The first manga I ever touched was 666 Satan. Before opening that up, I had no idea what manga even was.

From looking at the update history for it, and considering that I stopped at around chapter 70 due to lack of releases.... It would appear I first started reading manga around June of 2007. Before that I only watched anime.

It's been years since I first started but I remember reading Cardcaptor Sakura first due to a friend but my first bought one is either Fruit's Basket, Chobits or Battle Royale lol...

Full Metal Alchemist! My friend had been talking about it and she loaned me the first book - from there I was hooked. It is still one of the best I've read.

I somehow stumbled into OneManga back in 2009 and came across Love Hina. That was my first. Still a classic and as tropey as they come.

Hmmm...I think it was Naruto & Cardcaptor Sakura.

But I definitely remember that it was Wolf's Rain anime that began it all and got me to know of them.

I was 13yo and that was already 14 years ago so...2006?...heh and now I've been officially watching anime & reading manga for more than half of my life ;p

Pokemon Graphic Novel also know as Pokemon: The Electric Tale of Pikachu it was the late 90's so it was comic book issues translated by Viz I think. But the first manga book I got that enter me into the manga world was Tokyo Pop Cardcaptor Sakura first edition were it looked like a small notebook/or address book very cute. I was the type that kid was into reading manga while everyone else was reading the first Harry Potters book when it out (no shade to the Potter series... still have not read it though😐 ). Next was Ranma ½, Love Hina, Kodocha, Marmalade Boy and many more.

I think my first manga was either Clannad or Rosario+Vampire. This was probably back in 2010, or somewhere around that time. I'd already started watching anime by then, but I'm more of a reader than a watcher. So once I found out anime was almost always based on these books, I dove right in.

My first manga was Cherry Juice, which looking back was godawful but hey I was only like 8 or 9.

i think the first one was ranma 1/2 or oh my goddess! in my school library. Before that i'd never heard of manga or knew what anime was...

I'm pretty sure first real manga was Hana Yori Dango - I'd been binging shoujo anime and was starting to run out of popular ones, and a friend suggested I try reading manga to fill the void. OneManga was the first site that showed up in a google search, and from there I knew enough to navigate to the shoujo area. I thiiiiink I just picked Hana Yori Dango at random since it looked interesting from the cover/summary, and I consumed it in basically one sitting (as was my habit).

While I ultimately enjoyed it, if not enough to re-read, Hana Yori Dango's real contribution was that it led to me picking up Hana Kimi next (since it was one above it on the alphabetized list of manga on the website), which to this day is probably my favorite manga of all time and what really got me into manga in general.

i had been into anime for a couple of months and i watched gakuen alice afterwards i read the manga.

Who knows what was my first was but Dragon Ball, Ghost in the Shell and the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga were among the first. I had been reading comics and watching anime before that though. Properly published manga only started to happen in the 2nd half of the 90s (France is a slight exception here) so it´s kinda hard to find older readers who can give more dated answeres. Unlike with anime where we had Robotech (1985), Starblazers (1979), Speed Racer (1967) and so on airing on daytime tv. And obviously Transformers (1984). Even some Shoujo anime like The Rose of Versailles managed to reach markets like Germany in the mids 90s.

Stuff like that, the many adaptations of European (children's) novels and the grizzly OVAs/films of the 80s to mid-90s that were traded on tapes and ran during graveyard shift blocks in the night primed me. There are also some live-action martial arts and samurai manga adaptations that were making their rounds in the VHS scene. Lone Wolf and Cub or Crying Freeman come to mind. Hello Mr. Tarantino. You had to live with what you got back then... Look at me now.

Can it be considered weird that I read Elfen Lied to get more out of the romance plot after watching the anime?

Let's just say it was not what I thought and it was a bit more graphic than I expected in more ways than one.

Still actually a really good tragedy romance if you ignore all the sexual stuff... And the violence... And pointless fantasy technical stuff.
Yeah... It's not very good.
