Great series!

I've been avoiding reading this manga for a long time, mainly because I just found the pairing of a girl taller than the boy to be too weird. But after reading the first chapter, I was surprised how little it bothered me. On the other hand, this weird pairing is actually really funny. This is one of the few shoujo mangas I've read where the characters are actually very realistic and likable. Koizumi is very good-hearted, and while she isn't very smart, she isn't too stupid or annoying. She doesn't fall in love at first sight either and her love for Otani never wavers. Despite how short Otani is, he really is pretty manly and I like how he is usually very loud and talkative and straightforward, but he is shy about his feelings. Only some points off for Otani for the recently scanlated chapters where he would rather trust that busty woman over Koizumi. :\ The author really does a good job developing their relationship, as I could really feel like the characters grew from friendship, to a sort of platonic love, into true love.

The artwork is really pretty. The author can really capture emotions in a realistic way while having many LOL moments. Lovely Complex definitely makes it into one of my top favorite shoujo mangas! Highly recommended!

Otani x Risa forever!!!!

At first, when I started the manga, I was totally against Otani - saying stuff like, "He's a meanie!!", "He's short!!!" or maybe "Risa go for Haruka!!!" aloud (it totally annoyed my brother) - the reason being his height. I know, I know, its a mean thing to do. I'm as tall as Risa and so I was really pro her finding someone better. But as the manga progressed, I eventually forgot about the height difference, forgot all about Otani's flaws, and forgot how Risa deserved someone better. I was actually cheering her on!!! I couldn't help but go, "Go Risa!!"!!!
I have one thing to say - Yay for breaking stereotypes!!! I could've never imagined myself accepting this dysfunctional relationship. But, now I'm happy to state that "Duh, Love just happens. You can't help it."
I also found another thing very intriguing - the mangaka never once forced Otani upon the readers. She didn't even state Otani to be Risa's type or vice-versa. Their relationship (its so adorable!!! I awwwwww-ed so many times!! And the way Otani acts with her is SOOOO cute...awwwww), the way it grew upon me, I hardly took notice. And of course, the way their friend's never once objected to this strange couple and in fact pushed them to be together was definitely nice.
And how can I forget the laughsconfused I'm totally pro funny anime/manga which is another reason why I was so taken by this manga.
I can't wait for more chapters to come!!
And Otani is super cute!!! I love him!! Even if he's short!!

I didn't read this manga for a long time after coming to know about it cuz I thought that it was another of those boyish female and feminely male stories with another of those cliched plots... you know. BUT IT IS TOTALLY NOT THAT!!!! I watched the live action movie and the storyline just got me hooked!! So I immediately went and read the manga!!! The manga is awesome! Really humourous, and there's alot of character development! And also I like how the romance is not the average romance story! The characters all rawk!!! Go Otani and Risa!!

This is, honestly, one of the best manga i have ever read. It's hones and true to life, not some sort of girlish fantasy that can only ever live in ones head. It's relateable and EXTREMELY funny!

I'm not one who usually likes to humorous manga simply because I like romance better. But let me tell you, I fell in love with this series before it really even dove into the romance simply because the humor was witty and not over the top! Then the relationship between Koizumi and Ootani came in a I was hitched without a stitch smile One of the best mangas of its run and one of my top three favorite manga of all time. READ IT!

I'll admit it now before continuing with my review of the manga - LoveCom does use plenty of plot devices commonly found in more generic shoujo manga (such as getting sick, jealousy, etc.). However, the characters themselves are so unique that the manga doesn't feel at all like anything I've read before. Most of all, the situations and their outcomes actually feel realistic despite the exaggerated personalities of the characters. Conflicts and their resolutions aren't the illogical jealousies or any other strange situations that are badly resolved in any other manga. It was also great to see that the characters didn't fall in love and get together right away; their relationship developed over time as feelings slowly became clear to the individuals themselves.

Most of all, though, I love the fact that Koizumi and Ootani just aren't your typical shoujo manga protagonists. It's easy to identify with Koizumi when she faces a challenging situation and can't always overcome it easily. Ootani is also a far cry from the perfect princes of romances - in fact, he's one of the most flawed love interests I've ever read about (he isn't particularly handsome, intelligent, nice, humble... oh, and he's short, of course). It's the realistic dynamic of their relationship that makes the sweet moments genuinely heartwarming, the conflicts heartbreaking, and any other interaction just plain funny. It really is an excellent manga.

Good manga. Fun to read. It's a bit fulll of shoujo cliches and some overused plot devices, but does them in a nice way that they don't see unoriginal. All of the characters are very interesting and lovable. It's a very nice look into a high school romance and that's really all I take it for. It never really delves deep into Risa and Otani's relationship or their future together. They got through issues, but even their tests for their relationship aren't much. There are some manga you read like Kare Kano, that make see and feel that these two characters love each other and will be together and you see their future. There are others like Lovely Complex and Koukou Debut for another that kind of end it at high school. That is not to say that makes LovCom not a good manga. It's very enjoyable.
