I read shonen for light senseless entertainment. I don't read shoujo at all. Shonen and shoujo are both completly ( in my eyes ) fantasy, one based on fighting and sports, the other of relationships.
I don't care for fighting or sports very much so it doens't annoy me to see them be completly overdrawn and unreal. But good Shonen has more to do with humour than with action anyway. ( one piece, bleach , early dragon ball and naruto, the four most popular shonen i can think of, are all just as much comedy as action )
Relationships are just too important to turn into trash entertainment. For romance i prefer slice of life or seinen much more. My big hope for some good romance stuff is josei, but I've only just started looking into that.

Asking this question is like asking whether Hana Kimi(shoujo) and Ichigo 100%(Shounen), which one is better. Both these manga are romantic comedy. You are going to have people who say Hana Kimi is better. And People who say Ichigo is better. And people who read both Shoujo and Shounen saying whether those two are both good or both suck at the same time.

I prefer to read seinen and josei, but comparing the two, my lists shows that I seem to favor shoujo, which is true. Mainly due to the romance. I always try to find a hint of romance in all my manga regardless of genre...shoujo ensures that I will most likely find what I'm looking for. Even if some plots are not worth the read. .___.

I have to thank you again. It's been a while since I've had this much d**k on my computer. :'3
I'm not sure, probably I read more shounen than shoujo, but my favorite demographics is seinen.

I read mostly shoujo but some of my favorite series are from other demographics. I don't think one demographic is better than the other but I'm more willing to read really cliche shoujo than really cliche shounen.
