Haha... well, I didn't think it was predictable... but maybe a little cliche.

I kept wondering if there was going to be some horrible horrible twist in there. Haha... but I guess the mangaka decided not to give us heart attacks at the end. ^_^

LOL totally agree with you. The manga kept adding complications one after the other and the fact that Suzuka got pregnant was the biggest twist out there (never saw it coming) but I guess it was the catalyst that made Suzuka and Yamato realize what is most important to them. The mangaka could have taken this story in a completely different direction. Could have easily killed off one of the protagonists or give them an injury that would end there athletic career and many other options. So for me the ending was just one of the many endings for suzuka. The manga was one of the more realistic ones I have read with a female lead that has a very difficult personality.

Even though it may be predictible, it still suits me more than most manga I've read.

I agree. It was nice and all, but I felt like it just kind of killed all the build-up. I wasn't dissappointed, necessarily, I just wasn't satisfied.

Can you name any other shonen manga where the main characters have to throw away their dreams and face the reality of raising a child with no support? I can't maybe you know some. Yes, this kind of theme is somewhat common in shojou but it was the first time I'd seen it in a shonen.

For me, that was the main point of the manga: two young people sorting out thier priorities and finally realizing what was really important to them.

Competing against others and striving to achieve ambitious goals is a really great dream, but when it comes right down to it there are far more important things in life than trying to jump a centimeter higher than you did last week or struggling to run a split second faster than somebody else.

For Suzuka, we found out very early in the series that a lot of her obsession with excelling at the high jump was a result of the enormous pressure she was under from friends, teachers, etc.: she was just trying to live up to everybody's expectations. When she found out she was pregnant, that finally led her to accept that her child and the man she loved were more important to her than all the goals other people had imposed on her.

I thought Arima was a great bad example in the series. He thought he was really hot stuff because he was a fast sprinter, but when you looked at how he acted towards other people he turned out to be pretty worthless as a human being: just another stupid bully with an overinflated ego desperate for attention. Yamato and Suzuka, on the other hand, realized that people were more important than track records.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A couple of other comments while I'm here:

1. For all you people claiming the ending was predictable: where were you a few months ago when the chapters were coming out one by one? roll eyes As I remember it, Suzuka's pregnancy caught just about everybody off guard, and nobody really expected the rest of the series to go the way it did.

2. And for those of you who think having a baby is lame: maybe you should take a long hard look in the mirror and think about where you came from! biggrin

The ending was a bit of a shocker and as ending goes this is one of the better ones because it brings everything to some sort of closer with out leaving too much hang in the air.

That being said I think that the series was forced to come to an end much quicker then the original story line anticipated. The story had progressed so far that a whole college\ Olympic tryouts arc could have been created but for some unknown reason it just ended the way it did. Chances are I'm wrong but I've always had a feeling that the Mangaka was laying the ground work for a continuing story that just never happened.

*sigh* this thread will never die...

If you want you could try Crossover it's by the same Manga-ka. I also think Ichigo 100% would be a good read if you like endings that don't follow the standard.

Ic... thanks alot then^^
Doesnt follow the standard huh... but isnt it good rather than the usual "follow the standard* endings?

*edit*
Plus, if the thread doesnt die, doesnt it mean that this manga is great since people is still discussing about it? ;)
