I just got majorly ticked off and have to vent it somehow so bare with me..

Is it just me, or does it bother others too that a release by some scanlator-team is posted and no download link to the release itself is given.. And what about the fact that the said scanlator team doesn't even have a webpage or a forum to look for the release or info where to get it? HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO GET IT THEN?

So, if you are going to post a release, be atleast kind enough to point where the said release is located. Maybe put it up to the net yourself. There are a bunch of fileservers free to use.. for free

"Team XXX just released Title1 vX cX,Title2 vX cX,Title3 vX cX etc.."

"Cool, i've been looking for those, where can i get them?"

"Dunno, my grandmother's cousin's relative who is the neighbour of the person that heard talk about it while she was visiting the hairdresser the other day.."

" o_0 That's just fuckin' dandy dude! How do you reckon that helps me?"

mad dead

If your own inability to lurk around and notice things angers you, it’s nobody’s fault but your own, really.

lol thats pic is just perfect. really there needs to be a disclaimer or something on the site to say to say it is NOT a downloading site. most people who join up assume along with the release info a downloading link is available as well

That's just it.. Lurking around is sometimes so damn tiresome

20-30 sites plus P2P and IRC.. on a daily basis..

Anyways, this day hasn't been the best one for me..

candylope was that a pun or just irony? If you want to get your releases you should "Lurk". (anyone catch my drift?). ;)

Erm, but I agree, actually. I know that sometimes just giving the info (without link) that it's out is... just plain crappy. I know when there are raws out for them and when they come out, but hey, if you're going to tell me that you subbed it... um, don't make me search many places to find this. I'll just wait until some other scanlation group puts up a link to it. bigrazz

It seems like you're being overly critical of optik. Most scanlating groups have the goal of providing good translated manga out to people... it's a great service... but when you start becoming elitist and ignoring those asking for help by telling them that they're stupid for not searching enough...

...man. That just sucks for the person merely asking for more info. Whatever happened to being nice? Giving a link out for people probably isn't going to be the end of the world for you.

But then again, I do agree with the scanlating groups in this point: it's a free service... beggars can't be choosers.

Hmm... so I guess my point: if you're a scanlating group, try to make the experience for others as painless as possible. Even if you do have to put up with a lot of crap. >_<;;

Wow, so much swearing, and the people are mostly just annoyed and not angry really... bigrazz Perhaps that a good thing though. I suppose you also have to find the right people even if you know about IRC because not everyone probably loves and knows about Lurk. (Well, I think most love Lurk but there are some stuff on their servers that I know some people would be angry about...)

The original poster makes me wonder if that was his first post (his post count is 8 as I write this). He didn't mention IRC as one of the resources to find the stuff, which is were the stuff is in the end for many groups that can't support the hosting of files with the bandwidth-eating. I suppose if I didn't know what Lurk was, I'd still be asking and being annoying, but fortunately I do know what Lurk is so I don't have to ask (not to be part of the have and have nots). ^^; I'm not sure if where to find Lurk should be spelled out on a webpage because if a professional person finds it they might skin the group alive for what's on the servers. eek I don't know if I'm just being overcautious.

Anyhow, someone did hint at it already if the person gets the drift. It's clear in shorter replies.

and i know what you mean by the groups telling you theyve scanlated something and not put up a dl link for them, but i dont get frustrated over that, i mainly get my dls from 4shared.com

It seems like you're being overly critical of optik.

I have to admit some of the comments are less than welcoming but scanslating and the online manga community is not always kind. But Optik blew up (this is even worse if this his first post because now he's left a nice, bad impression with us) instead of more like "I can't find [group's name] and they have no forum or website. Can someone help?" He might've gotten a bit better response, although it's still asking "where can I download manga" in the end. bigrazz

Also, I recall that some manga scanslation groups will put in their channel topic that they will ban a person about asking when a release of a series is coming out, or push back the release a day or a week (or even push it back in proportion to the number of people that bug them).

I don't know if it is them be elitist. Slow and Dirty might not want to bother with a channel and...admittedly what that group is doing isn't considered totally ethical. Maybe they don't want to directly link themselves to trouble.

Being nice for the first time isn't really much. But when it's the nth time the person asks for help it's... roll -> roll eyes -> dead If you've been on IRC and helped people that says "oh, where are the downloads? Plz help me" and that they don't even bother working out the stuff themselves it's just.... sad -> cry

No offence, but they put up with a lot of crap before the release even goes to the public... You are asking some people at their wit's end to go to more trouble for some people that are ungrateful... dead Then again, since you've said this, maybe you haven't felt the pain of being a scanslator or you spoke without thinking your words through enough.

Scanslating use to be uglier (I don't think I even saw the ugliest part of it). Maybe everything was on IRC then. And scanslating is a hobby in the end, and look at what this topic has shown: it's not just hte scanslating, it's dealing with the people that ask "where can I find the manga you scanslated". I hear fansubbing is much more painful than scanslating too.

why back in my days the manga community was just that... a community. now these days everyone skips over the community part and goes straight for HTTP DDL and bots. back in the day you actually had to speak to ppl with fservs to get manga. building relationships. nowadays you complain about having to go through that process. and complain to groups just because other groups put up http ddl and bittorrent. and complain to groups just because other groups put up http ddl and bittorrent. manga community has dumbed down the process way too much.
these groups simply don't provide direct download links because they don't have the resources or simply dont wanna go through the extra hassle. if they can edit, translate, proof, scan the raws, quality check, is a bit TOO much to ask that you put some effort and go find the release urself on irc or wherever it may be? no seriously this is just an info site. we simply provide the service stating it's out there somewhere... would you prefer we not even do that and not even post those release or not post download links at all? if it's really that much a problem we can simply remove all the download links. isn't it better to know it's out there somewhere than not at all? and also some groups don't want the companys that liscened said manga to send them cease and decist letters or taken to court or get themselves in trouble with whoever. that's why they do what they do. and also i've never had trouble finding any releases. well might have had to put a bit of extra effort at times but yeah never had to struggle. and nowadays it's hella easy. (refer to first paragraph) tired of hearing you leechers complain. you people don't know how easy you have it.
im just saying... and then some of these leechers are bold enough to say that we NEED them to even have a group. leechers arent needed for jack. i would gladly close out the manga channels from the hordes of leechers if my friends would allow me
>_>
<_<
manga community started out as friends sharing manga with FRIENDS. if you dont want to be befriended then get the hell out. (no homo). and with that stop bitching and locking topic. for those who of you who have put the extra effort and learned to use irc or whatever and don't complain about releases and arent nubs. thanks for being you biggrin

Charlie Brown for life, bitches
im out.
PEACE

(lot of this was directly quoted from a friend who wishes to remain nameless. those who know em will know who i speak of)

Meh, mellow just about summed it up. Nothing more to add except that it's a free post for me~

Actually, Optik, I've had my eye on you for another incident...But no one will know what I'm talking about, since it doesn't involve this forum.

And since I scanlate and fansub, I would say that you get your fair share of complaints from leechers on both sides.
