Death Note One-Shot

Poll
What did you think about the one-shot?
It didn't do justice to the series at all. ... It sucked.
It was... okay.
It was great! I loved seeing the characters again~
I expected something else...

What did you think about it? o.O To me, it was basically unnecessary. Though the ending could point to another future one-shot or continueation of the series.

In other words, I expected something completely else. xD

I thought it was really good. The point wasn't to bring further closure to the series, but to emphasize the personalities of some characters (namely Light, L, and Near). It also showed just how mentally messed up Light was.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
When Near forced the new Kira to realize that he was, in fact, a murderer, he reacted like any normal human without any sociopathic issues would have.

For a little 40-page thing, it was very well done. Additionally, if they really wanted to a spinoff or future one shot could be created relating to the Shinigami world's changes, but I doubt that would happen. The story is pretty nicely wrapped up, and although I could potentially see one or two more one shots, I think it's pretty much over.

I'd be hard, but I wouldn't mind seeing a continuation. I think the oneshot worked the assisted suicide angle about as much as it could be so I really don't know what else they could do with Death Note. About the only thing I could think of is having some high schooler killing bullies or somebody taking up Kira's job and try creating a utopia again. Of course, it'd be a repeat of the original so it wouldn't be that interesting.

It's a shame Light couldn't kept his mouth shut at the end. He could have used his father's death as the reason Mikami thought he was Kira. After all, he was the one holding the death note when his father died so the ownership was his.

Yeah, I totally agree. The oneshot did however bring another intriguing moral question. Another nice topic to discuss with my friends, that's for sure.

The oneshot wasn't the best, but I do believe they did what they could. I was just stupid to think they'd use it to bring more closure to the series. (I'm still wondering about Misa. XD)

She did? then who's that girl in the final page (of the original manga) with the cloak? I was assuming that's her.

I have no idea. I thought she was Misa too, but apparantly she's just some random girl? o.O Here's proof that she died.

Um, isn't that Sayu? Light's sister? I think she looks alike, but then, I may be mistaken.

As for the one-shot, I felt it was unnecessary. As if the mangaka tried to revive the series or his popularity.

It was a pretty decent one shot. Didn't really see how they could further conclude this series in the first place. So, I wasn't really entering with any particular expectations. But seriously, is that all they could say about Misa? She was last seen in a hotel room right before Light's encounter with Near, and then all of a sudden we're given an "Oh yea, she's dead," in the special "How to Read" chapter. I mean, seriously? They couldn't even say anything about in this one shot? I mean, a simple, "It's a shame Misa couldn't bear to live without Light," or even "Misa's mysterious death was a real shock," would have been more than satisfying. But absolutely no mention at all. I mean, how did she really die? Being that she was the second Kira, you would think there would be some insight on what happened with her. I mean, she was a pretty important character. A lot of things couldn't have happened if she wasn't in the story. That may have been the one thing that I would have liked to see in this one-shot.

The One-Shot is okay, not amazing or great enough. What'd you expect? It's a one shot.

But, still...I like the storytelling and of course the art.

And you got a nice colour poster bonus.

I feel the same way, ha ha. I really liked Light although I don't agree with the fact that by imposing his authority he would have restricted the liberty of the other people.

Even so, he was my favorite character. He had the charisma, character, intelligence and pride. But when the ending occurred, and by that I mean that pathetic death , that made me feel so disappointed because it was just pure humiliation brought to a great character. It would had been 1000 times better if Light just died of a death that matched his dignity.

Eh well, and that wannabe L (Near) won. He just lacked something to make him likable. And he seemed to have cheated his way "to the top".
