Maybe you just noticed last week's Valentine's Day's release flood? Plus two yaoi scanlating group is having their anniversary - more releases every day. And as candyloop said, most yaoi series are one-volume thing so the scanlators always looking fore more projects.
The only thing bothers me that someone purposefully voting 1 for every yaoi/shounen-ai release, i noticed it going in the last two weeks. I mean why bother? You have filtering... confused

That mostly happens because there are very few long yaoi series and if you add doujinshi into this, it does seems that there is a lot of it. Just consider that average yaoi story will run around 1-4 volumes (with some exceptions) while average shoujo or shounen runs for much more.

Now that you mention it, you are right. Alot of Yaoi are just oneshots or 1 to 4 volumes at most. Only once awhile that you would find series which span more than 10 volumes. While if you look at Shoujo or Shounen, it's very common to find 10 volumes and up. With some sports manga, 15 volumes and up are very common.

@oluap. I do read Yaoi. I have been reading since before grade 1. My mom loved to read so up till I was 12 years old, she had books and mangas for my brothers and I to read since we were little. Eventually I read Yaoi. If I never read online manga. I would probably someday read gay books since I always try to read other types of books to see if I can find more favourites. I read so much books but I only have a few favourite authors due to my extreme pickiness with the storyline.

Some people are surprised when they hear of Yaoi or Yaoi animes. Just like gay novels and books. Just because you never read it or see it in the library's section you frequent, that doesn't mean those books dont' exist.

@nasztia - whoever that person is, he/she doesn't understand the meaning of "if you don't like it, ignore it". What's the poin of obssessing over it. You are just going to give yourself a headache. There are alot of mangas I think people really must have poor taste to read. I cringe whenever I see those titles but everyone has different taste. That's all there is to it.

Well, to tell you the truth I really don't know about it, and it seems that I am the only one that ignores them completely. I didn't even filter them; I don't know how to do it anyway. It is true what they say, "If you don't like it, don't read it". The same goes to everything, from this to mature themes, like for example berserk, as Ares said before me. If you don't like the genre, don't even read the title, no one is forcing you to do it.

Personally, they discuss me anyway. But that is just me.

and once again the so much yaoi topic. There have been about 5 discussions exactly like this one since i joined the forums back in 1942.

As mentioned by many, don't like -> don't read -> don't care. I do the same for shoujo, lolicon and some others

hey bully_jesus read what I say before you post... I have no problem with it and I actually read a couple of oneshots just to see how it was -kinda like shoujo stuff........ with a different twist and more drama-

so you don't have to scroll back I basically ask if this is a new fashion thingy going on! or if it has been like this always! or if due to coincidences I just noticed now!!

you see I haven't been reading manga for too long neither do I know people from Japan... and since I just joined how could I know that since 1942 there has been 5 threads about this!

Most forums I have ever been on, have a "Why do people read Yaoi/Yuri" at one time or another. I'm really tired of those thread now. I dont' reply to them anymore since most of those threads have alot of people who just post "I don't like Yaoi and I'll never read it" just to let people know that they hate Yaoi. I think it's pointless to reply to those threads since it will lead to nowhere. Just lead to more reply of "I don't like Yaoi and I'll never read it". If it were me, I'll just block those thread or lead them to a Yaoi forum so they can ask in there.

No offense to oluap. You do seem to ask about Yaoi, not just make a topic so that people can start saying "I don't like Yaoi and I'll never read it". So I replied back. Explaining why I read Yaoi is similar to explaining why I like to read or why I love soup. There's no logical explanation.

Edit: Yes you are right. Alot of Yaoi have a shoujo-feel to it. Maybe because most Yaoi mangakas are female. There are Yaoi though have so much egos and angst in it. I feel like I'm reading Sport Shounen. I always try to read both from female and male mangakas for any types of mangas. I think it's interesting to see both way of writing.

If you check out a couple of Yaoi due to curiosity. Only check out the ones which are Shounen-ai. It tends to scarred non-Yaoi reader or beginner Yaoi reader forever if they unfortunately read a medium to heavy Yaoi.

Hi,
didn't mean to bash you or anything. I also know that you didn't say anything against yaoi. I just meant that there already have been threads with people wondering where all the yaoi popped up from.

Edit: just so you know that other people have been struck by the same question

There have been slashnuts as long as there have been girl geeks. They seem to go hand in hand. Yaoi/shounen-ai is basically just an extention of it. As long as you're willing to graze in shoujo manga pastures you're going to encounter a couple yaoi works. Some of them aren't all that bad to be completely honest.

And I can tell you right now there isn't NEARLY as much (non-hentai) yuri in manga as there is yaoi in japan or scanlations. I think that stinks.

there might be enough yuri in hentai to even the score.

So if it comes down to this: Many Girls/women like storys about love between men, and many men/boys enjoy pictures about women having sex with women .................... maybe yaoi is better than its reputation.

This subject seems to come up a lot x.x;;
yaoi seems to be everywhere, but that's only because almost all of them never go over a volume (most are just doujins..)

well as I said before I read a couple of yaoi mangas and as recommended now I read a shounen-ai manga... >_<

umm... I cannot offer much after reading either but one thing is for sure!

1. If you have never read either try giving it a try before judging

2. if you have any distrust or "problem" with the whole gender thing go with shounen-ai... 'cause at least to me yaoi is a bit over the fence -sorry I couldn't find a better way to express myself- now with shounen-ai I can feel a bit more of like ummm dunno kinda like struggle between characters -just read it don't judge-

3. all of this being said I don't think I will read this genre often unless someone highly recommends a "" "" shounen-ai "" "" !! since I am not too much into romance -although exceptions are made- and I think right now I will find something like Slam Dunk & Hajime no Ippo style you know sports strive for competition with plenty ecchi -to erase this particular scene in one of the yaoi- and what I love the most a good laugh -ohh shounen-ai can be funny forgot that one-

4. puff finally I never thought when I made this thread a few days ago it would lead me to giving it a try thanks to all the ones who understood my question and bothered explaining their views to me specially to the two very long posts.

PS: my next step into the manga world will probably lead me into making a new topic after reading this certain manga Shamo -recommended by a friend- and my next step in my life is never letting this certain friend come near anyone little sister -or mom or girlfriend- and not pissing him of is a must!! ^_^ WTF is the only thing that comes into my mind when I read it...

when you hear someone say "the world is so gay"
It meant in both ways.

I go with 'Maybe' because I read more yaoi/shounen-ai lately, so I noticed more about this genre releases than others.
