I read this manga at least 20 times, and watched the anime even more. Basically each time when I get into mini depressions I watch the anime and it makes me feel a lot better, this manga is certainly one of the best.
Thank gawd she finished in 5 volumes

Paradise Kiss is a good series. The mangaka is talented, the story is interesting and full of human flaws. The best thing? The mangaka actually ended the story before it became ridiculous. Five volumes with a great story intact.
A thousand times better than Nana.

It's been two years since I read this manga and I still like it. I agree with a lot of people saying that the ending is pretty realistic in that the two weren't exactly meant for each other. Though I don't really agree that Hiroyuki was meant for Yukari either.. But meh, maybe it's the best for the manga since it would be difficult to just introduce a new character that's supposedly Yukari's soulmate.. :/ But I think that it's rather unhealthy for the relationship between Yukari and Hiroyuki if Yukari still have feelings for George. It would be best if Yukari would mention that she's crying at the Broadway because of gratitude towards George and Paradise Kiss for putting her in the right path.. The last panel just striked me that she might still love George very much.. Who knows, the last few lines could be interpreted in a lot of ways..
Also modelling is a wonderful dream, any dream is, but I know a few models who still have to go to school and still place education first.. And it's not even an art school. Not much into fashion either. It's a technical school.. O_O'' So it's all about auto and plumbing.. >.>''
Maybe it's only in Canada.. O_O'' Cause modeling in parkas don't rack in big money.. XD Joking..
Anyways, all I want to say it that it IS possible to be going to school and model at the same time.. Just need really good time management skills so anybody thinking of modeling, you DON'T have to quit school or let it slide.

i didn't like it at first because it was too fast paced, but i'm glad i didn't give up on it. in my opinion, the plot is very unique compared to the other mangas out there. although i enjoyed the manga, i was disappointed that things didn't go the way i wanted, but the ending did seem to work out better the way it did.
Relieved at the ending

Wow, I'm glad I went back to finish this series... I gave up reading it after finding out- halfway through volume 2- that Yukari and George wouldn't end up with each other. (Sigh. I shouldn't have read spoilers.) But I picked this series up again after reading the good reviews about it, and after finishing the rest of the volumes, the ending just seemed right. I was actually relieved to see Yukari end up with Hiro, because he seemed like the person Yukari was seeking for. And he's more reliable. George seemed like the person to open up Yukari's insight on something besides cramping in a room studying, and with the rest of the team, teach Yukari to do what she liked and help her mature. I think Yukari matured the most through her relationship with George, and if they had ended up together, it would have been a futile effort and awkward. (Plus, it wouldn't fit Yazawa Ai's "style"!) Great story and the art was well drawn.
I am curious, though, what happened to George and Kaori in the end...

I love this, it's bitter sweet but a beautiful story and coming from an art school I can totally relate to Yazawa's misfit cast -- which is why I love her works so much. If you're a fan of Nana I would definitely read this.
One of the best mangas I have ever read.

This manga was extremely good. There was none of the usual shoujo, and the ending was realistic..

And though I would've liked Yukari and George to end up together, i found that I wasn't completely against the ending. Yukari and George had too much of a destructive relationship to make it a realistic choice for the long run (even if I loved them together ><;).
Overall, great manga, as expected of Ai Yazawa.Very realistic

I remember buying this comic when I was a junior in high school. I bought volume one and then within two days I bought all 5 volumes. The artwork was a little different at the time and took some getting used to at first. As far as the story goes it's about a high school girl who is over her head in school work and meets a group of people that show her the world of high fashion and the modeling business. These people teach her alot about herself and what she really wants out of life. Keep in mind that this is a josei and has some mature scenes. And if you like anime that is very honest to the manga this is one of them.

It is entirely possible that the person you fall in love with the first time is "the one," but what are the chances of that? In most cases, people aren't so lucky. The series is not realistic just because Yukari didn't end up with her dream guy - it was realistic because they decided to break it off when things weren't working out. I admit that when I first read this series as a middle schooler, I was also disappointed with the ending. Why didn't Yukari leave with George? Upon second reading, I now realize how wrong that would be...for the both of them. Their ideals simply didn't match - they were not right for each other. Their relationship was exciting, but it wasn't meant to last.
In most manga, couples don't stay together for the majority of the series only to break it off in the last volume. Otherwise, there would be no point. However, something important did come as a result of Yukari and George's relationship together. In the beginning of "ParaKiss," Yukari was a close-minded girl who lived her life according to social expectations. She did not know what she wanted to do with her life and merely focused on pleasing her mother. All of this changed after meeting George~ she was able to realize her dreams.

I read this manga a long time ago but decided to make a review just now (since I just re-read it).
This is indeed the manga that introduced me to Ai Yazawa's mangas, and I'm really thankful for that.
Even though her art style is "different", I really like it. As for the plot, I think it was excellent. I hated the sad ending and every time I read it I can't help but cry, but I still have to admit I love the story as a whole (yes, even the ending..I agree with gigglemepiink, the ending made it what it is).
I also think that the characters were well developed and they are not our typical characters, they're all really complex and they give this "realistic" feeling.
I totally recommend this manga to everyone.
