I've started reading Girls of the Wild's and I like it a great deal. Normaly I'm not too fond of harem series, but this one is special. First of all it doesn't concentrate on the girls tormenting the MC (though Queen causes him a lot of grief at the beginning), instead they keep showing that they care. Second, it doesn't have any ecchi and last but not least the protagonist is strong (in his own way). Rather then physical strength, he has mental strength (all the hardships that he went through in his life toughen him up). Seeing how the story is progressing, he will most likely become physically strong (and good in martial arts) in the future.

So I'm kind of looking for something similar and hopefully complete.

The first thing that came to my mind was History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. It has some of the elements I mentioned. The girl seems to really care about the MC, though I don't remember there being much in terms of romance (that girl treats the MC more like a friend rather than anything else). I kind of lost interest after 6 volumes, but I might give it another shot.

Please no Hentai\Shounen Ai\Shoujo Ai stuff.

I guess it isn't exactly easy to find many similar series.
Green Boy which I've been reading recently seemed somewhat similar (though it had different kind of drama).
