda boring and confusing.

The Characters
Yuuki, used to be my favourite shoujo lead, but her actions just disappoint me now. Before she was all confident and brave, protecting the ones she loved and you would think when
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
she turned into a vampire
she would only get more stronger, right? WRONG. She becomes a too dependant on Kaname and on other vampires. I also hate how she complicates things for herself, especially with the Kaname and Zero feels.

Kaname was the perfect and ideal guy in the beginning, who hid a lot of secrets. However as the story progressed he got darker and more sinister and my image of this sweet and kind guy disappeared. I grown to hate him so much. In my opinion
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
he abandoned Yuuki
which is just sad. I can't really complain about him though, he keeps the story interesting I guess...

Zero, I love you so much. He's the types of characters you just feel sorry for all the time because nothing good ever happens to him. He's emo-like and very sad but uber sexy at the same time. He''s strong and determined that's for sure, telling Yuuki
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
that the next time he sees her he will kill her after she turns into a vampire
I ship ZeroxYuuki deal with it.

Other than that there weren't really any memorable characters other than the Chairman, who let's admit it is only there for comedic relief.

The Art
The art was superbly beautiful in the beginning but then Hino got lazy and in recent chapters, her art isn't as detailed and the characters lack any type of emotion, but nevertheless it's still good, it's just that it's not as great as it used to be.

Overall
This manga has gone downhill which really upsets me ;(
It doesn't have that feeling any more, that feeling when you get when you read each chapter.
I recommend this to shoujo lovers and people willing to skip a few boring chapters. ZEKI FOREVER!

Getting ridiculous

The art is pretty, but as someone mentioned earlier, all the expressions are wooden. It almost seems like the mangaka doesn't draw them in favour of the 'prettiness' in the faces. And yes, as many have mentioned, the plot is dragging on. But now that we've entered the final phase of the storyline, it seems like she's going to make it extra angsty by creating more depressing events. And by this point, the worst way to end this is to give it a happy ending. I'd say Merupuri has a much tighter and consolidated plotline than this. It's like the mangaka has gone off on a tangent and went vacationing in the Bahamas and decided to get back on track now.

Truly Disappointed

I used to love this manga, really. It's the manga that started me getting into reading more shoujo. Now it's been a really~ long time since it first started and honestly, it's just fallen straight down. It used to be a really interesting, exciting manga that kept you wanting for more but now it's just overly complex, cliche-ridden, and stupidly mysterious. I kept thinking the story will pick up even after the plot got all emo and sappy but I was let down. I just couldn't bring myself to read anymore of this after around chapter 50. I am so disappointed at how the author has let Vampire Knight fall so far below standards. Maybe i am being a bit harsh on VK, but that's because it used to be my favorite shoujo of all time. I might try to read it from chapter 1 when it's completed but before then, I'm not going to even look at this manga anymore. Ugh, disgusted.

Yes. this is one of the best vampire stories out their. It's nothing so simple as girl falls in love with a vampire. It's the plot twists that get you. the genuine love triangle that exists between Kaname/Yuuki/Zero. Great read.

Hate it

I used to read this because of Zero and Kaname.. and yuki.. I HATE her..
the plot stopped sparkling and is going on and on with nothing really interesting..

For zero, he is acting like an emo-ish bitch :\ seriously, he was my fave character, UNTIL he fell in love with yuki.. then he acts all dramatic.. i mean, if you love the girl, TELL HER! because of his.. idk.. shyness?, he lost yuuki.. frankly, all zero x yuki fans out there, should blame zero for everything.

for kaname, he's like usual.. doing things as he pleases.. and the author doesn't even bother telling us wth he is doing.. until he made a big stock of unsolved mysteries.

for Yuki.. well i never liked her.. She is so annoying, always 'hihi haha' here and there and meddling into other people's business without permission..
she is annoying, shallow and flat :\ nothing special about her.. she pushes her kindness into others so that people like her..
Then WTH is this joke?? she is kaname's sister and on top of that, she is a PUREBLOOD vampireconfused? The hell?
Why everything happens to her? she's the main character, so what? it doesn't mean she is only girl in the whole story. i mean it, EVERY EFFING THING happens to her! is this becoming another Pokemon or what? Stop this joke, please!

most girls at my place like this, mainly because of the HOT guys.. the drawing is there just to make us fall for it... because girls keep reading it because of the hot guys even though it's the worst manga ever.. a good trap, isn't it? sorry but i won't fall for it.

the only characters i like in this is:
Rima toya and Shiki smile the only likeable characters i found.

well, good luck with this manga.. it turned pretty bad. Better end it soon.
1/10.. not recommended.. unless you like annoying female characters.

My Main Issue...

Despite all the glaring idiocy in the story of Vampire Knight... I have another big issue with this series. The art. Now, now, before you start trying to tear my throat out and telling me how I'm wrong, I'm going to tell you, I'm not.
Mangakas are story tellers and artists, mangas are meant to tell a story through their art. And in mangas where the art tells the story, you will know exactly then how good the mangaka is. You can't say that for Vampire Knight, not at all. Looking at the drawings will get you NOWHERE in this series. It does nothing to improve or enhance the story or characters, you don't even have to look at it to understand the story at all.
The characters lack face expressions, and no, I don't mean slight movements of the eyebrows to show how serious they are as an expression, I mean actual big emotions. And the fact that they are vampires is not an excuse. Sometimes people say that since the series has been going on for so long the art declines, but that is not an excuse, the art was never brilliant to begin with but it's been getting worse, and it's not as if the mangaka has another series going on and hell, if you've been drawing the same thing for years, sure you can get sick of it, but you should be able to draw your characters with your eyes closed. Well that's enough about that....
To all you dedicated fans, good for you, you like this series and stick with it. As for me, I've read this series long ago too and I've only been given pages of disappointment.

Alright I had read all the chapters of vampire knight and now I can actually rate it. Ahem first the beginning was amazing and epic but that ended around chapter 10 but still around the more chapters there were some that actually were good. I always love vampire knight but now my love for it been cut in half due to the ending it was sweet but not the best ending and mostly not the ending almost all of us wanted. Trust me I would have wanted another ending. Still I would say this I can't complain since mi favorite paring got together but still hurts since one person was left alone not telling who. I can't say that you guys shouldn't read this because maybe you guys can like it. In collision my rate for this will have to
(7.9)
No that high it would have been lower but I will have to sum everything up. Guys just don't reate the ending okay anyway glad the manga is done and wish that my left out question could be answer.
Thanks Hino-sensei for you're hard work in Vampire Knight. I hope to read your next work and this time it won't want me to kill mi self after every chapter lol
