should the site update demographics to just Kodomo, Josei, Seinen, Shoujo and Shounen and put the other "Demographics" into genres? I feel like it makes the labeling on the site a bit messy but at the same time I'm used to it since I've been here so long.

Like for example Shounen Ai and Yaoi should just go under BL, shotacon and lolicon is subject matter or character design and shota is used everywhere, a lot of main shoujo series have BL in them so shounen-ai and shoujo are considered both "demographics" on here when theyre basically sisters in content and publishing. Bara should get its own genre label by now since theres so much of it now. I could go on but I think you guys get it.

Wait, you want the site to combine shounen-ai and yaoi under a single category simply entitled "Gay", remove the shotacon and lolicon categories because "reasons" (Possibly remove the newly created "Gay" category too because of the same "reasons" ), BUT make an exception for "bara" and give it it's own category?

If anything was to start following this, shouldn't we ALSO remove the yuri and shoujo-ai categories and put them under the "Gay" category too, since the entire point of those genres is for girls to do gay things as well? Also, how about not giving "bara" it's own category and redirect it to hentai because, unlike shotacon and lolicon, I have yet to see a bara manga that WASN'T porn.OR, if you're trying to play the game of "Well, we have to basis off of the content what people read, and who's making it," why not just remove the sex-themed categories all together and just have two categories: "Children" and "Mature"? After all, over 60% of Japanese women don't even READ shoujo series anymore, so why even have different categories for each sex since one is read by a MINORITY of the population? That's also on top of that fact that women don't make series solely aimed at women. Just look at Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, Fullmetal Alchemist, Blood Sucker, almost everything by CLAMP, Wolfsmund, Sekirei, and Terra e.... Then there's also how the Sailor Moon anime and Pretty Cure were enjoyed by more guys than girls (Much to the dismay of the studios when they couldn't sell the toys).

EDIT: BUT, with all that being said, I compromise in agreeing to having "bara" listed as a category...just as long as you add "ara" as well (For those of us who get a stiffy to Christmas cakes and MILFs, and on the account that I can pull up "ara" series that are NOT porn).

Are you trolling? The whole Japanese women dont read shojo anymore? Your link doesn't even validate the argument either. Of course women who read comics are nerds and have issues dating wtf. Shojo and josei literally just mean women's and girl's in Japanese. I'm saying that BL is a josei manga GENRE. Bara is a GENRE of seinen. These are not demographics. Why are you typing so aggressively like this isnt a thing that's wrong with the site. If girls dont read shojo anymore why is it still being marketed and drawn that's like saying girls in the USA dont like barbies or Tamagotchis anymore.

Also your argument is broken because Japan doesnt even use the term shonen ai unless you're talking about shotacon. I dont see why it's so offensive to organize the site so its cultural accurate. The way Americans describe these things is way different than the country they even come from.

Shotacon and lolicon are not DEMOGRAPHICS. They're content. In the editing section it says they are demographics and they aren't.

Who said I was saying there should be a "gay" category. Most of this manga stuff has nothing to with actual gay people besides geikomi and certain yuri stuff. Its all lonely geek fanservice. I feel like using BL towards real LGBT people is offensive arent you trans like in your name? Wouldn't you know like over half of BL is just detached romance fiction stuff for Japanese women who cant even get a boyfriend.

Like you have to be joking with your comment it literally detracts from everything I'm trying to say.

Yes, it does. Did you not pay attention to the numbers listed?

I'm saying that BL is a josei manga GENRE.

So, Kaname, Blue Drop ~Our Angel~, and Change H should have ALL been published in Josei magazines (When, none of them were)?

Quote from Bunny-chan
Bara is a GENRE of seinen.

I don't know, Otoko Matsuri, That Summer's Most Relaxing Sea, and Flesh and Beard, and that one Metal Gear doujin by Yawaraka Onikudan, all seem pretty gay to me. Even the Tokyo-based newspaper Japan Today details that "bara" falls under a demographic known as "gei komi (gay comics)".
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
But, then again, the article does state that "shounen-ai" and "yaoi" have "fallen out of fashion in Japan" (Cannot find another source on this so take it with a grain of salt, especially since I cannot find a similar article for yuri and shoujo-ai, unless one of the more experienced Moon-rune readers can pull up an actually source detailing what Nips actually do think about gay series and their terminology), but it fails to provide what have arise as the "replacements". It's states that "yaoi" and "shounen-ai" and "bara" ALL fall under "BL", but then goes on to detail how they are NOT the same. "Yaoi" is short for "no climax, no fall, no meaning" (Essentially, trash), while Westerners interpret it to mean something more intimate; "shounen-ai" simple means "BL" (Nothing else needs to be said there) but has come to mean something of a "soft-gay"; and "bara" has come to mean macho men doing gay things.

So far, the biggest problem that I have seen with categorizing series is that people don't tag things correctly, which is an issue that other users on the site do agree with. But, very few take the time (Much more have the autism required) to fix that. We have the tools already, why aren't you using them? Also, and this is a point that I deliberately left out of the previous part, do you plan on undertaking the challenge to make sure that the CORRECT genre is tagged on the DOZENS OF THOUSANDS of yaoi and shounen-ai series should the genres tags be changed?

Quote from Bunny-chan
The way Americans describe these things is way different than the country they even come from.

Yes, and no one has made that more apparent than you for not knowing that "bara" is a gay tag.

Quote from Bunny-chan
Who said I was saying there should be a "gay" category.

That's what "shounen-ai", "yaoi", and "bara" is: guys doing gay things.

Quote from Bunny-chan

It's still gay. If you're trying to conflate "shounen-ai" with "bromance", those are two COMPLETELY different things.

HOW DOES MY SEX, AND HOW I CHOOSE TO IDENTIFY, PLAY INTO THIS CONVERSATION? AND, WHO HONESTLY GIVES A DAMN OVER WHAT PEOPLE FIND TO BE OFFENSIVE?

Quote from Bunny-chan
Wouldn't you know like over half of BL is just detached romance fiction stuff for Japanese women who cant even get a boyfriend.

So, we should STOP categorizing gay series as being gay because it depicts a FICTIONAL gay romance?
