A series has to be particularly bad for me to drop, or (in the case of Wolf's Rain and Code Geass) unable to match the anime they spawn from. I hate not finishing what I start, hence my continuation with Naruto and Bleach and also why I persisted in reading Inuyasha until the end.

I can honestly say I LOVE VK though, one of my favourite series. Not too much in the way of making you think but a good plot and enough twists to keep my attention. My only criticism is that the art makes it all very confusing since in black and white it can be hard to tell the minor vampire characters apart at first but I soon learnt. The monthly releases means I often have to re-read the previous chapter to refresh my memory as well which might put people off but when it's finished I will likely re-read it all again anyway.

VK is one of those mangas that I know isn't that good, but I still love anyway. None of the characters are really developed and the plot isn't that well thought-out and yeah, there are a lot of chapters where absolutely nothing happens... and yet- the vampires, the pretty art, the angst, all of it draws me in.
This was actually the first manga I really got into. The first chapters were painful they were so corny and full of cliches (oh look, we are the guardians of the night school, who must trip over ourselves trying to stop squealing girls from getting at the bishies), but it improved with time. Now it seems to be at a winding-down point... and I hope it does end soon, because it's losing steam.
There's no real comparison between Vampire Knight and really good series, of course. Some mangakas just know how to tell a story well. Just the fact that a series is labeled shojo doesn't mean it has to have a weak plot or characters. There are shojo series like C-blossom or After School Nightmare or Coelacanth (all of which I particularly like) which target a more mature audience with better plots and content. On the other hand, I like Vampire Knight better than a lot of the sparkly shojo series out there in a similar vein.
Anyway, I will probably end up finishing this manga, cause in spite of all the negative things I can say about it, I still enjoy reading the releases.

Eh, I liked the art to start with, but I just don't like love triangles, especially when I don't care for the women/man that is the center of things, and unfortunately that is what this series is like.

Sometimes I read a short manga or oneshot for the art alone. Ten volumes is long, long past that area.

I have until vol.3 in my shelf, but I've only read until volume 2. The art is great, but really...I can only take so much vampire soap opera. And from what I've heard from people it now seems like the author's just dragging her feet trying to make this series last a lot longer than it should.

Merupuri, Torawari, and Wanted worked because as cheesy as they were, Hino Matsuri had the good sense to keep them short and fast-paced. Something actually happened in every chapter, and it grabbed your attention. VK is should've been kept at 7 volumes at most.

I'm waiting to see how long it takes for Kain (Wild) to win Ruka's heart away from Kaname. It's gonna happen eventually.

I enjoyed reading VK in the beginning up to the recent chapters but eh, it started to become a bit boring.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
I wish Yuki wasn't Kaname's sister. He was the one I wanted Yuki to end up with and apparently it's gonna be Emo (aka Zero) so I dropped it.

Other than that it has a good plot but eventually I'll continue to pick it up when I run out of things to read. Ther art is beautiful but it's hard to distinguish some of the Night Class guys because two of them look pretty similar. confused

In response to XxKumagoroXx spoiler (above):
Spoiler (highlight to view)
You apparently missed something. Kaname is not the son of Yuuki's parents. Kaname even says to Zero at one point that things would've been so much easier if he was Yuuki's actual blood brother, rather than the way things are.

Ugh... this serie is so mch overrated....

The author really knows how to grab the readers attention using as much fanservice as she can.... I gave up when Kaname made Zero bite him(she had to please also the Zename fans, of course)... That was too much...

and seriously... Yuki is so stipid I want to slap her with both hands!! A "butterfly" flying from a guy to another.... (Zero at the beginning, then Kaname... and I'm sure she will go back to Zero before the end of the serie).

There's no character development at all... Kaname still obsessed with Yuuki as the beginning.... Yuki still like "Kaname, my saviour, so gentle, so nice" as the beginnin... if she changed a little it's because she turned back into a vampire, not because of character development... Zero still with his hatred towards the vampires and himself

The night class is totally useless and undeveloped... seriously, what's their role in the story?? they're there just to have more bishes to make the girls drool over...

I started reading it because both art and story were looking really good. gradually it lost its charm and beauty so I did what I always do with such stories... I put it in On hold list. roll eyes however, after it finally reaches to its end, I will read the last chapter to see what happened to Zero and Kaname. bigrazz what can I do, I love those bishounen so much and I can't ignore the final outcome of their adventures! biggrin

I couldn't get past the third volume...
And now there's incest?!?!!!? (okay, a friend just told me this so I don't know if it's really true.)
What?
I really think that's creepy.

It's not actual incest.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Kaname is the ancestor of Yuki risen from his eternal slumber by Yuki's uncle and raised by Yuki's parents as a replacement to their lost son.

I think people flame this series too much just for having bishies in (though I admit it was the art that drew me in). I like the angst and the whole vampire thing (I'm wierd like that) but I actually prefer the plot now it's moved away from the whole love triangle. I prefered the fact Yuki was indecisive though because that's better than the whole 'I'm so hooked on one perfect guy other's just don't register in my radar and I will now spend the entire series fawning over this guy in a sickening manner'. Just because there's not a lot of action doesn't mean nothing is happening. Maybe I like to read into thing too much but I'm one to analyse every phrase and frame in a manga and take my time absorbing it. The best thing about this is that it has enough to keep me interested but not so much to require actual serious concentration to decipher.

I dropped it. Like a sack of potatoes in a potato field.

I'm not sure if that phrase even makes sense, use your analytic abilities to find out.

I read this with an air of amused disbelief. With a predictable plot, sterotypical characters and little or no characterisation Ifind it hard to take seriously. When a manga has to rely heavily on its artwork to entice readers to continue then it has got serious problems. The author started of with a idea that had been done several times before not only in manga but other forms of media and, well, never tried to be origional, and that is the problem. A lack of caring from the author/mangaka whatever to do better.

However I will probobly drop it soon as its getting far too pathetic.
