For people who say this is abusive relationship because of that dog thing maybe didn't read beyond that. Kyoya treat her like a dog BEFORE they date. If I try to defend Kyoya, then I will say he loves dog. And he clearly doesn't know how to treat other people.

What's the most important is, will Kyouya change? YES, a lot. That's character development. Kyoya NEVER affect her pyshical and psychological condition negatively, vice versa when they date each other. That's what usually happen in abusive relationship but I never see it happen here. They are flawed but they know each other really well that they can see each other through their flaw that many people fail to see. He is also surrounded with friend who understand him. Other than relationship with Erika, I also like to see his friendship with the others.

The thing is, Kyoya has difficulity to show affection to someone else most likely because most of the time he is alone. I think his sister who often slap and bully him also have influence to develop his character like that. Even if he has friend, his friend never show affection like how someone do to their family or loved one, so he often show how he is confused what to do to Erika. Then he usually observe and take advice from his friend. From this he learn and become gentler and initiate many things to make her happy even if he doesn't like it. Erika is also develop from someone who often push her idealism to Kyoya (Ex: She want to flirt in public, but it makes Kyoya uncomfortable) but she change to be more considerate. Both of them compromise really well. They never push their partner limit and their power also balance. Kyoya speak harsh even now, he doesn't like sweet talking so he is harsh when he said his opinion but everytime Erika doesn't agree what Kyoya said, she will speak up and he will compromise. One example,

Even if both of them change, we can see deep inside they are the same person. Both of them show it especially when they are angry or anxious, there is one time when Kyoya ever said Erika is a bitch and also one time when he bring her to his house he was kissed by someone else. But later on they will realize they are wrong when they calm down. Well, human is like that. Even if we change to be better person, our core personality is the same, we can only lower our bad side, it can't completely disappear.

What's so unhealthy about that? I am wondering why people think this is unhealthy. But I agree maybe some people can't really see their relationship as healthy because they start that way but that's what we call character development. For me, to see a character with personality as bad as Kyoya to slowly change through their relationship is really enjoyable. I actually read this when I was in middle school long ago and it helps me learn how to compromise.

Honestly, this one isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea for reasons that I totally understand, but I have reread this one so many times and still love it, and here’s why.

We start off meeting Kyouya, and he is harsh and mean towards Erika, he claims to dislike people and only like dogs (which honestly.. can’t blame him for that one.) so he agrees to be erikas fake boyfriend if she’ll be his “dog”.

Kind of seems like a a-hole, doesn’t he? Absolutely. But his attitude slightly changes towards Erika and she falls fast and hard, in a typical shoujo kind of way.

What I like about it though is how we watch their relationship develop, and how everyone who was in Kyouyas life before Erika starts to see a softer side to him. Through different events in the manga you start to see how he truly loves her and the way they try to meet each other in the middle.

It's pretty confusing to read the manga, I still cant desipher why the main characters act the way they do in the manga, yeah some parts are interesting but there are scenes that appear to be too stupid to be fun reading. Kyouya and Erika do everything in a very unrealistic way, maybe it's because they are in a growing process? (teens) . But still the ending left me a bit unsatisfied but still, the manga was very interesting, if you are interested in the manga, you should read some 10 chapters or more and see if you like it or not

I was very conflicted about this manga after finishing it. Don’t think it’s the kind that will appeal to everyone. Both main leads are flawed (you will find yourself disagreeing with a lot of things they do) and immature. The main leads are exaggerated extremes at the two ends of opposite personalities. The relationship also starts very early in the manga so if you’re looking for a slow burn crush to relationship manga, don’t read this one.

Stepping back and looking at this as a story of two young and immature teenagers trying to make a relationship work. I feel like the manga did a great job touching on almost all the beats that come with growing up together in a relationship. Most shoujo I’ve read end with the kiss, but this one starts with a kiss and delves into the struggles in a relationship after it begins. I like that given this, the story explores more mature themes of attraction without crossing a line. I’ve experienced growing up in a relationship and I think Ookami Shoujo did well conveying what it can be like.

Despite what praise I can give this manga, there were some chapters that were hard to get through. There was one chapter where I do not think a relationship like this would function in real life nor would I condone one like this in real life, given how actually cruel to her that Kyouya is for most of their written relationship.

One thing that also bothered me is that

I see Erika getting a lot of hate for being clingy and annoying, but I think it’s important to remember she’s a teenager and I think the author did well giving her genuine flaws that she works on as the series progresses. She starts out taking a mile whenever Kyouya gives her an inch, but learns to bring it down a notch. It is hard to watch at times, yes. Teenagers, especially those in their first real relationships, are going to do a lot of cringey things. Once you get older, look back on your teenage years, even from your early 20s, and you’ll probably cringe too. You will change a lot very quickly in these years. I’m 22 and I was still doing dumb stuff at 21, probably going to feel the same next year. Erika learns to come down to Kyouya’s level and Kyouya works to come up to Erika’s level until they find their happy middles. This is a constant theme in the manga.

