I would love to have Hajime no Ippo licensed. Even tho I believe that onlines scans can be superiour than what I buy on the American marker.

I would buy 90+ volumes.

@peroxid no, inside that article is the nicer things, in the blog rant they went on they took the tone of "im not even selling it to you, why should you get to read it" takeing on this realy bitchy tone of im not selling it to foreigners so they shouldn't read it.

actually the less popular ones get FAR less than the established ones because they have less bargaining chips.

So you rather they just make nothing at all and forced to get a real job?

i honestly hope that manga stops being licensed in english period. id rather get it from a fan and donate money than buy a english copy. American distributors made to many mistakes over to long a period of time, and still cant fix half of the mistakes.

Who are you buying from? The quality of a lot my english stuff is excellent (the Tatsumi collections, Gogo Monster, Red Snow)

there are web comic artists who make a living off of their work. imagine if a mangaka made a web comic, and actually supported it, taking not only donations but also making money off their own merch, instead of getting money form merch through a publisher, who at the best of times, only give mangakas 10% of net profit. them putting the manga volumes out themselves, through their websites. again, a 10% profit before would becomes closer to 30-40% and higher if they handle all the shipping themselves.

there are alternatives. and as for american quality... i have gotten volumes that were already brown, you know what i mean if you ever bought manga, i have had ink that stuck to two pages, in the past manga was split up into chapters and sold, costing 30$ a volume in many cases, and to top it off, the cencership that i cant stand, the unpredictability if they will follow through with the mangas release, the over all cost of a manga is usually 3-4 times what it costs to get it in japan, but the quality is lower, and than there are the translators who just dont give a damn or are incompetent, with an online scanlation, you get a v2 for free, you get a free v2 for the first 3 volumes of negima that had to be re done because of the translators incompetence.

i cant support manga in america for those reasons, and saying support them for the mangaka, here, i would donate 1$ for every volume i download and really like, and if it was possible i would lump sum 50$ to ever other mangaka that i read, but didn't like so much. and so you know, mangaka make about 30-40 cents at BEST off a volume of manga.

and i have applied what i said to a different industry, i sent a few game companies 30$ and letters explaining that i pirated x game and liked it enough to pay for it, though they never took the money... i dont know why.

None. Licensed manga are harder to obtain, and they are not translated as quickly. You cannot depend on the licensers to translate and release the manga the day after it is realsed: they usually release volumes. Also, their translation quality is worse, sometimes, with the sfx not being translated, or the font not being as appealing as those the scanlators sometimes use, or something else which I may not remeber; I just rember it irking me bigrazz.

No.

My thoughts exactly. I'd rather not wait three years for licensed publishers to catch up to where I am today.

Besides any number of the BL manga I'm reading (why must the genre be so huge?) I have a few titles I'd like to see licensed.

First are the Magical Madoka manga spin offs. All three, Innocent Malice, Magical Madoka, and Ryofuko-chan, would be awesome to hold in my hands (and to be looked at on my shelves). Plus, it would be fun reading it in manga form after I've watched the anime.

AR∀GO should be licensed as well. The manga-ka's other work, Darren Shan was licensed (long after the book series ended, I should add) so I think his other, original work should be licensed as well. Plus, I want more of his awesome art in my hands.

A license for Kuragehime would also be awesome. The josei available in the States is very limited and releasing something like this would be a great way to expand the market. I'm not sure how well the anime did but the manga has a lot of factors that would appeal to a wide audience. Plus, I love the manga-ka's artwork and would give anything to have a translated book in my hands.

That's all for now. There's a ton of series I like but these are the first that come to mind.

If Vinland Saga were ever liscenced, I'm running to the nearest store to get my copy.. Same goes for Immortal Regis, and Saint Young Men. Too bad the later would be heavily criticized by certain groups.. ;~;
Benjamin's stuff would be awesome as well. I also agree with Arago being picked up.

I don't really care about bad translations, poor quality and the like. I want to support this now dying industry and keep stuff heading towards USA shores, or where ever you are. Plus, I love owning things in my own hands other than just something you look at on a screen.

While I'd like decent translations and decent quality, I completely agree with you. My shelves will be lonely without some new blood added to them and I'd much rather own a book than always read off a screen (it's easier to brag about if you actually own stuff, too).

Yeah me too!!! ^_^ I'm hoping Phantagraphics (think that's what it's called) will publish more of her stuff.

I wish there was more than just viz and tokyopop doing it for the English-speaking market though.

Vertical, Dark Horse, Yen, Kodansha USA, etc. do not exist suddenly?

And lol@ anyone saying licensed manga should never happen. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Other people like it so let them be. And no, English volumes aren't 3-4 times more expensive then Japanese volumes. They're around 2-4$ more expensive then the Jap ones on average, but it depends from book to book and then there's overseas shipping to deal with. And what's with everyone thinking you'll have to wait to read a series after it's been licensed? Many licensed series are still being scanlated. Some are not, but oh well.

Pardon the previous paragraph, but I'm pretty sure ITT we post series we want licensed, not complain about licensing companies.

Other titles I totally crave for:
any classic shoujo
Kuragehime
Oyasumi Punpun
My Girl
Flat
