A young man comes to Tokyo to become a poet (he actually composes a lot through the book!). But one can not support himself with poetry, so the hero works for a half-legal firm running all possible errands. In the process he meets a lot of people, both men and women, who are strangely interested not in his rhymes, but in his ...body! Absolutely lovely tragicomedy.

Ok, so Rendou Aida wants to be a poet, but the ending left on such a sucky note. He has casual sex with almost everyone and the actual yaoi bits aren't even sexy.
The art is gorgeous though. Takaguchi's inking is smooth and gentle and her panels are awesome.

I had absolutely no idea what this was about. I thought it was going to be beautiful story of how he makes a career out of poems but... I wish?
Shortly, the art is good, plot is bad and it looks like it's ongoing when it isn't.

Okay, I was expecting a little more from Poet. I was looking forward to a well-written plot and deeply-developed characters perhaps a few nice josei philosophical musings. I was not expecting another episodic porn story. But I liked it anyway.
Poet is about a poet who wanders around and is sexually dominated by everyone he meets, male or female, in graphic detail. There's something tying together the sex scenes that vaguely resembles a plot but it's pretty easy to ignore. Don't bother reading this if you're looking for a good story. If you're out for a nice variety-pack sampling of ladyporn - an appetizer platter of smut, if you will - it doesn't get better than this. Name one other place where you can find male sugar baby on poet, high-school yakuza daughter on poet, yakuza son on high-school yakuza daughter, host on high-school yakuza daughter, host on poet for the viewing pleasure of the client, host on poet for the pleasure of the host, and also talent boss on talent scout and you deserve to win a roast-beef dinner.
Naming another example of this flimsy excuse for a plot, though, won't get you anything.

This is a Arthouse Doujinshi.

Utterly gorgeous, but almost completely random plot.
Worth reading because this is an example of what the best mangaka in Japan are capable off, but will rarely publish, because it's extremely "arthouse", niche, and will probably be disliked by mainstream readers.

I'm torn on this one. I liked it, but ... It really didn't seem to get anywhere. The story could have been great, it had a good base and could have taken many different directions but in the end it just seemed to end up nowhere. The protagonist never really learned anything. In fact, he just seemed to have gone through everything in the story to end up as the same person he was in the first chapter. Very little development.
good read!

I'm one of those people who likes these kind of mangas XD...aside from the really good drawings and the bishes, there's a pretty good theme in this story.
I guess the only down side for me would be ai-chan is abit too gullible to my likings XD

rendou aida isn't the only one left feeling empty and disappointed -- coming off "sakende yaruze" this manga left me feeling that way too. i didn't ever really empathize with rendou, though i felt a bit sorry for him as he stumbled from one bad luck experience to another. most of the other characters i disliked outright. but then i am generally not one for tragicomedy; give me one or the other, they rarely mix well. also, more hetero sex than mansex, which i really don't care for in my yaoi, and what mansex there was wasn't hot. not one of takaguchi's finest -- the art is the best thing about it IMO, there are some really stunning panels.

a surprisingly nice read as it follows the life of Ai-chan (LOL) our "hero" here, and the ups-and-downs of having dazzling good looks as his. See his adventures with infatuated men & women alike, and how he is oft left feeling empty and disappointed at the end of it all...
wld have given a higher rating if they had only fleshed out more in the ending! its much too open ended for my liking but still... a recommended read for all
