Fillers in the anime arent bad, really BUT the art of the anime started to go to hell at some point, the fights are full of artifacts and u cant see details once zoro's head was a circle with grass as hair O_o all u could see was that ... their faces change a lot sometimes robin's an old hag TOTAly ugly... that doesnt really happends with the manga... the art GROWS better with time instead of going worse like happends with the anime.manga doesnt get budget cuts... maybe thats why..

I honestly don't know. The manga, overall, is better, but I really prefer fight scenes and joke lines in the anime. Watching the action is just much easier on the eyes, plus I love One Piece's voice actors - they fit their characters so well. I also like the fact that it takes far longer to get through everything watching the anime. I'd just watch/read both, but I'd start with the anime since starting out with the manga makes the anime seem way less appealing (storytelling- and art-wise). Once you get the voice actors into your head, the manga is so much more fun to read!

I started with the Anime or now do both. They are both very good and like that one guy said the fillers aren't bad, a lot better than the Naruto and Bleach fillers from a while back.

Though it is beginning to drag at some points,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Impel Down Arc, was really good in the manga, but began to drag in the anime. Possibly a filler ep or two in it.

It's your choice, but I would recommend both, as they are both awesome and its always the best watching action scenes animated.

i started watching one piece years ago when it was on toonami then when the doush.... owners on cartoon network decided to end toonami i stopped watching for a couple of years then one day i found a video streaming website and started watching again i got caught up to the current episodes which were at that time right before cp9 took robin and could not wait a week to see the next one so i started reading the manga to see what happened next now i only read the manga because watching the episodes take too much time, also one piece was my first ever manga (not including dbz and pokemon which i read one manga of each when i was young) and now i read 90+ manga... maybe i should never have started one piece i would have had so much more time.
