Honest review from an offical translation reader
by Viki.kdrama

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
The series is a fresher take on relationships and love. Although it does get some frustrating cliché misunderstandings that do drag out in the end but overall it is admissible. Now for a proper review

Plot: The story takes place in what looks like late 1700's to early 1800's in an European ambiance. The plot is straightforward at first look but give it some time. The dialogs are well thought and every single word plays a role in unraveling the truth towards the end. Their is a twist I would not like to spoil. The story subtly hints on it starting the first season. If you are an over analyser based of dialogs and look for plot holes it would definitely be a fun read. The relationship between the characters is written fairly realistic which makes the plot and their little tit-bits very entertaining and relateable. Their romance moves with normal pace but the confessions take too long. Although, I am not complaining because their constant petulant quarreling is quite fun. Sometimes, the jokes fell flat because of the over done art but it improves but we still get some cringeworthy and annoying moments. The plot overall has many layers and you have to read it throughout to truly take it all in. There are some dragged misunderstandings towards the end, but overall it is a solid 8/10 plot.

Ps: The dialogs are too long and tedious but the translation is phenomenal and one can see the effort put in them.

Characters: Now this is where my heart lies. The character design is amazing. Our main character, Dillion, and the male lead, Cedric, are written so well. Their chemistry is out of the world. The way they mesh together is very natural. The anxiety and the fear that is felt by our MC is well delivered (apart from the very end where it gets a bit annoying) and the reasoning for her actions are explained in due time. She is clever and strong with a heart of gold that takes no bulls**t. I re-read some interactions between the MC and ML because they were just that great. Not only our leads but every character is well written and have their own complicated thoughts and personalities. I honestly have no complain.

Art: The art is beautiful and gets better as the series progress. The emotions can almost always delivered through the art. While we have panels that are alluring we do have over-exaggerated comic panels which might not be everyone's cup of tea. In general, the artist paid thought into making the backgrounds and the costumes and their hard work shows. Ofcourse it comes to personal taste but I do say please don't drop the series because of the art.

I really loved the story, especially chapter 99, phew.... That was an intense chapter. I loved how they depicted the characters' pining and desperation. The dialogues were also extremely great. I think the translators did an awesome job. I didn't really like the ending though, it felt a bit rushed and is, IMHO, the only damper on an otherwise amazing work.

a regency romance

I loved this story so much. It's certainly inspired by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, but of course it's not so serious. The reader's enjoyment will be derived of whether the manga's comedy resonates with them, but if it does then one hundred chapters will pass by on a flash.

It made me realise how much I would like to read other mangas about regency romance but unfortunately this is not a tag on this website.

Loved the art but I felt like the story was dragged way too long. I felt like they were talking too much to the point that I had to skip some chapters urgh. If you want a simple live story with no real drama then you would prob like this. They started kissing in the last chapters though, so it’s a slow romance.

Some of the reviews here are baffling, did we even read the same story ?
soulless side characters ? everyone that mattered had enough development is all I'm gonna say, sure this could have been way more in depth and longer, but you know what ? I was too busy enjoying the story to notice any lacking character developments, also reading is about using your imagination, just fill in the gaps yourself.

Anyway, I very much enjoyed the story AND the characters (except the ones I was meant to dislike), the tsundere mother-in-law come BFF was a fun surprise.

As others have said the ending is a bit lacking, I had to drop a point because of it, the author just didn't have the time, talent and/or intelligence to come up with something better than resolving a misunderstanding, it felt a bit rushed and abrupt, also that last minute twist, I kinda don't buy it, what and where is the explanation for it ? it also disrupted the flow.

the ending butchered it

The main leads have great chemistry, and it's a feel-good series with little to no complications. Well, at least that was the case until the unnecessary plot twist happened and arguably ruined almost everything good about this story. I hate how the female lead's personality did a 180; she was acting crazy and irrational towards the end like girl completely forgot the ability to just stop and listen or something istg. As a result, this created a mountain of silly misunderstandings that could have been easily resolved had she let people speak. She also started talking about the male lead like he was some kind of trophy rather than a person, which to me pretty much destroyed whatever chemistry and love they have built up prior to that point. Sure, I enjoyed the journey but the ending was just not it.

Falls a bit apart towards the end, otherwise, pretty good

This was fairly good almost the whole way through. The problems start during the last 10% or so. Suddenly, they just cannot into communicate. Like, at all. And then there's the whole

reincarnation and "always you" schtick
... Just, MEH.

Now, what I did really like, was the stuff with the original female lead. Great stuff. Too bad there wasn't anything more done with it.

Otherwise, I will say that Dillon is funny and a great character. Heck, I'm not even really complaining about Cedric as a male lead. And me not complaining about the male lead is unusual. This is mostly thanks to the writing surrounding their interactions (up to the last 10%) and the fact that he's not just another A4 badboy that the Koreans so seem to love.

Easily a 7/7.5 out of 10. Except, it fell apart somewhat towards the end (And the stuff with the original FL), so I'll give it 6.5. Worth reading though.

Delightful fl, alright romance but very unfulfilling ending and characters

Do NOT read if those things frustrate you: dragging on misunderstanding that could easily be fixed, non-protag characters being soulless, unresolved plot points that aren't regarding the fl, AND:
The male lead obssesses over Dillon to an unhealthy point. Dillon never learn about it, in the whole series. It borders on dangerously obsessed.

I have mixed feelings about it. Dillon, the fl, is very well written and a delight to follow, with realistic reactions and an endearing personality. HOWEVER. She's the only character written well... in the whole series. Including the male lead.Everyone else solely exist as a foil for her, and barely have any personality on things unrelated to her.
While the romance can be sweet, the ml don't really have any traits past his obsession with Dillon, that even other regard as creepy. But that also extend to any other characters, that didn't receive any closure. They barely get development in Dillon unrelated matters
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Especially Katharina. We never get to learn why she was so unstable in her past life, or never saw her finally get her revenge. She's a very tragic character, and her whole arc just end up being disappointing.
We also have no idea why Dillon thought her past life was a book?
What happened to Whitewood EXACTLY???? Cedric got rid of him without killing him out of jealousy (bro..?) but we don't know what he did exactly? It's never brought up again?
We don't get a conclusion for Cecilia and Maynard as well, sadly. Talking about Cecilia, she's frustratingly underdevelopped. She obviously has much more depth, hating her whole family, but we only see a very shallow aspect of what could be. Ugh.

In brief: It's not that bad if you can put up with the misunderstanding gallore, but very unfulfilling in the last season.

I like the leads, the simplicity of the storyline, and the fact that there aren't any side stories aka fillers. I don't mind the misunderstandings that many seem to get irate over. They aren't incessantly long and complicated where a conversation can't fix it. The character developments are also welcomed. But because the storyline focuses on FL's obsession over the original storyline, there isn't room for much else to occur.

great read

the first few chapters didn't intrigue me with their forced comedic bicker, but it improved along the way. Their interactions are cute and funny afterwards. I like the pace of their burn. I also like how they treat each other as friends during their early stage of marriage before the slow realization of their feelings. The romance is good. The FL is a strong and reasonable character, the ML is not bad as well.

Although they usually communicate, you might get a bit frustrated at the last season's miscommunication but it's nothing to dislike. I've read worse.

I'm also amazed at the drop of hints of the FIRST plot twist around the last season--it surely was something I could not think of, but looking back at it in the early seasons, it made sense.

I also thought that would be the end of it, but the last plot twist near the end surprised me. I loved how different this work is from the others.
