I'm looking for a new set of manga to read with these criteria in mind:
- Historical much preferred. No pre-WWII Japanese please, I'm not a big fan of that. WII-themed or any other modern wars much favoured. If not, then more subtle history-related themes are all right too.
- As little romance as possible. I'd prefer no romance at all, but that can be tough to find.
- Not ongoing. And it doesn't matter if it's an old series from the 80s or something.
Something along the line of Adolf or Monster would be fantastic.
Thank you!

i dont get you. you want historical manga, but not pre ww2, that's not really 'historical' is it? um...you can try these.
Bradherley no Basha - very dark. about girls being sent off to prison during the wars.
Colored - set in edo period about slavery.
Fugurumakan Raihouki - light reading.
Kakumeika no Gogo - the first two is something about revolution in russia. the whole thing is just crazy.
you can even try Freesia, there's war in the background. but alternate reality.
oh yeah, you can put Zipang in your wish list. its still ongoing but it is pretty good ww2 manga.

If you don't mind short story compilations, Horobishi Kemonotachi no Umi and Who Fighter with Heart of Darkness contain remarkable WWII-themed pieces.

Let me confirm few things...
1) you want historical manga set after 1945 but maybe before 2000ish? Doesn't matter the setting, whether in Japan or other countries?
2) You don't want anything that set before 1945, even if it's not set in Japan? Example: something like Green Blood. It's set in wild west era, in America. Or like Bushin Gikyoku, it's set in 1924 but in Beijing, and about a Japanese boy who slipped back in that era.
Then, maybe try these:
Rainbow: set after WWII
Omoide Emanon: I think it's set in 1990ish
Sanctuary: about yakuza in 1990ish
Part 2 of Jojo's series Battle Tendency, I think set after WWII
Horobishi Kemonotachi no Umi: collection of short stories, some of it has wars going on, set after WWII
Is something like Fullmetal Alchemist works? It's alternate universe, there's war too, but it gives off historical vibe. If so, I'll try to think similar manga to it.

Thanks for everyone's rec, and I'm sorry about the confusion.
I just don't want pre-WWII Japanese ones, history from other countries are ok. The upper limit of the 'history' range doesn't matter much to me, so I'd say 2000s-ish is ok.
I've read FMA, and while it's not very close to what I'm looking for, I did enjoy the series greatly, so I guess it won't be too bad.

Paladin looks all right, I'll check that out. Thanks.
I've heard of Historie, but not Cesare. Either way I don't like reading ongoing series, so I think I'm gonna let those two pass for now.
