Falling in Love again!

I was reading this series since highschool and i was always up to date with the chapters until i got into college and reading manga just didn't fit into my schedule. But recently I have more time to get back in mangas and i decided to catch up on Skip beat it again since it caught my eye (i have the first 3 volumes). I TOTALLY FORGOT WHAT I WAS MISSING OUT ON!!! Well at first when i tried to get back into reading Skip beat i was very reluctant because I remember losing interest and forgetting where i left off. So I decided to start all over with this manga and I JUST COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. I forgot how awesome Nakamaru's story telling and character development is. Though its very silly and strange at times and despite the fact that series has gone on for so long, its such an interesting read and one of my favorite mangas of all times. I recommend reading all the chapters all up to the recent chapter to get a better feel for the book. You might think "really? Starting over and reading 200 chapters to understand the manga completely is dumb" but i guarantee you, as you are reading, you wont' realize that the manga is so lengthy ^^

I put this off for awhile because the updates were pretty slow and I was also starting to lose a bit of interest in it, but just a moment ago, I decided to pick it up again.. I REGRET NOT FOLLOWING IT SO MUCH. After many, many, many chapters, there is finally some more drastic developments between Kyoko and Ren and it had me squirming around like a fish out of water. I seriously had to gasp for air. I'm dying to know what happens after!

I've been in love with this manga since the first chapter and I really do love how the characters relationships between one another grew, but like one of the comments previously stated, it was becoming repetitive. I'm glad that it became more meaningful this time in Cain siblings arc. Before, it felt like Nakamura was just trolling us all by pulling Kyoko back to her original mindset instead of her finally realizing her love for Ren. But then again, I guess it just shows how hurt and unwilling Kyoko is towards love. Otherwise she wouldn't be Love Me's #1 member lol.

My First Love

This was the first manga I ever bought. EVER. I knew nothing about the series. I was in 5th grade and it had just come out in America. Ever since then, Kyoko stole my heart away.
Now I'm going to graduate high school and enter college. So I thought why not do a review of my favorite series before the new year starts. I felt it was time because I've been watching and reading the comments here. I've always wanted to put up one of my own. So here it is.
If I were to describe the story to you, I couldn't. It's too complicated and I won't do it justice. I think you'd have to read it yourself in order to really get the story. All the little bits, the cliff hangers, how silly Kyoko can be, Ren restraining himself, Shou meddling in Kyoko's affairs all contribute to how much I love this series. You get sucked up in Kyoko's pace as she tries to get her revenge on Shotaro. But as time passes the manga delves less and less on her revenge and more and more onto her and Ren. Kyoko does mature slightly and you can see her growth as an actor but she's still good ol Kyoko. (But now I believe everyone is reading Skip Beat to see her development with Ren LOL Good stuff, good stuff) It's the type of story that makes you yell out in anger and laugh so much til you cry. You really get involved in Kyoko's story as you look forward to each release because you cannot not love Kyoko. Sure she can be out of her mind sometimes. A little bit loony, a little bit goofy, but with good insight. She’s just awesome.
I’ve read this manga more times than I could count. You can read Skip Beat over and over and over again and never be bored. I always find myself coming back every couple of months to reread the entire story mainly because Skip Beat cleanses my soul. (Reading a lot of shoujo requires that you cleanse your soul of all the sickening sweetness)
Although I know Skip Beat has been dragging on for about a year, I honestly wouldn’t want the releases to come out quicker. Skip beat has been such an important part of my life, I don’t think I could stand it if it ends. It’ll leave a big gaping hole in my life. (Well okay I want more chapters but I feel the more chapters released bringing us close to an end. Well actually I don’t see it ending anytime soon but I’m getting anxious) I probably will never love any manga as much as this one.

Too long

This story is honestly getting on my nerves.
I have been a fan of it since the first time it was published in my country, but it's just so hard to keep up with it. I honestly love the characters and I even feel that the plot is finally going in the right direction, but for someone like me who has been reading every monthly update it's unbelievably tiring.
I just recently decided to decrease my rating.

