Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was the only anime that made me pissed. Not pissed at the characters and wanting then to win, but pissed at how Gainax could make a shit anime like this. I know the action was top-notch, but everything else was shit. They try to use scientific laws and mix it in with their own "spiral energy" laws, but it all becomes jumbled up. And when they know that they messed up, that's when they make the characters get into another fight and hope that the action will erase your memory of them taking the laws of science and raping them hard without lubricant. The last episode shows exactly what I mean:

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Combining just two galaxies can create the same amount of power that started the Big Bang?

WHAT?

And then when the Anti-Spiral hit Simon and Co. with the Big Bang like energy, why didn't they disintegrate instantly? Because this anime hates trying to make sense, that's why.

Sorry if it seems like I'm ranting, but I just finished watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and it made me so pissed off. Luckily, I found this thread. smile

Not that it matters much, but you really shouldn't be too concerned with physics when it comes to anime. Heck, I still don't know how gundam pilots manage to avoid vomiting from all the rigid bipedal motion.

I really don't like Ah! My Goddess! either the manga or anime...

For one thing the manga starts off looking like utter crap, then gradually improves over the years. While this isn't really a big deal, it just feels inconsistant. My real gripe is Bellandy. She is just... well... there. She's the most perfect, ideal, Yamato Nadeshiko who loves Keiichi unconditionally and never shows a shred of doubt or jelousy, because she JUST SO PERFECT. Yet they've been together 35 Volumes and I'm wlling to bet that they haven't even gotten past first base yet, because their love is so PURE it makes me want to bash my head through my screen.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. Going for a recennt one, Maken-Ki. Sterotypical crap really. Nothing origional. Touch be Adachi also pissed me off. I mean, how hard is it to tell someone you don't like and never have in a romantic sense them when they propose marriage. no

I know, I know, but these people did it WAY WORSE then other anime or manga. It was to the point that it made you wonder if they ignored them on purpose. That's why I hate it so much.

I guess? It's just a little weird to me that you're taking it so seriously. Gurren Lagann is the type of show that you're supposed to enjoy by throwing reason out the window in the first place, it was never trying to be realistic. It's really not much worse than any other mecha, or for that manner any Dragon Ball-esque shounen with absurd superpowers.

Bah, but what do I know anyway laugh

For worst anime, it's a tie between Samurai Deeper Kyo and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Samurai Deeper Kyo is the only anime that actually made me go to sleep while watching it. It was like a visual sleeping pill. I only watched about 7 episodes, hoping that SOMETHING would happen, but nope, nothing.

Let me just put my two cents here along with the rest of you people...

I hate most Shoujo manga (and anime for that matter) in general, MOST ESPECIALLY THE SMUT ONES... UGH! They just scream, "CLICHE!" right in the kisser... Boy meets girl, and all that crap that happens just too often... I have, however, read some titles that I have tolerated (but never really liked)... Fruits Basket was the only ever shoujo I bothered to read, watch, and like... Other than that, I found to be pure rubbish... Like Peach Girl, Chobits, HanaKimi, HanaDan, Fushigi Yuugi, and a whole lot more...

I, however, like BL (shounen-ai/yaoi, yes, I'm a fanbiggrin) but I also hate stereotypical stories, senseless plots with nothing but smut, no character development nor any depth to them, and most of all CLICHE stories... It's nice that there is a genre like this because there are gay people all over the world and they have stories too (even those who aren't gay fall for the same sex too ya' know)... There is such a thing as boy meets boy (or girl meets girl)...

What I hate about this genre of manga and anime is how the uke (the bottom) is so whiny or too girly, UGH! Okane ga Nai has this kind of character... ALL of MINAMI Haruka's works, all bloody rubbish...

I also just hate it when it's harem, UGH! Are there no more fish in the sea that every fishermen (or women) try to haul at one friggin' pond?! And ecchi, too, it's like every page and scene are full of big boobs and these horny guys that can't score... Tenjou Tenge, Air Gear, they're all about BOOBS, UGH!

