Iam new to mangaupdates and i have one problem, I noticed that whenever i enter the manga page i get spoiled by the covers of the manga because they are usually the most recent volume of the manga
so i suggest to change them to the first volume cover so people who don't read these manga can catch
up with it and then they will not get spoiled. if you need help with changing them i could help ?

If I may be curious, what series exactly have this problem?

if i want to mention all series it will take some time so i will better not do it

i mean it doesn't make sense to put the latest volume cover in the manga page
you can then know if the character is alive because the character will be in the cover
or if the character is dead just because the character was not in the cover
or when the cover shows new characters or the place that take place in that volume ?

That happens with films, and games, and regular books already. How is this any different?

Is that cover a real spoiler? I'm really intrigued because there's a rule in MangaUpdates that, textually, says: "Please do not use sexually explicit or overly graphic images. Also, please do not put up covers which spoil the series!"

Most manga covers are changed to the latest one to make people following those series know that there's an update (a new released volume, in this case). But that rule should make updaters refrain themselves from uploading a new cover that reveals too much.

As long as I have been using MangaUpdates I have never been spoiled by a cover because ot the rule the site has, and also because most manga covers don't auto-spoil themselves (that would affect sales). They just will show you something related to the progress of the story -that's something readers expect-, there may be a new character, a new object, among other things, however, I have never seen a key scene or something that will make me feel spoiled or ruin my reading experience.

if people want to know that the series is updated they can check "latest releases"
or "Status in Country of Origin"
covers are used for attraction not for spoiling
it can ruin the experience for readers if the cover shows too much info about what happened

I am curios now. How is The Promised Neverland´s vol.9 cover a spoiler? It´s as bland as group shots get. Or the second most recent one, where 2 characters jump towards the camera. Even the somewhat spoiler-ish covers for Berserk, Vol. 13 comes to mind, give away little in the end. These were chosen by the artists to look attractive without giving the story way in a book shop after all. Any editor worth their salt would axe a problematic cover for that reason too, so hentai covers are about the one thing an updater has too look out on MU while updating in 99,8% of cases.

Putting up the most recent cover has a reason. It shows that the Status in Country of Origin box is filled in correctly, if the cover and number line up (closely enough).
Edit: I knew it, there was no argument on the other end with the specified example.

i wont spoil anything for you but you will know eventually know when you read the manga
lets say if you want to buy/read a manga you wont look at the latest cover of that manga because you
still has't read any of the previous volumes and the latest cover of the manga reveals the content of the
volume
you should't know what's happening in the latest volume
manga artists usually make the new volume covers to be appealing for people who had kept up with the manga not for people who will start to read the manga

You're saying that the covers for the newer volumes spoil everything, yet you don't want to "spoil" what it is that the covers are spoiling?

What hole did you crawl out of? It's probably Reddit going by the need to make a new paragraph after every line when you haven't even completed a sentence.

Just for the record, I don't know what you guys are talking about. Whenever I go to the MU page for a series, the picture at the head of it is static. It always stays the same. Or perhaps I'm just not good at noticing stuff.

most people just don't care if they get spoiled in this website i was just suggesting that they need to make a setting to hide covers just like there is an option to hide the categories anyways

Well i think that categories of the manga are what sometimes spoil a series...
But I won't complain cause I sometimes search for a new manga to read with that specific category.
And I think new readers are sometimes more attracted to the latest covers of the manga cause the artist overtime develops their artstyle..

No, OP is right as far as I'm concerned...........I'm not saying I entirely support the whole "spoilers" point here (as in this is going to happen on just each and every title), or that it's necessarily anything to get, you know, too worked up about......but yeah, I've always felt that the main manga pages here and in comparable settings (pages where you have to pass through to get to the/all the chapters be they on scan group sites, readers sites, wherever) should be locked in on either the first volume cover or whatever earliest image you want to put there.

And yeah, it is specifically because there's a chance that later volume covers might spoil earlier events in the manga.........think romances and pairings and you might see where I'm coming from (that's certainly where I've encountered just this, seeing a later volume cover and saying "aw shoot, why'd I have to see that, now I freaking know exactly where this stupid story is going >_< )