To anybody out there interested in the manga. It is indeed incredibly funny and beautiful. However do yourself a favour and wait till the manga is finished (if it ever will be). I can already see this being the companion piece to the everlasting story of Detective Conan/Case Closed. Just in case the mangaka tries to make it into a second never-ending story amuse yourself with a different manga before starting this one. Otherwise you will be dragged into this painful stagnation relying on monthly updates that wont keep you satisfied in the least!

As I mentioned before. I strongly believe that this manga has great potential at becoming an all-time shojo favorite. It has already been said how original the plot is and I can definitely vouch for that being the case. The art might need some getting used to what with all the weird proportions, but even manga like Dragon Ball and One Piece have an artstyle that might not strike everyones fancy and have become popular to boot!

To sum this up.
For those of you interested in starting this manga: Wait a while. It looks indeed as though we wont have to wait long for it to reach its climax and then it will be an absolutely enjoyable read.
For those who already started and are stuck in limbo: I'm with you all the way

The Story is good, but...

I like Skip Beat, but the ART! I can't stand the art. Kyoko can change her appearance at will, and the shape of her eyes even change. All the dudes seem to have the same facial shape and broad shoulders, EVERYBODY has tiny heads and really long legs.
This manga is ten years old, and barely any development, and honestly, it drags on for far too long.
I don't even know why I gave it such a good rating. I suppose I just like it for absolutely no reason.

Surprisingly Amazingly Good

I wasn't so sure at first, because the art started out with all the guys having weird too-long faces and I was expecting just another shoujo manga with a shy ditzy heroine who wanted to be a star and worked really hard at it and didn't have too much depth. Well I was wrong. The art got beautiful and instead of an annoying main character who falls in love easily and cries too often (not that that's a bad thing, it's just been done too many times) I find she's actually kind of... scary. And unexpectedly devious, while at the same time, being sweet and innocent and full of heart enough to still be lovable. Don't know how that's possible, but you kind of lover her more because of her evil vengeful side that doesn't back down from a gritty fight to the death. Besides, her inner demons are adorable. She's got to be the most interesting, changeable main heroine I've read. She's aspiring to be an actress (strictly for a very roundabout sort of revenge at first) so she gets to put on a dozen different personalities and looks and all of them really suit her in different ways. It's fun (and hilarious) to watch her grow and learn and sparkle and freak out and melt and send out blasts of dark energy and pin terrified people down with her invisible little demons, which seem to be more real than just figments of her imagination. She's enamored with both sparkly fairy tales and the realistic self-made voodoo dolls that she crushes under her feet or talks to for advice. In short, she's a little crazy, a little naive, and very determined. And you have to laugh and love her for it.

As for the rest of the characters, they've also got a lot of different angles to them. The evil ones of course often turn out to be just people with problems and selfish desires who might really be okay if they're dealt with the right way, and Kyokou seems to have a talent for that as well as acting. They've got histories (especially Ren, who gets more and more interesting the more you don't learn about him) and feelings but it's not so wishy washy that you get bored and tired of sob stories. They're all different and react differently to Kyokou for different reasons, and at the end of their stories there's usually that warm fuzzy feeling of happiness.

As for the romance, that may be more typical, but still sweet and slightly frustrating (woot for love triangles and such) and I'm ever eager for developement.

Over all, an awesome series!

Now i am hook on to this manga and couldn't wait every month to read the next chapter.

Yes, the infrequent releases and the short chapters are frustrating - but otherwise, this manga is just about perfect.

I see a lot of complaints about the most recent arc dragging on, being repetitive, and so on. I can understand that viewpoint, but I really don't agree. Ren has such a traumatic past that he has lived in a false persona for years, refusing to allow his true self any say. Even before taking on the character of 'Ren Tsuruga' he was unhappy and troubled. If the mangaka had been the type that would have resolved all that easily, she would not be anywhere near as good as she is.

The characters are real, and funny, quirky, likable.

The story and plot may seem slow, but I personally think that is partly because the manga is so addictive - when you go back and read the volumes again, what took so long when reading each chapter as it came out (think the dark moon arc) actually doesn't take that long to get through.

The art is fine to me - it improves drastically as the years pass. What the the manga lacks in beautiful art, it gains in characterization.