Overall, if you like a distant (and somewhat mean) male lead, don't mind that the relationship establishes early, and don't mind the female lead embarrassing herself a lot, I think this is a decent read. If you can look beyond the surface and read into the themes of growing up, I think you will find it a lot more enjoyable.

Okay, so the relationship might be like a “I order you” and it does but it’s fiction, he doesn’t do anything sexual, he doesn’t bully her in front of others and if you feel like it’s not okay trust me
It just finishes in a few chapters, I honestly like the story, the guy changes a lot, is not that he is a suffered hero or something like that, he just doesn’t like lovely things, it doesn’t have the typical problems and honestly if it does have it the female lead doesn’t go with what their friends say, honestly the main characters doesn’t treat other girls like anything special and he is well aware that he will stay with her forever and in fact I would say that it doesn’t have love triangles, it surprised me. Also she has good friends and the side characters are great, she trusts him and he trusts her. It’s a nice story, I mean for being a shoujo is good.

If this were a healthy S&M relationship, there would be rules, mutual understanding/consent before beginning, safewords, boundaries, etc. This is not, in fact, a S&M relationship, so there's even less excuse for the way he treats her, and the way she is expected to respond.

This is somehow supposed to be light shoujo, an example of a cute, young adult romance. And yet he treats her like a dog? She responds with 'doki-doki'? He refuses to confirm any feelings for her as a sign of 'manliness' while her self worth fractures under his ego??

He refuses to treat her decently, while she (and the readers) are supposed to believe anything he does that qualifies as decent is a sign of his love and affection. It's like Lite Abuse, with the way she is always hungrily consuming his heaping, damaging BS in exchange for tiny morsels of Decency.

The mangaka is constantly glossing over what this would do to a normal teenage girl's self worth and confidence. How a relationship like this would actually chip away at someone. How it could destroy someone.

The paper thin excuse of 'this is a cute shoujo' is contradicted by the darker undertones in their relationship, & does not function properly as a cheerful veneer for the pro-abuse material.

Just. No. Don't read this. Unless you're pairing it with Twilight and Fifty Shades as examples of abusive relationships targetted at (younger) female audiences. Smfh.

I remember picking up this manga a few years ago when I had nothing else to do. At that point, only the first 20 or so chapters were scanlated. Just the first few chapters were enough to put me off, though. I dropped it faster than you can say ookami.

I don't know what made me pick it up again yesterday (after years of avoiding it). I am glad that I did. The manga became a whole lot better after the first two volumes. The male lead tones down a lot and their relationahip becomes a whole lot healthier. Some reviewers seem to have had a problem with the female lead, and I admit that she is your typical common girl, yet, her portrayal is refreshing.

What I liked about the manga is the development in their relationship over the volumes. It progresses and matures gradually and is aided by all that's happening in their friends' lives. There is a realistic element in there. Both the leads are willing to confront each other when the other is in the wrong and they are able to talk through it and move forward. Call me idealistic, but maybe this is exactly why I read shoujo xD

Overall, this is a refreshing read and one that I would recommend to any shoujo fan.

Okay, ladies. Wth? I am soooooo f annoyed with the set up of their relationship. I think i picked this up about 2 years ago, and dropped it bc of their ridiculous relationship. And I picked this up around months ago, (had zerooo idea that i dropped this) and remembered when the guy was ordering the girl to act like a f dog. What the h?
And there was this part wherein the guy wants to do "it" and the girl doesn't want to, he told her that she isn't in the position to bargain (they didn't do it in the end tho bc it's her time of the month) WHO. THE. F. DOES. THAT.

I hope this doesn't happen in real life ugh.

So another manga has been completed. Much happened in those chapters and at the end,
As always im sad that another good manga is finished (i watched the anime and live action movie too ofc), i wish it would have been a bit longer, coz i loved them as adults~ anyway im looking forward to more nice manga from this mangaka.

I dropped this series a while ago and just checked back on it today. I forgot how bland this series was.
The story was decent and somewhat interesting for a bit. But it loses it's point and you'll find yourself wondering where it's headed, not in a good way but in a 'what in the world is this mess?' way.
Then what is left is the characters and art. The female protagonist is just not lovable at all, her character is boring and no charms whatsoever. Bland. The male protagonist is pretty attractive and interesting but it goes downhill as time passed. The other characters feel like a prop. The art (which is basically the only merit left to this manga) just flops. I really enjoyed the art in the beginning, I really did. But the art changes pretty drastically over this series, if you compare the 1st volume to the latest ones you would hardly recognize that Kyouya is Kyouya of later volumes.