Manga's saving grace in the mainstream world could only be violence, blood and gore... Just like Elfen Lied, Hunter X Hunter (the anime was nice), School Days (like I said, violence), etc...

The issue about Naruto, One Piece, Death Note, and Bleach being crappy, It's half true actually, for the sole reason of it being TOO DAMN LONG... Naruto most especially, because of it's world wide popularity, it's become a cash cow for the copyright holders... That's part of the reason they made it SO LONG... Do they think people never get bored EVENTUALLY?!

Well, there's my two cents, I guess biggrin

No, I understand what you mean. Sorry if I sounded like an crazed Sci-Fi fanboy. laugh

I wasn't taking it seriously when I first started watching it. Hell, that's the only reason why I watched it until the end. It's just that when they TRIED TO BE serious, and try to mesh rules together is when I got pissed. It wasn't that mindless all-action, no plot show that made it fun to watch when you wanna feel like shutting your brain down for a while. It tried to add logic to it as it went on, and you could tell from the first few episodes that logic shouldn't even look in its' direction. That's why I was pissed after it finished.

Manga:
Ral and Grad - it is the only thing I have ever read where the ending not only sucks but it makes the whole story suck as well

Grappler Baki or w/e - haven't actually read it but the art is so bad it makes me wanna puke

Anime:
Tokyo Babylon - i love the manga but the anime is incredibly shitty

Karin - too cute and the characters where annoying

X the movie - took everything good about the manga and dumped it in favor of senseless junk not to mention killing one of my all time fav characters in like the first 5 min
dead

I found the ending quite nice and logical, i loved the manga and the art, one of my fav.

the manga i hate there's quite a bit:
_samurai girl (watched 5 min of the first episode)
_the flowers of evil
_shounen ai or yaoi
_everything stupidly depressive (when the hero or heroine always have bad thing that happen and there's not a single good thing in her life)
_gurren lagan
_bleach (watched until ep ~60 when orihime get kidnapped while everyone is looking even tough 2 ep earlyer kurosaki was almost teleporting during his fight, i mean why didn't he just jump and took her before she entered the door)

there's some hentai that made me really depressed too but i don't remember the name.

there's more but i don't remenber it.

Happy World would top the list for me. The art was crappy and most of the characters were hateful. I mean hitting a girl... c'mon.

Definitely Busou Renkin.
That was actually a huge let-down. I liked Ruroni Kenshin fine, and expected something even better than RK, but the author actually regressed, in my opinion.

And for manga, I'm not sure about the anime, but I didn't like the FLCL manga. Maybe I should try it again and read it more carefully or something, but I just didn't get it. And I got a headache. Twice.

Wow, it seems like SDK is disliked here.
I thought it was a pretty okay anime, even if it was a bit too long and unbelievable.

hmm can't really boil it down to just one thing.....but none of it worked for me, aside from the animation, the characters the story, the fights......it seemed like it was trying to be sophisticated but just came off as ridiculous to me, i dont know i just didn't like anything about it

not to mention all that spiral power shit was just stupid, didn't find the show funny either, just corny

Don't know if this is true, but I heard that everybody at Gainax had just finished a REAL depressing series, so they made that series to cheer everybody up.

And that's the weirdest reason I've ever heard for an anime to exist.

Because Top wo Nerae! 2 was totally the most depressing anime ever -_-;;. No, really, whoever said that was probably just projecting Evangelion onto it or something.

But Gurren Lagann is all sparkles and glitter, basically. I can't say I agree with either of your sentiments that it was actually trying to be serious, but there are certainly plenty of flaws that make it overrated. Regardless, I think it's pretty far from the worst anime or manga out there.

Stop stalking me.

biggrin Just kidding.

But what do you think makes it overrated? I haven't seen or heard people comment about it that much for it to become that popular. It was airing on Sci-Fi of all places...

I know that it isn't the worst anime ever, But it's the worst that I've watched so far. And hopefully this will be the worst that I will have ever seen.
